Good deal if you haven't already used your voucher on one of the other 50 deals posted recently. Otherwise this is just RRP.

    • I was already planning on buying it so it is a great deal for me.

    • @Tacooo What game is that?

      • +4

        ALL of them

      • +1

One of the Modern Warfare games

        No Russian - CoD:MW2

I agree…Never ever pre-order games. It just feeds the hype beast without any actual assessment of if it's worth RRP or whatever discount you're getting. It just encourages releasing games half baked with promises of fixing with updates post release.

      • +1

Fair point. Gotta admit, I'm excited … it's been a long time since X-Wing Alliance. But if I think about it logically, I think there's a good chance this won't meet my expectations. Hard to beat Tie Fighter, really.

        • +1

that story line in Tie Fighter was so good, i really think if the empire had sent me to Endor i would have made the difference.

and what were the different 'levels' of being in the emporers 'inner circle' for want of my memory and better description

        • +1

Tie Fighter was amazing. It is my all time favourite Space fighter game.

          I hope this comes close.

Wouldn't you want to wait and see if its filled with lootboxes and PTW, its EA after all.

    • +1

You said it, wait for reviews, because it’s EA.

    • Its all but confirmed it won't be PTW. Might be some paid DLC or cosmetic stuff over time. Even BF2 for all the circus that it was for a while was not actually PTW (came within a whisker of it though, and deservedly copped a lot of negative attention).

This game is a big departure from EA's usual strategy it seems.
Obviously, they could change their mind and add facebook integration with popup advertisements and micro-transactions if they wanted…

But in my opinion, it looks like they're trialing their profits on "once and done" development:

"That's not to say we will never add anything, I guess we could, but it's not presented as a live service."
        Source

I would guess we'll only see small updates for fixing bugs or balancing of the ships etc.
If the game is wildly successful, then we might get some more maps as DLC. But I imagine that would come at least 6-12 months after launch.

        • +1

Given it's cross play, that alone to me indicates there will be some form of micro-transactions as that has become a bit of an industry norm. And as long as its DLC or cosmetic its fine IMO.

          • +1

@Xizor: They've officially specifically stated multiple times, in multiple places: (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) that they won't have any in-game/additional purchases available (micro-transactions, cosmetics, DLC etc).

Everything "in" this game, will only be available from activities within the game.

DLC might come with time, but not at launch (and I would assume not for 6-12 months after).

            • +2

@CharcoaI: Thanks, a few i had not seen there which are a lot more firmly stated than others. I sure hope there is DLC though. The reason i say that as from what we can see there appears to be quite a bit of headroom that was in the earlier star wars flight sims, even just in terms of ships, that does not appear to be here. But time will tell what/if/when anything additional eventuates.

            • +1

              @CharcoaI: But isn't there pre-order bonus DLC?

  • +2

EA have redeemed themselves a little with battlefront 2 which is now an excellent game,

      Greed overcomes all.

    • +1

I'm kinda prepared for rinse/repeat (but to a lesser degree on this one). I know my daughter loves Battlefront 2 (and I'm impressed with the quality of the graphics / gameplay myself now) that we'll most likely buy this one cheap, then wait for the game to mature more.

I've a feeling they've at least learned some lesson from SW:BF2 and will not have that massive dip in price prior to upping the quality back to an overall acceptable standard.
