I don't understand why people are complaining about this. They've made a gesture and whether it is genuine or just used to drum up business there are people who deserve this and people who will benefit from this, and some of those 2 groups will overlap…

I haven't taken advantage of any of the offers over the last few months but it certainly makes a nice change from getting nothing but complaints about not being there quick enough, being told how we should have done things by Facebook firefighters and medics, and every volunteer's favourite "I pay your wages."

Nobody chooses to be a "first responder" for the money and they definitely don't do it for the occasional discount.

    • -2

Agree with most but would suggest changing "Nobody" in your last sentence to 'Most don't". Plenty of med practitioner driving fancy cars and living in mansions :D

      • +1

That's a case of hard work paying off I think.

I've also been fortunate that my volunteering has morphed into a job that pays relatively well but that was more of an accident than good planning.

    • Best offer for me was the 3 months of free Optus mobile plans. Saved me almost $400

      • How plans do you have with Optus? Sounds pretty expensive for one plan

  • Im planning on buying Bose headphone 700, it will come to 421 after discount. Is it cheaper anywhere else?

    • +1

      Not worth it sold mine

      • any particular reason why? about to buy some myself

        • Ok, the app is terrible and connection is a pita, I have 4 apple devices I swap between, they can connect to 2 at a time which works and you can set up more, but when you want to use the other 2 you have to go into app and disconnect one every time.
Had to re set and set up again a fair few times.
I swapped to Beats studio 3 they have the apple w1 chip and connect like AirPods, no need for an app. So much better for my uses, also easy to get for $250 new off eBay which I paid.

          • @[Deactivated]: Second the beats, very under rated… don’t care what anyone says - brilliant. Can regularly be had under $300 too

            • @Fancydancer: Yes 100%, I have had Bose QC3511 and 700 too and prefer the beats. I paid $250 new/sealed but have seen some go on eBay for less, people getting them for free with Macs offloading.

People are whinging and complaining because COVID was controlled and didn’t escalate to the extent of the other countries. The sour grapes mentality they harboured meant they believe the frontline workers deserved nothing as they didn’t suffer enough.

The risks they have to take with violent, drug fueled, aggressive, sick and demanding people every day, the least the wider public could do is show some visible support

Funny how many people bag the frontline workers like nurses and police from the comfort of their homes …. then when something bad happens they cry like babies for help from the very people they insult.

    LOL idiots

    • +1

Thanks for acknowledging some of the stuff we go through.

I've had colleagues injured by aggressive/violent patients. I often hear about paramedics and nurses being assaulted and even killed. Even had patients spitting on hospital staff early on in the COVID period. These incidents don't get acknowledged enough.

I think these gestures are a nice thank you.

Happy to help purchase for anyone around south east melbourne :)
i'm looking for an e-reader myself

  • So if something is already on sale is it 15% off the sale price?

    • +1

Yeah it is off the ticketed price so if something is 500 and it is on sale for 400, the discount applies on 400.

      • So you reckon the Hisense and Samsung TVs that already have 15% off… Will again have 15% off that?

So something like this advertised at $2970.. Will go down to $2500 or so?

        • Hey mate, yeah I called up and checked on behalf of sister who is a Nurse and she is going to buy a laptop and headset that are on sale and the person said it is on the ticketed price, so discount applies on whatever advertised price is (not on something you have negotiated down further - from what he said).

          • @TChalla: Funny. Wife who is a nurse, called up, and asked two stores and they both clearly said, nope, the deal can not be put on top of each other.

The ticket price, and you can see it on the website, for example, is $3495. The discounted price is $2970. They both said, it is off the 'ticket' price, and not the 'discounted' price.

            • @crowboy3103: That is so weird, I had called the Narellan store. Now I am not sure if it is even worth going in.

As per the ad, I asked about "Discounts apply to most recent previous ticketed/advertised price" and was told the advertised price so I assume that to be lowest price (so the lower price that is discounted in the catalogue.

              • @TChalla: “Discount off ticketed price”. Says this on their Facebook post. Surely it’s off the current ticket price..

                • @strid: Looks like they have removed a HP laptop sister was looking at for 449 and it is back up to 549. So it is more expensive now even with the first responders discount on the ticketed price. Won't be going in now haha.

                  • @TChalla: Just went in and bought a 75" TU8000, which was reduced to $1,935 today. They gave it to me for 15% off $1,935 (i.e. off the already discounted price) bringing the total to $1,645. Also let me have 15% off a Switch. Very happy.

        • Hey mate,

Literally just bought a Hisense 65" Q8 this morning.

          Original price $2295
          Current Sale price $1995

Price I payed with the 15% first responder's discount $1695.

I'm really happy with that price!

          • @thisispants: That's awesome guys. Was going to go in the morning for sister but she has afternoon shift so she will miss out on this one.

Good that you guys got those prices!

          • @thisispants: So my bad. So ended up going tonight and did the same thing with the Samsung Q80T. The sales person was also shocked to learn its 15% off the already discounted price.

Ended up getting the Samsung Q80T for around $2250 for the 65”
            instead of the Hisense Q8..

All their Dyson prices are quite high even with the discount.

  • Anyone had any experience with JB's Premium Delivery service? This discount will bring the Samsung Hub fridge to under $4k, cheapest we've seen.

  • -8

When is non-first-responders day?? Essential workers day? Everyone is essential regardless of the job you do or the part you play in society. This is clever virtue signalling marketing.

    • -1

And this is dumb entitled whinging

  • If you negotiate a price on an item, they give you a slip to go to the counter, do you reckon they will give you an extra 15% off?

  • +3

    Need to update the post:

"Discount offer excludes Apple Products, Mobile Phone Contracts, Miele & Asko agency products, Dell Built to Order, Pre-Paid Cards & Gift Cards, Pre-Orders, Gaming Consoles, Extended Warranties, Installation & Delivery. Discounts apply to most recent previous ticketed/advertised price. As we negotiate on price, products are likely to have sold below ticketed/advertised price in stores prior to the discount offer. Offers not available at Airport & Express stores."

  • +1

Could they price match a item on myer? Then give additional 15% discount.?

  • +1

Hi there, I just picked up the switch for full price but they just called me and said that because there was no correspondence that updated the exclusion of gaming consoles I was eligible for the 15% off! Maybe try saying you weren't told about it and hopefully it'll work for you guys too! Good luck!

    • +1

Didn't realise consoles were excluded, I guess they didn't either.
Went in and worked for me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: someone pointed out pic showed card number…wasn't my cc just the online membership card.

I sent my wife to get a Switch at about 8:30am, not realising they had changed it to exclude the switch. She managed to get the discount as well.

      • +1

I got the switch too at 15% off and a bunch of other things - the computer just automatically applied discount to all.

Finally replaced my 12 year old Samsung with an CX65 this morning.

Girlfriend is a midwife so got 15% off already discounted price ($4295) at JB HiFi.

Paid $3650.75 total, pretty happy with that plus it came with 3.5 year warranty.

  • +2

My wife also just managed to pick up a switch with the 15% off deal for $381. Score!

  • Got an oppo A52 for $251. Paid with a gift card that I purchased for $225. Feels good!
