Vehicle flood damage claim denied

Hi experts and arm chair experts,

Our car's experienced some water damage during the last heavy rain season. The (factory) audio components in the boot have failed. Some water got into the boot and we're thinking it was from driving through flood waters. The equipment suddenly failed whilst driving.

We've lodged a claim with the insurer and they've rejected it stating that it's a vehicular fault, as the water would have somehow gotten in when it shouldn't have. But I'm under the impression that this is flood damage.

Do I have the grounds to take this further, anything to stand on?

Thanks

    You drove through flood waters?

Flood water deep enough to enter the boot of a car?

Why were you driving through water that was deep enough to do that? That's dangerous as well as stupid.

No wonder your claim was rejected.

    Never drive through flood waters.

You actually got out of this cheap. Could have cost you your life and put others in danger during the rescue.

If you admit to driving through flood water, I don't think you are covered by insurance.

  • +9

The flood didnt cause the damage, you driving through flood waters did.

    It's a car not a boat.

I'm glad they don't pay out these claims. Why should my premium reimburse people who drive like morons.

Lol, you're the one who drove through flood water not me pal.

Let me explain this for the slow learners. Paying an insurance premium isn't a broad license to act in a negligent way that causes your loss. This is why insurers won't pay for you punching holes in your own walls, or setting fire to your house, or driving your car off a cliff, or shock horror… driving through flood water.

        So suck eggs I say.

Claimable flood damage could include leaving your car parked and water rose in a flood ie you didn't drive into it. Derp.

@Fredfloresjr: Too much? Maybe I went too far. OP won't know for a while cause he's stuck on the roof of his car with no cell signal.

            • @lunchbox99: Nah. It's like someone is playing five finger fillet and getting angry at the knife company when they stab themselves.

          Lol at “suck eggs”

I'd say the only moron here is you, for driving through flood water…

  • +7

Lol @ actively driving through floodwaters then expecting insurance to pay for it.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Gotta be a troll right?

    • I dunno, I have personally SEEN idiots drive through flood water, they seem to be multiplying.

      • But then posting it online in an almost condescending way? Madness lol.
In saying that the leadership examples we have these days no bloody wonder ;)

OP you're just going to get unhelpful answers unless you provide an MS Paint diagram.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just replacing the audio components than paying an insurance premium?

  • Do you have the footage driving through the flood? Show it to them but make sure to submit it to Scott to be on the highlight of his episode.

So after starting renovation without Strata approval (cause you didn't wanna wait), you now chose to drive through flood waters and expect insurance to cover you??

You Sir are living the LIFE…
