Be good if you added some notable specs for everyone to see what the big deal is? $500 for a wimpy ass single core isn't exciting!

    • +1

Windows phone doesn't require dual-cores to run at a decent speed. They are coming but for now it is not a high priority for them.

    • +1

this is windows phone 7 with mango and it doesn't need dual core like androids do, this is actually cheaper than the one from mobicity a few days back

      • +2

Thats because Winmo 7 doesnt support Dual core (yet) and previously had issues with getting the second core working. Funny thing is.. all those companies that arent bringing out dual cores say that there are no significant advantages (eg. Microsoft, SONY Ericsson etc). But this is contrary to all the benchmarks and youtube videos that show how much faster it is.
For me, I wouldnt get Windows Phone.. hate the ugly interface.

        • then why did you come into this page. U guys should stayout of wp7 phone discussions or offers if you dont like them. For other people, some main difference with 1'st gen phones and HTC Radar are:

          —Internet Tethering(Depends on Carriers approval)
—Front facing Camera(Wait for some nice Voip apps, video messaging and calls integrated into hubs and most importantly skype)
          —Upgraded Camera
          —Nice Design
—Optimised for Mango update to take advantage of all the 500 new features(Frankly i donno what are they exactly just like the apple fanboys who doesnot know what 200 new features they are getting with their ios 5)

  • +5

    Can I neg this?

    Nexus S for 279
    Optimus 7 for 289
    Optimus 2X for 378

All in the last couple of days, and you expect this grey import to be treated as a deal. Rep, you seriously need to do a lot better.

    • +1

I can understand the import part but i find comparing Windows Phones and Android phones is pointless. Also this phone has literally just come out and not available with any Aus carrier yet.

      • Optimus 7 is a W7 phone.

        • -1

Optimus 7 is a 1st gen WP7 phone, this is 2nd gen. They are similar in hardware yes but new stuff is always going to cost more regardless.

        • +4

If the specs are the same, and you can easily update to Mango. Its hard to justify paying almost 200 more for a grey import.

        • It's a brand new model which you instantly pay a few hundred more for. You get a better camera as well as front facing camera. That's about it, and I wouldn't jump on this, but I haven't seen a Radar cheaper anywhere else yet (though I haven't looked very hard either).

Personally, my Samsung Focus ($600 at launch) will do me fine for a while longer, and is probably still the best value handset around if you don't mind grabbing one from eBay.

        • I don't think you get it. Whilst similar, they are worlds apart.

Updated chip, better camera sensor, front facing camera, gyro, bigger battery.

  • "No GST for orders less than $1000 AUD"

Presumably grey import with no warranty?

  • +1

HTC Radar eh? I've never heard of this phone.

  • +1

    Hi there.
Why would you want to neg this? Can you find a better deal Garratt Torlesse?
@ EarlyBird, actually we do offer an extended warranty: 15mths for $30 AUD :-)

    • -5

Not for this exact phone, but the general pricing trend for these phones are in the 300-400 dollar range.

Btw, I just listed three phones with similar or better specs than this for less.

      • The deal is for this exact phone….oranges and apples

        • -2

You're right, I didn't notice that this is a Mango, but still not a competitive price for a grey import.

        • @Garratt

That's true but for now this phone is not available with any Aus Carrier.

  • -1

Hey Spawnpoint - we've noted specifics on the product page on our site - is there something that we haven't noted that you'd like us to note for you specifically?

    • I was saying add it to the post description. It just means everyone doesn't have to click the website to find out about the specs.

I just noted that this has the same GPU/CPU as the Desire HD.

      • -2

    • We are a legitimate device supplier. Expansys is part of EXPANSYS PLC which joined the London AIM, the London Stock Exchange’s international market for smaller growing companies, in April 2007; for more information on the company behind Expansys.com, please see our Investor Relations site. All devices come with a warranty and option to extend to 15 months.

      • +2

        You have no Australian presence.

Your .com.au domain name has been registered with false details that no longer apply.

You have no current Australian ABN/ACN.

You wrote earlier that you just received stock from your Hong Kong office (suggesting that you had an Australian office). However, I do not believe that you have any real Australian presence.

These 'devices' are not supported by any warranty from their Australian distributors.

