Oculus Quest All-in-One VR Gaming Headset (64GB) - $649 Delivered @ Oculus.com

260

Another not deal deal,(similar to ring fit adventure)

Quest hasn't been in stock for about a month in australia and is being resold for 300+ dollars even for used ones on facebook/ebay/gumtree due to higher demand because of quarantine.

Not the cheapest price (actually the standard price) but the only place to buy it in australia is via AMAZON Australia or Directly from oculus.

Current thoughts is that the quest 64gb is the best you can buy at the price point.

    • Come back and say the same dead joke next time.

  • It is $642 via Amazon US and could save a bit more if you pay with gift card, but won't be dispatched until 26 June

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Oculus-Quest-All-Gaming-Headset/dp…

    • My return experience for Amazon US (they shipped me the wrong product then made me pay (refunded me of course after showing cost of shipping) the return cost) makes me say pay the extra 7$ for piece of mind.

This gets restocked every week, you just need to keep an eye on it

    • +1

Havent seen it in stock for about 3-4 weeks, might just be going really fast.

      • +2

It stocks on Wednesdays or Thursdays and stays up for about half a day, you just gotta be quick on the sticks

  • +1

is 64GB eoungh? I was thinking of getting 128GB.

    • +1

Games are about 1-3 gigs each. 64gb is enough unless you’re hoarding. I reached the limit once but I had a lot of games I actually wasn’t playing. They download very fast.

    • +1

Plenty of space. Worst case just delete a game you barely play.

I only play 3-5 games anyway. VR isn't something you do for hours on end.

    • 64 is more than enough even with modded beat saber + lots of songs

    • Its plenty

  • +1

This is very tempting so I can easily show friends VR over my launch day VIVE. plus you can get the Oculus Link or a high quality USB C to USB cable to make it tethered.

    • +1

Doesnt need to be USB c to USB c, Just usb 3 cable to USB C (makes it alot cheaper in australia)

      • Yeah I meant USB C to USB 3 just didn’t put the 3 in haha

      • +3

Doesn't even need to be USB 3 anymore, USB 2 works now

        • Yep, including the cable it ships with. Plugged that in to my GPUs USB-C and all good.

        • am i missing something? I thought JMxoxo was talking about using Oculus Link to play Rift games from the PC on the Quest? I thought that needed thunderbolt or USB 3.1 5gbps, certainly not USB 2?

          • +1

@drakarn_123: Since Oculus v17 (software on computer), Oculus Link now can work on USB 2 connections without any loss in quality or issues. That includes the charging cable that comes with the Quest will now work for Link

            • @snowl: wow, that's pretty huge… the oculus rift s will start to suffer surely!

              • @drakarn_123: Pretty much the only advantage the rift S has is the better weight/headstrap & higher refresh rate screen. But quest you get wireless + more updates + quest only games + higher resolution screen + oled screen. Facebook has said they are going to be looking at Quest 2 soon and presumably this will replace both quest + rift s.

          • @drakarn_123: Running games over 5Ghz wifi from the PC works well too with Virtual Desktop, I play that way more than with the cable to be honest.

            • @Pobman: any perceivable lag playing over wifi?
is it any laggier than via the cable?

              • +1

@dajackal: I don't notice it, the virtual desktop tool gives me a lag reading of 20-25ms over wifi, the steam tool gives me about 10-13ms… on the wire steam gives me 4-5ms. Perhaps if you go looking for a difference in visuals you will see it, but when just playing the games I don't. It's probably there is you are really in to the hardest levels of Beat Sabre or something like that.

Legit tempted to get this to use with the new Star Wars: Squadron game

    • Just make sure you have a good enough computer!

      • +2

Potential noob question: if you buy a Quest (being all-in-one) doesn't that mean you don't need a computer?

        • For the Star Wars game you need a PC.

        • Yes you don't need a computer for the quest :) Only if you want to play PCVR games

        • It can work as a vr goggle for pc vr games

        • +1

Only for games ported directly to the Quest. Star Wars Squadron will not be ported to the Quest.

          • @mackdiddy: THe oculus quest allows you to use a USB cable to use it as a traditional headset (the brand name is Oculus quest link)

            • @Jofzar: That's not what the guy was asking. He said "if you buy a Quest (being all-in-one) doesn't that mean you don't need a computer?"

Oculus Quest Link requires a computer.

        • It works both ways.

It has an OS and memory space for its own apps.
Or you can plug it into a computer and run VR games into it from there.

