    • Yup, I bought one from Chemist Warehouse too.
Go for pink colour (Gentle Mint) if you want something Gentle. I was looking for orange listerine but it looks like they don't produce it anymore.

Dont these kill the good bacteria in your mouth (eventully upsetting the gut flora balance)

    Source:

Researchers at Harvard University found that people who used mouthwash twice a day were around 55 per cent more likely to develop diabetes or dangerous blood sugar spikes, within three years.

    • Yes, if there's bad odour coming from your mouth and you fight it with mouthwash, you're basically masking the symptoms without fixing the cause.

    • The study looked at 1,206 overweight people aged between 40 and 65 who were deemed at risk of getting diabetes.

Wow, what a shocker, overweight middle aged people tend to get diabetes.

I know it is anecdotal but I'm a slim middle aged man who exercises and uses mouthwash. I don't have diabetes or high sugar.

I find if I don't use mouthwash I tend to get significant plaque despite good mouth hygiene practices.

      • I would not have thought that you get signicant plaque with good hygiene practices? It accumulates over time and mostly due to poor hygine practices?

    • Perhaps some aren't aware that we have an oral microbiome, and the idea that killing off bacteria, both "good" and "bad" will have no negative consequences.

This way of thinking is the reason why we have anti-biotic resistant bacteria now.

You may want to try a tooth-paste (and a diet) that incorporates pre-biotics, that actually feed the "good" bacteria in the mouth:

  • Doesn't it not do a lot other than make your mouth feel good and minty. Source = cant remember :-)

    • Sounds like it left a bad taste in your mouth? =p
