  • Anyone know if this is any good? I’m always skeptical of third party controllers even if officially licensed

    • +2

I have both this and the Hori one. They are excellent for Smash Bro and basically having an extra controller around for friends. Long cable too.

      • So this works on PC no issues ?

        (sorry just trying to clarify)

        • +1

Windows see it as a game controller. I would assume any game on Windows/PC could use it (whether it suits the game play suits is another matter).

I’ve been able to play Lego Ninjago (free a few weeks ago) on the PC and works quite well.

Nice, had a PowerA one that started to have analog stick drift. I’ve just used a Wii U Pro between my PC, Wii U and Switch since

  • Hey Op do you know if this works with Dolphin Emulator??
I'll love to use this for Zelda WW on the PC.

    • I’m don’t know to be honest. See my another comment above on Windows compatibility. HTH.

    • I don't see why it wouldn't if you configured it properly however unlike the standard GameCube controller this doesn't have analogue triggers which means that for games that use that such as Super Mario Sunshine will either not work properly. Most games don't use this and you could properly get around it with a remap anyway.

      • Speed reading the web and that's the best answer. As a new convert to game emulation (Batocera in my case) most controllers work with but all seem to have there quirks. I'll looking for something that will work with Sunshine, the game my son plays on his phone the most. Already purchased 3 different controllers with no luck.

        • For Sunshine I would recommend an official GameCube controller (either an old one or one of the new ones they made for smash bros) with either official or unofficial controller adapter. I have an unofficial one and not only was it cheaper but it also has a toggle switch for PC so you can use it without needing any other programs. That works well for me and it also works on the switch which is a bonus.

          • @Zarlia: Could you PM detail, please?

          • @Zarlia: i had to google Analogue Trigger and found some funny posts asking the same question but go the answer. So these controllers won't have the option to do "pressure sensitive" controls in the game.

Do you know if this applies just to the joystick or also to the actual A,B,Z,R,L buttons ect..

@camthecow also would be keen to know what you bought please?

Also do you guys know if the Hori Version for $30 bux would be better overall for playing various GC emulator games on PC?

            • @bennib0i: Analogue triggers is just when it can tell how much the trigger is pushed down, usually most useful in racing games. Xbox one and PS4 controllers have it but the GameCube was unique because it clicked down with a hard push at the end. Not many games used it but super Mario Sunshine used it so if it is partially pushed down, you can shoot water while running around and if you fully push it down and click it you would shoot water while standing still so you could aim it.

In terms of the buttons usually not but I believe the PS4 controller does have analog buttons however it isnt really used.

I have a 3rd party GameCube controller adaptor from eBay, for playing on pc 3rd party is better because they have a switch to change them from WiiU/switch mode to pc however the controllers and adapter's are a fair bit more expensive than when I got mine so unless you already have old GameCube controller it's fairly expensive

              • @Zarlia: I'll revisit my 8BitDo SN30+ Pro controller tonight as I think it has Analogue ZL/ZR buttons. See if I can get the config right for Mario Sunshine.

                  @HelpWanted: FOLLOW UP POST.

I got Super Mario Sunshine to work in Dolphin with my 8BitDo SN30+ Pro. I am GUESSING this might work with any controller that has Analogue L1 - L2 buttons.

                  To configure the analogue button correctly, on the right of the Dolphin controller settings are the Analogue and L & R trigger button settings. For my SN30+ Pro to work like a gamecube controller;
Click to configure the Analogue L button in Dolphin - Press the ANALOGUE L controller button.
Click to configure the L trigger button in Dolphin - Press the ANALOGUE L controller button.
Repeat for the R Analogue Button.

Mapping the same Analogue Trigger button on the controller to 2 buttons in Dolphin and the software recognises the controller button as a part press and full press!

                  Happy to answer PM's.

The hori one is down to $30 and blows this one out of the water imo.

PDP is really good quality. I have 2 of their controllers since March last year with daily use and no issues at all.

Had nothing but issues with this brand, had one of their corded Xbox remotes in 2016, it's joysticks went pretty quickly. Had a couple of wired Switch pads from them too, first one died and got returned. Decided I wouldn't buy the brand again, bought a PowerA one, turned out to be PDP in a rebadge job, it got returned not much later too. Caved and bought one last one in Big W because someone nicked the charge cable and they only wanted a tenner for it… it's sitting in my laundry cupboard gathering dust because it's joysticks went too.

I'd steer clear of the brand based on my own limited personal experience, but YMMV

    • What's wrong with the joysticks, drift?

You can adjust sensitivity in the PDP Xbox app, and that mitigates the issue somewhat.

      • That's cool to know, I guess. But they just would stop. They'd stop working a bunch. Like it only really got used as a controller 2 in Black Ops offline but for example, I remember clicking to sprint the guy would just stop moving all together so we had to play without sprinting and even then half the time the dude would stop when you'd try to turn a bit.

        • That's a shame, seems like the quality of them is pretty inconsistent.

Might not work, but tightening the dead-zone might help with registering movement.

Mine had the drift, and the A gets stuck down occasionally, so I'll try and shave the face-plate down.

          • +1

@ProfessorBargain: it might have dirt stuck underneath, give it a good clean with some IPA on a cotton bud

            • @SpeedRunnerLink: I think it's a bent/broken "spring", as it sits lower, and doesn't have the same "bounce" the other buttons have.

Can't get it stuck when trying now, after shaving the area around the button.

Thanks for the tip, though, it's amazing how filthy the inside of these controllers get.

  • Seems like all of those wired PDP controllers are on sale. I might just have to pick up the Sonic one now.

  • Does anyone know if these controllers work with the WiiU?