Any warranty would be from some private repair shop, with no access to genuine replacement parts (or to replacement handsets from the manufacturer) OR the phones would have to be returned to Hong Kong for repair/replacement.

If you are going to illegally offer mobile phones that lack the required A-Tick (and C-Tick for the chargers) for importation, and sale, and use, in Australia - at least be honest about it.

That way a buyer can make an informed decision, and balance the risks against any savings.

          Hi A3A,

Thanks for your notes. I'm sorry, where did I suggest that we had an Australian office? I don't recall that, I've just scanned through everything to seek out how that could have come across, as I would never set out to mislead like this. I think that I have been very clear about our HK Warehouse location, noting this in a couple of posts already. Please confirm where you saw this, so that I can nip that in the bud ASAP thanks!

I've just made a very detailed post to mediam0de - perhaps this will answer some of your questions / provide some clarification.

Expansys is a legitimate online business, listed on the UK Stock exchange under Expansys PLC.

If after this you have further questions, or comments it may be best to email us as I endeavour that this deal will be over in a day or so and I'd like to sort any questions that you have.

Our business email address is: [email protected].

          Thx!

        • Thx

  • +1

What's wrong with being in HK? HK is our Asia Pacific Hub - we are a global company. It doesn't make sense for us to have a warehouse in every single country that we operate in…we'd not be able to offer cost effective device deals. We have an AU phone # and local AUD currency for customer convenience…all devices are delivered by Fedex.

    • +1

Which part of "grey" import don't you get? Mind you, there is nothing wrong with a grey import, but the general understanding is that grey imports are cheaper than proper Australian stock.

      • I understand grey fine, r we not cheaper?

        • where do you think Australian Stock comes from? We get it from the same manufacturers….

    • Just look up a few posts.

Here is exactly what you said -

"@ Radar, Nice Name - it's one of HTC's latest launch items. We just got stock last week from our UK office."

I note that you have not replied regarding your .com.au domain.

You know very well that you do not reply to the 'hard' questions sent via eMail AND that you remove any complaints, reports of warranty problems, etc. from your forums.

      • +1

Thanks, OIC, yes that we received stock from the UK office - but I did not note the location there of receipt as being Australia (did I?), actually I have noted HK in several posts here already earlier.

With all due respect, I'm unsure how " ExpansysDoesIT 16 hours 35 min ago @ Radar, Nice Name - it's one of HTC's latest launch items. We just got stock last week from our UK office. "

equates to >You wrote earlier that you just received stock from your Hong Kong office"

Re the domain, I didn't feel it to be relevant to the deal as I've noted. Honestly, I'm just a rep, I have no idea about this - Expansys has had this site for a long time as I understand. I'm going to try to learn more about this today.

Re the forum, yes I am aware of an issue that occurred recently between 2 users in the forum. This was the first time that anything but spam had been removed for a long time. We removed it as we saw the nature of the posts as being against the terms of use for the forum. Honestly, all forum moderators on global forums have this right and it's something that we don't take lightly.

We aren't that active in the form actually, it's there for users to discuss their devices and related content, which is why we ask that all customers contact us directly for any customer service inquiries/ support. Warranty inquiries, or any other customer service inquiries should NOT be posted in our forum, as we do not actively manage it from a customer service perspective. We are simply not geared up for this, as the forum is provided as more of a community based forum for users.

I'm sorry, hard questions by email? Have you emailed us something that we have not replied to? If so, I'd be keen to look at that - if you wish you can email this over to me at [email protected] and I'll take a look at this for you.

        I hope that this clarifies.

  • +1

its basically a trophy with mango

  • What's the issue with our warehouse being in HK? Can someone please explain? I' m an Aussie and I really can't understand why this would be an issue when you are getting the same quality handset for a good price? The shipping fee is on par with what many local suppliers offer - some of these local suppliers get their gear from us anyway…please let me know your feedback if it's such an issue?

    • ABN?

      • Why do you ask?
If we had an ABN it would be listed on our website, we would also need to charge GST for orders.

