Are Brands Like Kogan or ALDI Considered a Bargain According to OzBargain's Rules?

I was reading OzBargain's Deal Posting Guidelines and the following conditions always trouble me when I see something cheap from Kogan or ALDI

  • CHECK competitors prices before posting.
  • Is this really the best price on the web? Check for the lowest prices.
  • How does the price compare to elsewhere?
  • Remember to consider whether it really is a bargain as compared with stores.

Since Kogan and ALDI branded products are only sold by themselves, no matter how cheap they are, I was not able to meet the above conditions.

Is comparing ALDI washing machine's price with Samsung washing machine price a real comparison? or comparing price of Kogan SmarterHome outlet the same comparison with TP-Link's Smart outlet?

What do you think?

  • kogan is same like $2 shops.

Kogan is a brand, and their deals are often compared with equivalents from other brands. Same with Aldi, which sold products under various brands. For example Medion.

I think most OzBargainers are aware of those store-exclusive brands, and know how to compare them.

    • The question is they are similar but not the same. I often seeing other OP get grilled for not checking the price for the exact same product.

Most ALDI deals posted is completely new, and exclusive brand that cannot be compared, unless they were previously sold. The same goes to Kogan.

      For example this deal

How do we compare the equivalent?

When it is a home branded product, only post Kogan/Aldi deals if it is discounted from their usual price. Their usual price can be cheap but is is not a deal.

    • discounted from their usual price

I emphasized the key word in your precise comment. Kogan notorious for jacking prices up significantly only to discount it to … above their usual price - don't fall for this.

      • He did say usual price, not Kogan RRP. Price hipster provides some assistance on this

        • That's what ihbh is emphasizing, the usual price and not RRP.

    • Completely agree with you.

Kogan SmarterHome 1.7l Smart Glass Kettle $59.99 + Delivery - Is this a deal?
Kogan SmarterHome 1.7l Smart Glass Kettle $35.99 Delivered - This is a deal

Since Kogan and ALDI branded products are only sold by themselves

Often the items are not exclusive in the sense that they are white label products meaning other brands are on the same item at other vendors.

    • The problem is how do we know which other vendors have the same white label product as this?

  • We went in last week to get the $100 fire pit, was sold out that afternoon. I was a bit annoyed but knew it was a bargain.
2 weeks before that I got a bunch of garden stuff, was only a few left.. was a bargain.

    • I agree with you, but I am actually trying to test the rules.
