Are blue slips still required for NSW to NSW rego transfer?

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a second hand car. It's currently NSW registered and will remain NSW registered. Reading the Service NSW website about Notice of Disposal and Transfer a Vehicle registration there is no mention of blueslips. Are blueslips no longer required? It's been >10yrs since I've bought a second hand car when getting a blueships was a pain in the ar$e selling a modified 4WD.

I know transferring an interstate vehicle requires a blueslip.

TIA.

  • Blue slip is for unregistered vehicles only. To transfer registration, you only need to fill out the transfer of registration details on the back of the registration papers or go to the RMS and transfer it there.

You can fill out the Transfer of Registration (Mod: corrected URL) form before you go in.

The buyer/seller can actually do it online. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/transfer/index…

I sold my car to someone from the ACT and was required to hand in the form in person at a service centre. Annoying as they got a speeding fine and it came to me. Fortunately, I took a photo of their licence so I could transfer the blame back to them.

Was just updating my comment when you replied. But yes, can also be done online.

All good, no idea why you got downvoted though.

  • You also need a Gold Slip for a High Yield Investment Vehicle <tm> :)

I spent all of my money on eneloops so have to buy a 10yr old car.

  • Many years ago the NSW government brought a regulation in that all second hand vehicles sold need a roadworthy to be transferred to the new owner.

Many mechanical workshops refused to do it for obvious reasons. It was scrapped a few years after.

A blue slip in NSW is only required for an unregistered vehicle.