        ABN = GST
No ABN = GST Free for orders up to $1000.00 AUD

We are not an Australian company, we are a part of EXPANSYS PLC, as noted above, a publicly listed company, based in the UK. Chances are that if you purchase a handset locally in AU, it has come via our channel anyway…

        • If you don't have an ABN, how did you get a .com.au domain?

      • RE: garratt torlesse 19 min ago new
If you don't have an ABN, how did you get a .com.au domain?

What does this have to do with the deal?

You must have got some sort of presence in Australia in order to qualify for a .com.au domain.

          e.g. ABN, trademarks etc.

Because you are an unknown quantity, the online world is a dangerous place, and you need to build your credibility.

You are probably running a very legit business, but there are just dots that are not connecting. Not to mention the relatively poor feedback on whirlpool.

        • +1

Expansys is well known in the whirlpool phone circles. No need to doubt their credibility.

  • +2

because the samsung galaxy s 2 is 2 dollars :D compared to the s2 this is a ripoff :P

    • +2

@ veyrongatti - depends on what you want to drive…personally i drive a Samsung Galaxy SII and I wont change from that for a while.

We had so many people enquire about this handset before we got them in stock, that we decided to buy a heap and launch this promo deal.

Really, the deal is in the eye of the beholder… you're either going to want one of these handsets, or you're not :-)

  • +1

    $486.35 + $30 delivery + $30 warranty = $546
That's not really competitively priced for a grey-imported phone, is it?

    • That's for a 15 month warranty, 3 months over normal standard 12 months offer.
Can you find a better price without the extended warranty offer?

      • +1

Is this local warranty service or it will need to be sent overseas if warranty claim required?

        • +2

          Hi mediam0de,
For any warranty claims, our global terms are that the item needs to be returned to the w/house that it was dispatched from. So Aussie's will need to return to our RMA Team in HK - we provide all customers with our Fedex account details for return. So the return is free whilst item is under warranty.

        • +3

Don't you even read your own website?

          http://www.expansys.com.au/customer-service/#return

          "Returns:

          Expansys provides a 1-year limited repair warranty for our customers (devices carry 1 year warranty, batteries 6 months and other accessories do not carry any warranty) based on the following conditions;

If the goods are found to be faulty within 14 days customers are entitled for either a full refund or replacement. Any item may be returned for any reason within 14 days from the date of dispatch as long as it remains in a saleable condition. We will refund the price of the item to the customer. To return goods to Expansys please parcel them properly, including all originally provided manuals, accessories and packaging.

If the goods are found to be faulty after 14 days and within 3 months of purchase, the customer can send the faulty goods to our office, together with relevant invoice and Expansys will arrange for repair services at no cost to the customer. Shipping charges shall be borne by the customers.

If the goods are found to be faulty after 3 months and within 1 year of purchase, the customer can send the faulty goods to our office, together with relevant invoice and Expansys will arrange for repair services. There will be a nominal cost involved for the repair charges. Shipping charges shall be borne by the customers."

        • So you pay for both way shipping if there is an issue with the phone?

  • +2

Most Ozbargainers are cheap bastards like me and do not have a problem with the item or the company being based in Hong Kong. It's just that most of us just feel this is not good enough of a bargain.

I found two Hong Kong sellers (both with 10k feedback) on eBay selling this for AUD490 including shipping. Expansys sells it for $516.35. So if all these phones are from Hong Kong, i would rather pay AUD490. My personal opinion, not trying to offend anyone.

At least match their prices :D

    • +1

      Hi nsfx84 - some decent feedback :-)

Thanks very much!! We don't normally compete with eBay sellers. I trust that you've looked at their offer and their device, shipping + warranty infomation lines up? If so, then quite right. I'll check this out. Based on local SRPs and competitor pricings for our direct competitor sites, we created this pricing. This pricing offer was quite a lot less than some other top AU suppliers when we put this deal together last week - we didn't check ebay sellers however, so to be honest I'm not sure that their deals are better than ours. 10K +ve feedbacks - now that's impressive :-)

  • @ garratt torlesse

Sorry - I don't follow? What do you mean by " Don't you even read your own website? "

What is it that you are trying to say?

    • +2

I think what he is trying to say was, you told Mediam0de return is free whilst item is under warranty whereas the expansys websites states that shipping charges will be borne by the customers.