    • Small addition to others on here - using link implies you are running the game on the pc, and it is converting it to run on your quest. That process is a bit of overhead, not much but if you are near baseline stat's it will push you under.

Ie minspec for some. Games jumps from 970 to 1060 nvidia. It's hard to find what the exact perf cost is, but they've worked hard to minimise it.

  • Love this, build your own games with Unity

Ordered this 10days ago and still not even arrived in Aus. Anyone else recently ordered?

    • Did you order from oculus.com? Pre covid it used to be about 5-7 days delivery time to our capitals, both times I bought. Always shipped from HK.

      • Yeah straight from Oculus, it's been sitting in Singapore for a while

        • Not many flights coming into Australia is causing a huge backup from Singapore with Fedex. You should see your package in Australia by monday/tuesday.

    • Ordered my rift S on 6/6 saying it'll be shipped out on the 26/6

      Shipped out on 9/6

      Received 15/6.

      • Looks like I should have ordered a day earlier.

    • I've had a package sitting in New York waiting for departure for 3 weeks. Seems to be bit of an issue

Thrill of the fight is the best workout game on this in case anyone grabbed it.

    • One match in Thrill of the Fight and I'm done with it for months. The amount of exercise it involves puts me off :P
But yes, it's a great game haha

  • Anyone play half life alyx on this care to share their experience?

    • +1

I think it was a LTT video I was watching? Or maybe just a forum post somewhere:

The headset itself is pretty good (the Rift S is apparently very slightly better for use with a PC), and the main weakness for use with HL: Alyx is the controllers. The game was built for the Valve Index (and its controllers), so you lose the stronger hand/finger tracking with either of the Oculus setups.

It is still very playable though (apparently).

      • +1

The LTT videos Ive seen were a much older firmware, a lots changed since then.

    • I own the quest and I've played about 10 hours of Alyx. I use the official link cable.

      Does the job.
Don't have any issues with controls, don't really know what the finger tracking does, but I've never encountered anything in game that required me to use finger tracking.

      • I believe it's due to the Oculus controllers only sensing a 'button press' (so you can 'grab' an object).

Whereas the Valve controllers can sense when you 'lift' your finger, so you get a more realistic range of motion.

(eg 'grab/press' and 'relaxed/not pressed' which both controllers share, and then 'stretch' which is exclusive to the Index, where you lift your fingers off the controller).

Not a major deal, and as I said either system work great apparently, just the Index is better (which you would hope, given it's price tag!)

  • Goes in and out of stock pretty frequently, I bought one on the 8th. Be aware that there's shipping issues at the moment and Fedex packages from HK -> PER are taking over 10 days going via a very scenic route.

    • Mine started in Hong Kong, then to Japan and returning to Guangzhou which is a 3 hours drive from Hong Kong. Then it was the usual Singapore and Perth.

6 days of shipping with 3 days handling for me.

      • Mines gone Hong Kong > Taiwan > Phillipines > China and now Singapore lol

        • Mine too, probably on the same shipment. Hope it gets here soon, I can't stop checking the tracking!

          • +1

@Marcuspt: Same, hah! Cannot wait, mine says estimated Monday by 6pm but the comments of delays make me doubt it. Fingers crossed though!

          • @Marcuspt: Still in NSW for me, says in transit.

            • +1

@JMxoxo: Yeah mine changed to 'in transit' at Matraville earlier today. At least it's in the country now, hopefully it arrives tomorrow or thursday

              • @Marcuspt: Just got cleared from customs, hopefully in VIC tomorrow! I am hoping Friday but I know itll be Monday fml!

                • @JMxoxo: I think mine did too, it changed to 'at local FedEx facility' at about 3:30pm, does yours say something different? I'm in VIC too, fingers crossed it comes before the weekend!

                  • @Marcuspt: Mine is available for clearance but still at Matraville NSW. So I don’t think it has cleared customers, just about to enter it hah. Damn sounds like you’ll get yours tomorrow or Friday! Well more likely to than I.

                    • +1

@JMxoxo: Actually it says 'at local FedEx facility' but still listed at Matraville. Was 'In transit' at Matraville for a bit before that. So no idea if it's through customs yet or not. Weird that the tracking is so different!

                      • @Marcuspt: I have, albeit rarely, had international packages say they were a state away and then be on-board for delivery before, so it is probably just weird scan points, we are probably on same pallet I imagine haha

                      • @Marcuspt: Still in NSW in Rydalmere atm, still hoping tomorrow…

                        • @JMxoxo: My tracking still says 'at local fedex facility - Matraville', what does yours say? I just called up Fedex, and they said the shipment is still in customs and might take another 3-4 days to get to Melbourne.

