I have one and I love it. I can sit at my desk and tell Google to turn it on and by the time I go out to the kitchen it is boiled.
The app will also tell you when the water is boiled.
Also, it boils really fast, it looks lovely and I love you can see what the temperature of the water is.
I am buying one now for my sister.

Love it here as well. Although I still find voice commands a bit odd, so I just have a shortcut on my phone to press.

My best case use - wife at home, trying to get onto urgently, but she’s not answering. I boil the kettle from work and 2 seconds later I get a call from her.

Does the kettle fill itself with water too when you ask Google?

        Wow you saved 30 seconds

I had a $29 Kogan stainless steel kettle. It lasted to just outside of the warranty period.

The lid mechanism ceased up in warranty period. On inspection the plastic against the stainless steel had cracked and there were numerous rust spots.

Kogan warranty support was awful, they simply closed the ticket and ignored any emails.

Any way to remove the hideous logo from the front?

    • +1

I’ve got it and, to be honest, didn’t even realise that logo was there.

      • Better get them eyes checked

        • All good. It's dark grey on light grey at the bottom of the kettle. It's not obnoxious enough to put me off, but that's just me.

    • You could cover it with another logo to trick your friends?

I have one and like it. It's a perfectly functional kettle, even if you don't use the smarts. I haven't used the temperature settings (but it's there if my wife gets back into cheese-making) but the temperature display is still useful to get an idea of how long it's likely to take to boil.

I called it "the kettle" in Google Home, so I can say "hey Google, put the kettle on" and it will reply "Turning the kettle on" It's a small luxury, but it's just cool to have the kettle boiling while you make your way to the kitchen instead of waiting until you're there…

If only the engineers had added a 20c strain gauge to get a rough measure of the amount of water in the kettle. Sigh.

      Great review

    • Can you set the desired temperature on the kettle without the app? Can you enable keep warm the same way or do you need the app/google integration for both?

      • Need the app.

        • Thanks. Hate devices like these that require apps to fully function.

      • You can toggle through the temperature in 10C increments using a touch switch, next to the power touch switch.

  • Bought one in December last year and it's still working but I did run into a few issues with it though:
    - integrated it with Google assistant and then tried boiling the water. Not sure what I did but it didn't stop once it hit 100 degrees and the water started leaking so I've since removed that integration. Was fine under normal use though.
    - it doesn't keep the water hot for very long after it boils, so expect that it'll cool down pretty quickly
    - not the most user friendly as well. Eg if say you need to keep the water warm, and you set it up to do that. Once you take it off the base and put it back on, you'll need to set it up again to keep the water warm.

That said, 6 months in, it still works as a kettle and was handy being able to see the temp of the water as its heating up/cooling down.

  • We have one and it does the job. The strainer on the spout completely wore away but apart from that, smooth sailing - and ours gets quite a workout.

The other negative that we read, prior to buying - which did definitely happen is that the lid will stick quite often, but once you get used to pressing both the button in and against wall around the button, you get used to being able to pry it up, quite easily. Sounds laborious, but is effortless.

As long as the people in your house can abide by the policy of keeping the kettle filled at or above minimum level, it works well for the smart functionality.

  • Is the smart functionality actually useful in this case? I mean you have to go and physically fill the kettle with water each time anyhow, so flicking it on is just a natural extension once you put it on it's base right?

    • It's useful if you can rewire yourself and everyone in your household to refill it after using it, therefore maintaining an always ready state that allows you to use the smart functionality.

      • Unless you are know how much water the next use will require, you will be obviously wasting a lot of electricity needlessly boiling the extra water.

        • Hah, true - though that is a level of micromanagement of energy usage that I'm not prepared to submit to.

    • I don't have one (yet), but I have a relatively strict tea making routine, especially while working from home. I would want it boiled at 7:20, 8:40, 10:40 and 2:40, and maybe ad hoc in between as well. Would be quite useful.

Ahh the sex kettle is back

I bought one yesterday, didn't even think about posting the price in here! Ozbargain newb

  • Or you could get a smart plug for $10 and use your existing kettle.

Which kettle turns on in the presence of AC power return?

      • Depending on the kettle. Some you can flick the switch when it's off and then when AC power returns it will start boiling.

In saying that, you still need to purchase a smart plug and for the other features this has, it was worth it for me to get this kettle.

Im on the 3rd kettle so far. First one the lid kept sticking to the front part of the rim. Had to dremel it. Then it started leaking from the base after 6 months. Kogan warranty was a pain as usual. They wanted videos in the end which was ok. 2nd one lasted 2 months before it kept shorting the switch board. Warranty took over a month to sort out and they wanted the kettle back first before posting the replacement. Ive moved the kettle to a secondary area that has low use now.

    3rd Kettle here too,

First one emmited a high pitch whine constantly. recorded it and got sent a replacement.
Second one the smart function never worked, once again recorded it and they sent out a replacement.

The Third one which i currently have, has started leaking from the base after about 4 months of use. Have yet to contact Kogan about it though due to lazyness.
Kogan has actualy been pretty easy to deal with with previous returns.

Whilst it works i like it, but seems to be alot of quality issues, and i actualy think the inherent design of the temp probe within it will always begin to leak sooner or later. I predicted it would leak first time i saw it.

  • I've had this kettle for about 7 months now. It's great! I don't use the smart function that much any more. But it's a really good, nice looking kettle!

  • It is a good deal if you have Kogan First and the $20 voucher. Make it $40, less than $49 last year.