      • Hi again, any device under warranty will be treated as that:
1/ We will pay for return shipping (our Fedex is used)
2/ Repairs will be done at no cost to buyer, assuming that the cause of issue was not wear and tear etc. Standard warranty return rules - fair play.

    • +1

In your reply to mediam0de, you stated

"So the return is free whilst item is under warranty"

      On your website

"Shipping charges shall be borne by the customers."

      Which one is it?

      • +1

"There will be a nominal cost involved for the repair charges."

This bit also does not sound good. What is considered "nominal"?

        • Hi stanas, this is standard…if your item is out of warranty no company is going to fix it for free - none that I know of.

        • +2

I'll look into re writing the terms on our site to make this a bit clearer for you :-)

        • +2

"If the goods are found to be faulty after 3 months and within 1 year of purchase, the customer can send the faulty goods to our office, together with relevant invoice and Expansys will arrange for repair services. There will be a nominal cost involved for the repair charges. Shipping charges shall be borne by the customers."

Between 3 month and 1 year is still under warranty, so why the nominal cost?

In any case, you better look into your terms, and not just "rewrite" them. But I guess since you don't have any presence in Australia, these terms would not be enforceable under Australian law. Its pretty much just your word, and right now, it is not convincing.

      • Thanks for your clarification,
It's as I said, whilst the device is under warranty our buyers do NOT pay for return shipping.
Outside of warranty, shipping needs to be paid by the buyer - this is standard.

        • and we offer an extended warranty - $30 AUD for 15months. Thx

        • +1

          Rep,
Please try to answer, what users are asking. You said, there is no charge for shipping with in 15 months where as ur site says:

After 3 months and within 1 year.
"There will be a nominal cost involved for the repair charges."

This bit also does not sound good. What is considered "nominal"? People are asking why nominal charges, what does warranty cover.

They are not asking charges after warranty periods. After 3 months is within warranty.

  • -4

    At gagans and garratt,

I've made it quite clear that it's an extended warranty option for $30.00 AUD
Our standard warranty is 3 months as noted in the terms.

I'm not sure what more you seek? It's all noted there and I have gone out of my way to answer every question posted today.

Nominal = if your item needs to be repaired outside of warranty there will be "nominal charges" of which we can not disclose, as with all due respect, how could we know the charges in advance when these issues will be examined on a case by case scenario?

    • +4

You had previously mentioned that your standard warranty is 12 months, in an above post.

      ExpansysDoesIT

That's for a 15 month warranty, 3 months over normal standard 12 months offer.
Can you find a better price without the extended warranty offer?

Extended warranty is $30 for 15 months.

Between the 3rd month and 12th month of the standard warranty, why would there be a nominal cost to repair the device if it's under warranty? Wouldn't the nominal cost exist AFTER the 12th/15th month (if extended warranty is purchased).

      • Hi hfhf,

Yes that's true. Please see my reply to mediam0de below - I trust that this answers your question in some detail. If not, please feel welcome to contact me and I'll do my best to respond in a timely, detailed manner for you.

        Thx

    @ garratt,

For someone who is not interested in the deal, you sure do ask a lot of questions :-) and we are happy to answer these where possible.

I will check again tomorrow for any further questions and will do my best to answer your questions to the best of my ability then.

Thx for your time and questions tonight everyone.

    I'm signing off, back tomorrow.

For someone trying to seal a deal, your comment was unprofessional, patronising and uncalled for.

Whilst we appreciate the fact that you are trying to answer questions to the best of your knowledge. You should probably think about why you are being bombarded with these queries?

      1) Your warranty shipping answers are unclear. You claim that you are correct, yet your website shows otherwise. Your company is not based locally as acknowledged by yourself. Why do you think that anybody would fork out $$$ when your own information is conflicting? Would this not justify questions until we are clear?

      2) Grey imports are sold and delivered outside of Australia hence no tax and no local warranty. Therefore it should be cheaper than any other products imported into Australia to be sold locally. You should be very clear about that. Garratt was merely trying to highlight this fact for everyone. Again your answers were patronising

      3) Expansys were ok prior to local Australian office being shut down. After that, your company had some less than satisfactory sales and service reviews. Do a search on the Whirlpool forums. You might then understand why you seem to need to answer more questions than usual. This is only natural when customers are not confident in your services.

