Bit high price for low res. + this:

A complete refurbishment was not required, as these items have not been used or sold to end user customers. However some units may have been used for display purposes prior to Grays Online receiving them.

Potential to be dinged around a bit while packed/unpacked and on display? Plus older hardware in them from being sent, potentially displayed, returned, changed, re-sent.

They come with a 12 month warrenty - I'd want a 24 for something like this.

    • I trust they'd ship new first… late comers might get displays…?

(Or would they ship displays to, eg, bush / outback addresses…? :-/

      • I doubt they'd be able to tell the diff between the two. It's not like retailers would mark the box with 'Display model' or anything. They'd just stuff them back in and return them.

  • If they're like this:

they might have 64-bit Windows (needed for 8gb RAM)

  • i did some research on the site
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1192443
seems dodgy. Has anyone bought something from the site?

    • Yep, grays are perfectly safe - I've spent over $2k on there.

I've also bought one of these laptops a couple months ago - they heat up like crazy and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone wanting to play games.

    • Grays have been around over a decade and while they've had some hiccups they're overall a reliable company.

      • If you don't mind paying over inflated postage costs. Sometimes items can be had for bargain prices though - so sometimes it's worth it. (my 2 cents worth)

  • i think the lenovo ideapad Y560p is a better value, 699 after rebate for lenovo quality and extra 4 GB of RAM

    Some information for everyone:

The 'reworked' part of these is because HP has recalled these models, and have had to replace the motherboard with a replacement after Intel's chipset had a bug causing the first hard drive plugged into a SATA port to slowly die.

They come brand new, me and a mate both have one and they've been going fine for the few months we've had them.

Although, under any gaming load they heat up like crazy - seriously hot and the fans are not big enough to push all that air out. If you live somewehre cooler than I do (Townsville, QLD) then it may not be as bad.

    • So you're a North Queensland Gecko?

jk - thanks for the good info.
