        • Assume they'd all come with rounded safety blades.

  • Having a really bad time with an undelivered order from Baccarat on their knife set. Ordered a present for my brother (Birthday June 13) back on May 23 this year. It was tracked as shipped by Auspost out of Melbourne (going to Adelaide) on 1st of June. Its not been delivered by AusPost so I opened a case with them, they say to check with seller as sometimes the seller may not have delivered it into AusPost to send even though its tagged at a business center. They also advised the shipment should have arrived in Adelaide within 6 days (from 1 June) allowing for Covid delays and I was on the phone to them 10 days after the item shipped when I opened my AusPost case. So I went online with Baccarat, opened a support ticket two weeks back with the seller as AusPost said get the seller to check with AusPost on the missing item, no update since. I been calling Baccarat every day since Friday last week. The phone rings and puts you on hold for 21mins and says sorry we cant get the phone now and says to leave a message but cuts out just before you can say anything.

If I dont get any feedback on my missing order, I'm going to ask my bank to reverse the sale for non-delivery…and about zero customer service from Baccarat so far. Let's hope I hear back from them this week. Its been 4 weeks since I ordered the item, 2 weeks since it was due for delivery. I had to explain to my brother why he doesn't have his birthday gift yet and the month is almost through.

    • My sister had the EXACT same issue with a baccarat knife set recently. Took well over a month to post despite their being tracking. I believe she ordered in early May and it only just updated her tracking this week.

Of course the company blames Auspost and Auspost blames the company. When the tracking doesn't ever update as received by Auspost, we all know that it means the sender hasn't actually handed it off…

    • Can I ask if you redirected your delivery on the auspost side of things. I did this with an item and it spent about 3 weeks in limbo going back and forth between auspost depots with zero accountability. It eventually turned up and nobody batted an eyelid.

      Food for thought.

  • I think these are chinese-made using German Steel.

Do you think these below are any better for about $100 AUD?
Yes you have to wait for them, but asrey1975's experience above is fairly poor? (not necessarilly typical)

They are made with rosewood handles and a cold tempering process etc…no knife block though.

Knife blocks dull your knives anyway. Just store them in the bodies of your fallen enemies.

These Knives aren’t very good save your money in my opinion.

Trident Wusthof Ef-Dick,Shun would be much better even Victorinox and Mundial are better then these.

I’d sharpen a baccarat on the front concrete porch step 🤣

The Wolfgang Starke 9 piece german steel knife block seem the best of the German Steel knives Baccarat make.
There are not so easily available: (these below are still around $200)

RRP of those is always around $500-$600 which is just a big joke! That's why I don't trust this brand anymore.

Yes it is a joke, but the knives are decent - i think this was a fire sale

  • Baccarat pots and pans are quite good. I’ve had a set for 15 years that perform well.

Baccarat knives are terrible. They are cheap and nasty and become blunt very quickly.

    • +1

Probably a valid point against Baccarat knives, but even a well made, high priced knife will dull if not looked after. Given bargain hunters usually shop for these, I can't help but think that knife care is the last of people's concerns which unfortunately leads to a bad impression of quality.

I don't own any Baccarat knives but I do have a good quality set of Global knives and have noticed that they generally dull over time. I'd treat general dulling as normal as you should always service your knives from time to time. I'd be more concerned with knives chipping or separating where they have multiple pieces in their handles.

    • Pans are terrible. We got a non-stick that didn't last a year egging and frying.

      • Haven’t used their non-stick pans. I meant their regular stainless steel pots and pans. That’s what they’ve been making for decades. My mum has a set which was a wedding present 40 years ago and all are still in great condition.

        For non-stick, I like Scanpan.