This being a fairly new product, so I do agree that it is a good price as everything new is always expensive. However, your sales and service methods with conflicting information is not ideal, I do not feel confident buying it from you.

        Hi mediam0de,

        Thanks for your note.

I'm not actually trying to seal a deal. I posted this deal because I thought that OzBargainers would benefit from it as we just launched this promo today. I am not a sales person, I only posted this because we have had so many people contact us about this phone lately, asking when we would have it and how much we'd be selling it for.

I've re read my comments and to be honest, I'm not sure how I've come across as patronising, but I take that on board and apologise wholeheartedly, as it certainly wasn't my endeavour to be so.
Honestly, I'm not sure why our domain has anything to do with this deal and I stand my ground when I offer that I'd be happy to have a phone / offline conversation about how we have an au. domain. I really didn't think it was relevant to this page (?)

I'd also like to take this opportunity to note the following:

I've checked out our Terms and Conditions and what you say is correct. It seems that they have not been updated since the 3 month warranty was launched (it was only very recently launched) I was not aware that the Ts+ Cs did not match up with our 3 month warranty offer. The 3 month warranty offer has only just come into play, and I did not realise that this was not reflected on the site, until reading your comments - so we've all learnt something today! I have already sent a request to have the Terms + Conditions updated onsite urgently this evening, to ensure that they are correct and completely reflective of the current offer ASAP to reduce the chance of any further confusion/ conflict of information provision. If you check the site in a few days, I hope that you will be able to see that this has happened. I will personally be keeping an eye on this.

I'd like to respond to your questions:

        1) To confirm and clarify, Expansys now offers a 3 month warranty (AU standard is 12 month) when I say AU standard I mean standard, as an Aussie, I say this as a general comment as it's my personal belief that the AU mobile phone warranty cover is 12 months as this is what I know. So, Expansys buyers can have the option to increase their warranty above the normal 'standard' AU warranty of 12 months, if they wish to 15 months. By doing so, the warranty will increase from 3 months to 15 months. During the time of the warranty period (either 3 months, or 15 months if extended warranty is taken) if anything goes wrong with the device, Expansys will pay for shipping back to base. If repairs are required and the device is within warranty, it will be repaired / replaced (within reason and specific time frame set FOC to buyer). After 3 months, or after 15 months (which ever warranty period applies) if something goes wrong + device is outside of warranty, then shipping to return the item will be at the cost of our buyer. To be honest, most of our customers have issues after the first 12 months anyway, which is one of the reasons why we've decided to offer this warranty format. Naturally this is not a legal document, I'm writing it for clarification merely at this point. I hope to see some detailed notes along these lines onsite soon as already noted. I apologise for any inconvenience / confusion along these re the Ts + Cs in this regard.

        2) Unfortunately it's not possible for Expansys to offer a local warranty at this time, a back to base warranty is the current offer and to be honest, we don't see a great deal of returns to justify setting this up on a local country level for all of the countries that we operate into. Re being cheaper, based on our global buy price, I truly believe this to be a great deal for this new to market release item. Re taxes, we work within local tax guidelines were possible and the Australian Government's GST threshold rule ($1000 AUD) is key to the benefit of our customers. We send all devices by a courier service always (either FedEx or DHL) and do not mark up delivery costs in this regard, in order to try to keep the costs down. Something that many buyers don't know is that many of our units come from our warehouse in Montpellier and we wear the transfer costs for this. Our HK office is the local distribution hub for our Asian region, so Australia is now serviced from here.

        3) I wasn't working at Expansys at that time, but I am very familiar with what happened, being in Australia at the time and then when I commenced work at Expansys. It was sad to lose the local presence, however this was a necessary business decision from my understanding. I've read the reviews, some over and over and yes, quite right, there was a time when service was disappointing and I wont make any excuses for that. The urls to review related posts that have been pasted here today highlight that fact and I am well aware of each of them. If you look at the dates on these reviews you will see that many of these are from 2009. Some are more recent, I believe that the last post there was in May of this year, which is when several of us new peeps started at the company with the key focus of improvement. So I trust that this means that we have improved and will continue to improve always, for the betterment of our buyers.

