That's what my grandpa always used to offer me after doing yard work and sweating "You want some salt water?" "No gramps, I'm okay…"

Because you lose electrolytes when you're dehydrated?

The main issue is the lack of water, not electrolytes, unless you are running a marathon.

What about hangovers. Asking for a friend.

or sick with gastro and leaking out both ends. Doctors commonly recommend keeping up some electrolyte intake along with water when you have gastro. https://theconversation.com/health-check-what-to-eat-and-dri….

      Hi JV,

When you have diarrhoea you lose both electrolytes and water. Some of the normal ways (sodium transporters) used to absorb salt and water don't work.

Adding small amounts of sodium, glucose and other electrolytes enhance your ability to absorb electrolytes and water through other transporters which are not affected by the virus or whatever is causing the diarrhoea.

      Cheers
      DS

          Depends on severity of gastro.
But especially for kids proper ORS is important

            Depends on severity of gastro.

Most people take this for a hangover.
Water is much cheaper and pretty much just as effective.

If you have severe gastro, especially for a young kid, you should be seeing your GP, not taking off the shelf stuff from Woolies.

@jv: Hydralyte and similar products are recommended as appropriate treatment in some situations.
Obviously one should seek medical advice in these situations.

But you writing this off as "off the shelf" and "same as water" is incorrect. Also dangerous, if people believe what you say.

              Please read this https://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Dehydration/
It actually says buying this/or alternatives from the supermarket is the best option if your kid is dehydrated.

              Please take your trolling elsewhere.

Aldi had 60 tablets for $12.99 last week and if I am not mistaken it makes 30 serves. Much better value for money. My local Aldi still had these yesterday so grabbed 3.

    https://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/aldi-catalogue-special-bu…

Aldi - really pushing the boundary for copyright / plagiarism on the packaging too (like a lot of their products).

    • All arent created equal. How are thee compared? cause the gastrolight ones at CW are terrible compared and much cheaper

      • I could not tell you how they compare but I suspect they would be pretty close. I take them purely for hydration after a run instead of sports drinks.

    • Link not working.

      Catalogue missing.

If you've had a big night out, have a glass of Hydralyte before bed and then immediately when you wake up, followed by another glass of plain water. It's amazing how much it'll suppress your hangover - I've sworn by it for years.

This is a good deal and works out to 70c per serve, however when it's not half price, I find the 3 packs of Hydralyte tablet tubes at Chemist Warehouse are the best value. You get 3 tubes with 20 tablets for $26.99. An equivalent serving to the sachet packs listed in this deal is 2 tablets per 200mL of water, so the price ends up being 90c per serving. Not as good as this deal, but probably the best value when there are no Hydralyte specials available.

    Good deal OP

    • Good tip

    • +3

The ALDI knock off of Hydralyte has identical ingredients and can be had for ~$5 tube every day. They recently had a 3 pack that was even cheaper.

      • +1

ALDI Brand used to be my go to, but I've been to 6 stores within a 30km radius of my house and none of them have had any stock years now. I thought it was discontinued.

        Maybe I'm just unlucky.

    • One sachet a glass right?

    • I find myself having bad gastro and going to the toilet a lot then drinking a lot I might try this.

  • hot tip, mix this with vodka. thank me tomorrow.

  • What's the ingredients? Not just the active ingredients

      What's the ingredients?

sodium chloride and glucose, so basically salt and sugar.

Not a bad deal but Aldi cheaper.

Read the label people. The magical "electrolytes" contained here are just a smidge of sodium and potassium. You don't need to pay this much.

You can mix your own from a product known as "lite salt" and a nip of lemon juice. And buy a magnesium powder supplement which is a pretty good electrolyte not included here.

    • Didn't think about adding lemon juice, nice idea. I use the recipe I posted below while I am on extended fasts but I like the idea of a lemon flavoured hangover cure.

  • You can get the SIS 20 hydration tablets for <$7 on Amazon.

Each tablets provides 500ml of hydration when mixed with water

If you want to go next level in value hydration:

Snake Juice recipe per 2L water:
Potassium Chloride Powder = 1 tsp
Himalayan Pink Salt = 1/2 tsp
    Baking Soda = 1 tsp
Magnesium Sulphate (Optional) = 1/2 tsp (Epsom Salts but must be food grade)

    My modification:
Diet Rite Lite Salt = 1.5 tsp (Woolies or Coles)
    Baking Soda = 1 tsp
    Magnesium Chloride = 1/2 tsp
You can get the magnesium from health food stores, just make sure it is food or pharmaceutical grade. I couldn't find food grade Epsom so just went with this.

Yes it tastes like salty water but it is ridiculously cheap and gives you everything your body needs to rehydrate and repair.

  • +2

I do not get the price for tiny amount of salt and glucose with artificial flavor.

put it in your protein shake for insta-vomit results

  • This might help when I have bad chilli and spicy food days.

Some nights it's like a trip to the toilet every 15 minutes then I drink a litre of water or soft drink.

  • Thanks OP. Needed this and picked some up right before my local store closed last night and they'd already taken the 1/2 price special ticket off. The price is back to normal today.
