Bit rich for my blood but damn what a monitor.

I have the new aoc 144hz 34 inch on order. Amazing that I could get three of them for the price of this lol

      Which monitor is that?

    • I have my eye on that exact monitor. I can't find a review on it from a major outlet but every review I have watched/read on it has very positive things to say… the biggest question for me is do I upgrade the monitor or GPU first…

      • What gpu do you have

        • I'm still rocking a gtx980 (non-Ti), which for my 1080P gaming as been absolutely fine.

@Known: I'd suggest it would probably struggle at 3440 x 1440p for anything above low med for most compatible games.

I have a 2080 currently which is perfect for now.
May upgrade to the 3000 series ti if anything.

Is this monitor really that good compared to say the X34P? For this money, might as well get the Samsung CRG9 SEXY* or potentially depending on AUD price, the new Odyssey G9.

    • Note: I'm aware the monitor's technical name is "Samsung LC49RG90SSEXXY".
    • Check out the AOC 49". Same panel as the CRG9 and some other nice features for $1,750 AUD. Got one on the way.

      • I have the previous 1080p CHG90. Still going strong so probably not going to change again anytime soon :( Only thing I don't like about it is the PBP is a bit flaky for some reason (or maybe it's just sensitive to my laptop's HDMI output).

        • +1

Yeah, very fair. I have had my 34" for 7 years or so and only just upgrading now… luckily work is backing me!

      • Note the AOC 49" doesn't support HDR1000 whilst the Samsung CRG9 does and they are not the same panel. The AOC is also only an 8 bit panel vs the 10 bit of the Samsung.

        • All reviews and videos of the Samsung doing HDR1000 show that it's pretty terrible - about as non-existent as the HDR400 options. Although if it's important worth keeping in mind.

          https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/892ae54a…

Display Specs shows that the panels are very similar in almost every regard, so the AOC may be a lower binned version of the same panel. Better warranty though I think? I like the connectivity options on the AOC better anyway - USB-C is handy for having a laptop and PC connected.

          • @OpenHand: So there is no proof that they are same panel other than your assumptions. Similar does not mean the same.

    • You are referring to the current one or the new one coming out? Because the new one is a BEAST!

      • Higher refresh rate and a deeper curve .. other than that pretty much the same panel… You'd need a beast of a card to push that… It is already a struggle to push the current crg9 @ 120hz with a 2080ti..

    • If the global G7 sales pricing is any guide, the G9 might drop below $2000 fast.

      • Currently available to pre order on the Singapore Samsung website for around 2.8k. that's almost 3k AUD… 2k maybe in a year time?

        • +1

The MSRP of the G7 is $1150, but it's being sold in the UK for an equivalent price of $750 inc GST.

It's very common for monitors to go for 70-85% off the RRP shortly after launch due to pricing being done while everything is still in development, and changes in the economies of scale as panel manufacturing ramps up.

Also, here's the G9 for an equivalent $2150.

It's important to remember there's now a lot of price pressure due to newer HDR tech, 4k120Hz OLED/QLED TVs with decent input lag, and so on. Monitor demand might be up, but supply is also up and substitute goods are strong competitors.
