I have this monitor but the tn version and am very happy with it. Good pixel density, super thin bezels and that buttery 240Hz.

This one is ips and has slight design changes compared to the old one (joystick controller and minor aesthetics).

I think you should add g-sync compatible to the title, which is not the same as g-sync

    Wow, 240Hz and IPS.

    • Yea it's amazing… But personally, I would rather prefer a 144Hz QHD… 4K 144Hz would be amazing too, but the $$ is the issue :)

      • I think the GPU would be the bigger issue for 4k at 144hz.

        • Yea exactly, but if you buy a 4K 144Hz monitor, you would usually think twice and check whether your GPU can handle it :)

QHD 144Hz seems to be a sweet spot for the Mid-High range graphics cards… Even the 5700XT for example, runs Forza Horzion 4 at Ultra with about 120FPS at stock clocks. The 5700XT isn't even a very powerful card as well, and more high range cards (RTX 2080 ish) should run QHD 144Hz with no problem

          • @Zackeroo: 144hz at 1440p is the sweet spot. I've got the Alienware AW3418DW and it's a great screen, sadly my 1060 can't power it. Looked at the 2070 Super but will wait for the 30xx series.

        • And then the CPU bottle neck haha

        • Remember that on nVidia GPUs you can use DLSS 2.0 on Turing cards meaning you can get what looks like 4k but run at the performance of 1440p. It's super cool tech. Looking forward to DLSS 3.0. DLSS is not perfect, but it seems pretty promising and might lead mass adoption of 4k monitors, causing the prices to come down. One can only hope!

This is targeted towards gamers who play mainly esports (csgo, overwatch, r6 etc). The pixel density at this size also more than makes up for 1080p. Text is clean and I can't complain about the details in games.

        • Would G-sync make it always run 240hz in CSGO? my card is 1080.

          • @Swing: Yes. I'm running a 2070 super and have gsync disabled. You don't really notice the tearing when you are running 500fps and not to mention the decreased input lag which is essential for cs.

            • @gram: Dumb question, how does it run 500fps when it only supports 240hz?

              • +1

@Swing: Not a stupid question. Fps and monitor refresh rate (Hz) are 2 seperate things. The fps is the the number of frames that your graphics card is able to produce. Refresh rate is the amount of frames that the monitor is able to show, meaning 240Hz will show 240 of those frames per second. You can have a higher fps than monitor refresh rate.

                • @gram: Thanks for the answer - it makes sense now. It brings up another question though - with 500fps your graphic card generates, how does the monitor(or the card) determine to show only 240 frames of those?

Sorry, it's a bit technical but it puzzles me.

                  • @Swing: look up frame buffer

                  • @Swing: Because that is the maximum amount of frames it's able to show.

By paying more $$$ for this monitor, you are allowing yourself to see 240fps when compared to a cheap monitor which will only allow you to see 60fps.

If you do end up getting a high refresh rate monitor, make sure to enable the refresh rate in windows settings otherwise it defaults to 60Hz and you'd have paid for nothing.

                    Hope this helps!

  • Basic features, but solid overdrive tuning. No idea why we don't have any TN monitors in this price range in Australia when they sell for cheaper than this Alienware model in the US.

$400-$420 for the Acer XF252Q or HP Omen X 25f, and they'd fly off the shelves.

I have the TN version of this, picked it up for around $400 last year after cashrewards. Great monitor but would definitely be worth the extra for ips. If you're on the fence go for it. You won't regret it.

    • Same. Doesn't make much of a difference though since I'm always fully focused and looking straight on when I play.

Yeah same here, I do quite a bit of video editing though and do miss my old IPS ultrawide for the colours.

An IPS panel, switching at 240hz? Sounds like ghosting to me…

    • -1

People negged my comment, but its factual, in plane switching can only happen so fast…

      • lol you think people care about facts on the internet XD

  • I have a 2070 and 9400f and I've been looking for a good high refresh rate ips monitor around this price for a while, is 1080p really that noticeable compared to 1440p on a screen this size and is this worth buying?

    • Not at all. My one text is crisp and have no complaints. Not to mention the extra frames you'll get from your gpu. 1440p is only for 27 and above imo. 24.5/1080 is the sweetspot for me.