                          • @Marcuspt: Mine says in transit Rydalmere, nothing about customs but available for clearance was the second last event. I’ll give a buzz later and see what I get out of them

                          • @Marcuspt: So it is apparently on its way to TNT Melbourne depot currently according to the person on the phone and has cleared customs. She said unlikely tomorrow and most likely early next week. I use TNT for work (now Fedex basically) and are pretty good, so still hoping.

                            • @JMxoxo: Oh right, that's crazy how bad the tracking is. I hope mine is on the same pallet as yours then! Please keep me updated and I'll do the same.

                              • @Marcuspt: Yeah it is a bit annoying but oh well, fingers crossed there’s a lot of events overnight/tomorrow morning!
Will do man, I’ll let you know when it’s on board for delivery/in my hands.

                                • @JMxoxo: FYI Mine just changed to 'International shipment release - Matraville', and scheduled delivery 'Thursday 25 June', which obviously isn't gonna happen haha.

                                  • @Marcuspt: Yeah mine still states delivered by today at 6pm!

                                  • @Marcuspt: On board for delivery!!!

                                    • @JMxoxo: Amazing! Mine still says ''At Destination Facility - Derrimut' though, just called them to see if it will be delivered today or if I can just go pick it up, they'll ring back to let me know.

                                      • @Marcuspt: Do you have a scheduled delivery date/time?

                                      • @Marcuspt: Mine says No 4 Branch but I am Far East side of Vic. Even though googling No4 Branch says some random ass town in QLD! You can also pick it up tomorrow I believe just FYI they are open for a short period on Saturdays. I am so damn keen!

                                        • @JMxoxo: QLD, that's so weird, probably just another tracking error. Mine now says out for delivery by 5pm! This has been the longest week of waiting ever haha

                                          • @Marcuspt: Indeed the longest week ever hahaha, can’t believe how long it spent in NSW! Did you order yours on the 17th?

                                            • @JMxoxo: Yeah ordered on the 17th. Honestly expected the holdup to be in Singapore or something rather than NSW! Would have been so much easier to order from the Amazon post earlier this week, looks like some of those have already been delivered

                                              • @Marcuspt: Yeah same here, was expecting all the globe trotting it did to be a hold up. Agreed definitely would of gone via Amazon if I knew, I just didn’t expect them to go back into stock. The other concern would be with any warranty stuff.

                                                • @JMxoxo: Just got it!!

                                                  • @Marcuspt: Still waiting :( probably trucking it’s way on over!

                                                  • @Marcuspt: If you will be using it connected to your PC, there is a steam sale on at the moment also for some VR games!

                                                  • @Marcuspt: Delivered!!! YEEEHAWW

                                                    • @JMxoxo: I saw, not sure what to pick up first - So excited! Enjoy :)

                                                      • @Marcuspt: Man this headset is so good. So much better than the Vive. The side quest stuff is pretty cool too.

  • The 128gb version is in stock now for $799 just FYI.

    After talking to @rofarge
    In the rift s, thread.

Here is a link to it, the info provided by rofarge is pretty useful in deciding on which to get

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/542694

I think I will go ahead with one of these, also due to the extra support oculus is giving these over the rift s

  • Thanks OP, please ignore the negs about it not being a deal, at this price with free delivery it is a no-brainer for me considering you also get a PCVR headset in the same package.

Never would have known if it wasn’t for your post.

  • Based on my experience of 2 faulty Quest headsets its best to buy local from Amazon.com.au like I did. The first fault (left speaker dead) I contacted Oculus direct and although they were good about swapping it for a new one, they FedEx'ed it back to Hong Kong and then sent me a replacement from Hong Kong. Due to few flights around the world the headset went via China, then Japan then stayed in Singapore for a few days before getting to Sydney. So almost 3 weeks from contacting Oculus to getting a replacement. When the new one had a dead pixel , I just contacted Amazon and within hours I had a return label and dropped at post office and I will have a refund in a couple of days. So I will do that in future if i re-buy a Quest. Have I been unlucky ?

    • I would say unlucky with faulty units unfortunately. I would of gotten via Amazon if it was in stock at the time but assumed they wouldn’t any time soon, so bought on Oculus. Would of cancelled but mine shipped that afternoon.
The main issues I have heard are from people’s wear and tear from using them a lot. I have owned the OG Vive for over 4 years now and it is still going strong despite some solid use.

Did it arrive DOA or was it after a while it died? I’d be pretty pissed if it arrived DOA