We have been working really hard to improve our business - everything from customer service, to products in stock, and various other key areas, that were noted as being issue areas for our buyers. As a result, complaints have decreased and we have started to build much better relationships with our buyers, many of them becoming repeat, satisfied clients.

Whilst it was not my intention to write an essay and I do feel that I have got carried away here, I want to note that we are aware that Expansys' service and customer experience has been far from great in the past. This is to the point that our Asia Pacific Hub has had a massive makeover to deal with this sort of break down. Over recent months Expansys has employed new staff and has taken on board initiatives to improve it's customer service promise and customer purchase experience. So, I mean this when I say that I understand where you are coming from and I have taken everyone's comments on board today.

I really appreciate the feedback and questions that everyone has noted (I did note that earlier, and I did mean that, albeit it seems that my thank you was taken more as a sarcastic note, again this was not my endeavour) I am one of the individuals leading our customer service improvement team, so you can be rest assured of that fact.

I'm glad that you posted your note, as it has given me the opportunity to apologise at least, if you felt that I came across in anything but a positive tone, and to try to at least set the story straight re the warranty and current T's + Cs. This was not meant as a free advertising seek - we have a media budget for that, I truly thought that it was a good deal as I saw some local competitor's price point offers last week and this promotional price is comparatively lower.

I hope that this clarifies and welcome and further questions, or comments.
        Thx.

To be honest this is not a noteworthy deal so shouldn't really be posted… It is quite easy to find better prices on eBay from sellers who have a good amount of positive history.

I am not going to neg it as I think you are learning the ropes, though even if a deal is a few dollars cheaper than everyone (which it isn't), it doesn't mean it should be on ozbargain.

    • +2

exactly, ozbargain is for bargains, not for free advertisement.

besides questions have to be asked

especially when feedback on whirlpool is pretty crap.

      • Hi Garratt,
Fair call, please note my recent reply to mediam0de.
It was not my intention to be patronising - so sorry if I came across that way :-(
I have tried to offer as much detail as possible just now in my direct note to mediam0de.
If you still have questions / comments please don't hesitate.
        Thx

    • Hi mres11,

Thanks for your comment - I've taken that on board. I don't envisage that we be posting any more discounted offers in OzBargains in the near future.

      Thx

    • Thanks mres11,

      Appreciate that :-)

Thx for your comments - all taken on board.

Be careful of expansys, it took me about 3 months and countless emails and phone calls to them to finally get my GST refunded to me.

    • Hi Housecat,
I'm very sorry to hear about your negative experience. I have no idea why you would need GST to be refunded as we should not have charged it if your order was less than $1000 AUD? All the same, I hope that you were at least able to get this matter resolved.
Sorry for the inconvenience at that time.
      Thx for your comment.

  • +1

Lol! Expansys is getting Pwned by the Ozbargainers. Good on ya fellas.

    • Yes SpaceNinja,

This seems to be the case!

  • +2

Please note that Standard warranty as per Rep is only 3 months ( as compared to standard 1 year on any new phone bought in Aus) and you pay extra 30 dollars to get 15 months warranty.
so total cost to the phone to get 1 years + 3 months warranty = 516.35+30 = 546.35

    • That's correct.

Buyers can opt for 15 month warranty (in place of 3 month warranty) for an additional $30 AU.

      Thx

  • Hi hfhf, re: your post:

"Strangely, a WHOIS revealed a VIC BN and an ACN which are not within the records in ATO. In the event where issues occur, this is probably what's going to happen. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1136869 "

That feed is from 2009 - we are now almost at the end of 2011. Re your WHOIS note: Expansys had a business presence in Victoria sometime ago, this is probably what you've come across? Honestly, I can't be sure, as I wasn't around at the time and I'm not sure exactly what you're looking at.

    Thx

    • The whois record is current, if its incorrect you better contact your registar to update your details. It will be interesting to see if they let you keep the domain since you no longer operates in Australia.per se.

Btw that wp thread might have start two years ago, the latest posts were from two month ago.

Hello rep, you seem to commenting excessively on this deal..

If it was such a good deal, people would go buy it..
