Last time this promo ran there was an issue at my Wollies.

The total amount +10% extra didn't show up on the receipt when I paid for the GC. So they gave me the +10% in cash thinking it didn't work. Go to use the card and BAMM.. the 10% was also on the card. Double discount.. yes plz :P

This is cheating and doesn’t warrant cheers at all. if you got bonus you should have returned back the cash.

        What a whole $15?? 🤣🤣

Yes… my heart weeps for a massive corporation that under pays staff, farms and puts small local business under because they can't compete.

Injustice cannot be explained by doing another wrong action mate!

          • @ThisUniverse: Yeah and they might take it out of the pay of that checkout person. Not cool

Last time this promo was around, I bought 10 of the $200 gift cards and the Woolies I went to weren't willing to approve the sale initially. Even though it says limit 10 per customer and didn't state a spend cap, the checkout staff were making up some excuse that there was some spend cap. Had to get the store manager to march down and lecture me that they are not refundable and if I was getting scammed or asked by someone to buy these, I'd be proceeding at my own accord. At the end I managed to get the 10 x $200 gift cards but Woolies made me feel like I was doing the wrong thing. At the end of the day I do appreciate the extra measures they're taking to ensure people aren't getting scammed, but if you were planning to get as much as I did, understand that the current T&C's allows it. So if you get told there's some policy on spend cap for these Myer gift cards, unless they can show you the T&C, then you can buy whatever value up to 10 cards.

There are actually people got scammed by iTune gift cards. So maybe there were just making sure you are not scammed.

I love the scam lecture .
I'd like to give them a think lecture of why people are buying discounted cards only .
      Fairly obvious .

      • I get this lecture all the time too, at both Coles and Woolworths. I don't think there are many people at my local buying 10 lots of gift cards in one transaction.

I'd be wary of buying more than can be used in the very near future. If Myer go into receivership holders of gift cards will be the first to lose their money.

    • +7

I agree. Myer is in trouble and this is a way for them to raise money.

Same thing happened before Dick Smith went under, they were peddling gift cards at a discount, leaving the buyers with useless gift cards afterwards.

      • I remember the Dick Smith scam. What a rort that was, and I almost got a friend to buy it so he could save on a TV.

Why did this guy/girl got negged? Quite factual and reasonable comment.

      • +1

I happened to made 100% profit, coles exchange me for coles giftcards and cba chargeback on my transaction

  • -5

Myer has 10% off gift card sales around 4-5 times a year .
    Nothing unusual !

  • Can you use Wish egiftcards to buy these? (Not sure what the latest is on this)

    • +3

      No. Was banned from 2018.

      • Can these cards be used at Coles? Or buying a Coles Myer GC @ Myer?

        • Definitely not usable at Coles, also doubt Myer would allow you to purchase gift cards using gift cards.

          • @profeeder55: Okay. No go for me. QBE pulled their supplier insurance on both Myer and DJ.

Prob overthinking, but Myer is def not at its best shape.

            • @[Deactivated]: Myer and David Jones are the only high-end clothing store chains in Aus with not too much competition in that segment.. if they still struggle to survive, then there has to be something wrong with their business model, pricing, etc. Just my thought.

              • +1

@virhlpool: are they really high end? Does Myer even try to make people think that?

                • @ribbonsofnight: As far as departmental stores are concerned, that's the top category (not considering exclusive brand stores such as Zara etc).. the others are Target, Big W, K Mart which mainly sell their home brands only.. If they (Myer/ DJ) didn't try to make people think that way, then their prices won't be so rip-off. That's not the point though. With just two stores in that 'category', ideally they shouldn't struggle so much. My opinion.

Can these cards be used at Coles?

          No

buying a Coles Myer GC @ Myer?

YMMV - There's no POS limitation. Just depends on whether the staff will allow it.

          • @salmon123: So it is a maybe to convert Myer GC to ColesGroup GC at a myer store? Gonna try with the lowest amount possible tomorrow and then consider whether to stock up.

Yes - check the previous threads when myer GC was on sale.

is an extra 5% worth the hassle? Lots of websites selling coles cards for 5% off already…

              • @salmon123: $50 additional saving on $1000. And these are physical gift cards that can be gifted.

My years spent on ozb says yes.

Myer GC has limit of $500 per card. So, if anyone is game enough for $500x10, can work out quite well - additional $250 or a total of $500 saving.

Can you please gift me some, if you've in the giving mood?

My years spent on ozb says yes.

For me it's marginal. There's lots of risks with gift cards - shop goes out of business, lost card, etc.

@[Deactivated]: Hi, you are not allowed to buy gift card using gift card, except you buy myer gift card using myer gift card. I highly doubt it’s staff mistake because when i was working there, i’m not allowed to do it (tried it myself before) lmao

                    @nguyentran:

except you buy myer gift card using myer gift card

I highly doubt that's official policy. As far as I know, myer gift cards have a 3 year expiry. Allowing myer gift card purchase with myer gift cards would let you indefinitely extend the expiry date.

i’m not allowed to do it (tried it myself before)

Who denied you? Presumably another team member who was serving you? As I said, there's no POS limitation.

Best to try at a "concession counter", where the staff aren't myer employees and probably not trained up on all the policies.

  • Do people still buy gift cards when their value could be worth nothing if the company goes under.

Would they sell enough of these things to raise large amounts of cash or would it just be a minor amount sold.

    • Would they sell enough of these things to raise large amounts of cash or would it just be a minor amount sold.

Anecdotally, Woolworths must sell tens of millions of ebay cards during a promotion. Blank cards are literally impossible to find around busy Sydney stores.

Myer/david jones cards don't seem to be nearly as popular. I see plenty of stock on the shelves during promotion periods.

I think Uber gift cards are the only ones I've seen as popular at ebay cards, but that might've been a 20% discount and they might've started with fewer blanks.

      • Haven’t seen any davidjones one would love a few thousand

        • AMEX had a deal recently where you got 15% back for a $100 purchase from DJ's. I purchased their GC and got the 15%.

    That's 9.09% discount.. not bad!
