Bluetooth Streaming Camera for Reverse Parking?

Hi All,

Anyone seen something that does this? We have an old boat and a narrow drive. What I am after is a stick-on camera, to put on the back of the boat, that can stream a signal to my phone that I can use when I am reversing the boat. Won't get a heap of use and doesn't need to be magic quality, cheap and cheerful ideally.

Anyone seen anything like this before? Google seems to point me to expensive, high-quality products in the USA.

  • Some action cameras have a feature that allows you to view them wirelessly through your phone. Unsure of range or lag but that would be specific to which camera you buy.

As an example GoPro uses wifi to connect to your phone and can be attached/removed easily. Other manufacturers also have these options.

  • Using Bluetooth to stream video will be very laggy. Better to find a product that supports RF.

    • RF ?

      • WiFi etc. Google "IP camera".

  • Depends what your budget is I suppose, SuperCheapAuto seem to have a few wired / wireless options.

Wouldn't you want to keep the camera away from immersion in water? In that case, maybe get a cheap wired model (with extension cable) and just quickly put it on a bracket or similar on your trailer only when you need to reverse, even run the cable outside the car for that use.

    • Could do I guess. Maybe I will pop in. I really wanted something that would just stream to the phone to stop me getting in / out a dozen times when reversing.

Yes, thats why I really want something to pull off & stick on only when in use.

  • Or, install a camera in the driveway that you can stream.

Thought of that, but I need to do a 3 point turn and reverse it onto a tight space. Wouldn't work, would need a few fixed cameras.

      • Maybe a drone that follows
        Haha

  • What about an IP Camera like an Arlo https://www.arlo.com/au/products/arlo-ultra/default.aspx or Ring/Xiaomi/Eufy etc?

When you want to use it, just stick it on the boat, use your phone as a hotspot so it works, reverse out and drive off (or reverse in and go into the house…)?

    • I've had Arlo before. The problem is they are massively laggy and need wifi… really need a direct connection from the camera to the phone. I've found a couple of possible on EBAY, I've messaged the seller but not sure if they can correct directly.

  • Plenty of wireless reverse cameras available, but they use a dedicated screen. Perhaps it’s worth installing one in your car anyway, then moving the camera to the boat when you need it. You’d probably need a power source on the boat for it though.

  • One of those ones advertised as wireless spy cameras?

Some dashcams can stream to app on phone. ex. xiaomi 70Mai

  • Maybe think about a baby cam if you looking for the cheap and cheerful option. Not sure if they have battery camera as well as receiver but I am sure there will be…

    • Oricom baby cameras can take 4x AA batteries. The manual says "emergency only" on battery power but sounds like it might suit your purpose?
