          I had a price match on a portable HDD years ago at OW and the manager was so annoyed at me, was so obvious he didn't want to price match, he did beat it as per their policy. Not sure why they get so upset, it's their main office that sets the policy.

            @eggaz: I tried to PM Philip hue kit they did their best to avoid and declined after. I called OW and did PM successfully and collected from same store and manager was really not in the best mood when she was handing over. 😆

      I still don’t even understand why most people need them. I think they’re awesome if you’re going to use it regularly but I have no idea what to do with them.

        I have a Spark, they're fun to fly and I enjoy taking videos whilst on holidays although it's difficult to get a chance to fly them due to all the regulations that are around.

        Only got it second hand from an old guy that's flown it once and would definitely not spend more than $400 on one unless I was deep into the hobby

      Current drone user here. Yes, people can be foolish and/or thoughtless and use them in a dangerous fashion. But then again, that's true of most things if you think about it. This particular model is more harmless than most, considering the very low weight.

      I've always been a combo guy, the extra batteries and accessories are worth the extra $ if you're wanting to stay in the air for extended periods.

      Highly recommended combo if it is on special. 2 extra batteries and case worth it. I have used it on trip overseas, never had to worry about flying time.

      Combo made sense at release due to the dearth of 3rd party options but aside from the batteries it's all massively overpriced junk based on what's available separately now.

          I think you'll find an extra battery essential. Two was sufficient for my needs. For a casual flyer I'd suggest 1 spare battery and a 3rd party case. If you want to charge remotely then a power bank or usb cable for the car (or cigarette adaptor). If you get more serious then maybe a set of ND filters for smoother footage.

      this is spot on. I had the original mavic pro. Great fun, but a pain to bring out, especially on hikes/travel, not allowed to fly in all national parks, takes 10-15 mins to run through pre-flight procedures etc. Also, it is NOISY, like a flying lawn mower, and will probably ruin the experience of people around you unless you fly way up… which has stronger winds.

      Ended up using it probably less than 15 times in over a few years and sold it off last year.

      It was great fun, and gave me amazing shots and vids when I did take it out though.

I have just emailed them to ask (notwithstanding the fact we are not allowed to visit nat parks because of the pandemic).

        I bought a cheap Chinese Zerotech Dobby, which was on a huge discount at the Aust Geo site, and realised I couldn't use it anywhere around where I lived, and most places I went on holidays. It was a nightmare in terms of reliable connection to my phone, but the experience was enough to show me there was hardly anywhere I could use it.

        There are some local parks where they allow Drones (not Leichardt council BTW https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/inner-west/leich…). That said Some smaller parks don't specifically ban them so you can probably assume it's ok, as long as you follow CASA rules, of course. https://www.waverley.nsw.gov.au/recreation/parks/parks_in_wa…

        So your drone's most likely use is around some local parks, private homes on large properties/regional areas and on holidays.

        if you're in Vic I'd recommend joining the Facebook group "Melbourne Drone Flyers". Lots of good advice there about where you can and can't fly, for example, I'd just been going off the CASA restrictions map, but it turns out there are also council restrictions, National Parks and other special areas that are also restricted.

      No need for license as it's under 2kg, provided that you fly within basic guidelines. Cannot be flown close to airports, or higher than 120m above ground level, or within 30m of people. Cannot be flown at night. Additional restrictions about flying in certain areas - check your local council bylaws about parks and other public land.

      This model is designed to skirt around US restrictions, as UAVs less then 250g can be flown almost anywhere. It's likely that Australia will implement a similar policy at some point, which is why this model has significant appeal.

      Yes, there are a lot of restrictions as if there's not used properly drones can hurt people or cause damage. If you're not willing to educate yourself about the responsibilities of using a drone don't buy one.

      Personally I don't think this is worth it esp as much of TGG value is in their 20% eBay sales, for which you can't use the credit. Better to shoot for a price match

      Prob not the type of drone you want out on the ocean or bay with wind, better off with something with a bit more power and stability given the conditions it'll be exposed to.

      Unlikely, but not impossible. It is a smaller drone and not as suited for a payload or line carrying device.

    Had this drone for more than 3 months now and took it for a couple of casual shots.

    PROS

    • Lightweight, easy to carry and no need for a drone registration (below 250g).
    • Great 2K footage.
    • Good price.
    • Great battery life.

    CONS

    • Due to its weight, it has a high tendency to get blown away by wind. So, make sure you fly it not to high or be careful in flying it over water.
    • Very limited signal strength. I can't tell you how many times my heart skipped a bit when the signal was gone and I can't see anything on my screen. The return to home function is also not that good compare to the other Mavic.
    • No Obstacle avoidance sensor. Again, due to it's weight, it can easily get blown away and unfortunately can hit something really easily if you are not careful.

    Overall it's a great little starter drone. I would go for the fly more combo as the batteries and the case comes in really handy. Hope that helps.

      I bought a $100 cheapie drone to try them out. I got about 5 minutes of fun out of it before I sent it up too high and the wind got hold of it never to be seen again :)
      That convinced me never to spend any serious money on such a high risk toy.

    I had this drone for 1 week and returned it because of the poor signal strength. I live in on the southern end of the Central Coast where there are no tall buildings. I have national park on one side and water on the other and the max range I got was 400 metres. DJI's range specs are total BS!

    A 20% off deal for the Mavic Air 2 and I would be all over it.

      DJI defaults the WiFi channels to CE compliant in Australia. Very easy to increase range by mocking your location to anywhere in the US, open the DJI app and it will ask you to update WLAN settings. Once updated you'll have the FCC channels and an increased range. Done it on my Mavic Air and worked like a charm. Here's the video tutorial. YMMV

      That's weird, I got my Mini on the 15 May 2020 and I have been able to fly it out about 2kms and back and that is in a built-up area in Brisbane. I didn't do anything fancy just flew it.

          I'm south side as well.

          I have flown over Manly marina. I nearly lost it to the water because the wind coming in was so strong.

          If you are looking at areas to fly, the Brisbane council has a website that shows Drone zones. I know near me Carindale Recreation Reserve is a good place to go and they also have a RC plane club there as well.

          It is pretty handy. I have taken it to the Glass House mountains and Moffat beach as well.

          If you don't push it to extremes over water (like I did) it will be fine.
