Free Python course. Watched a few lectures and seems to be pretty good and the guys teaching are quite knowledgeable. Definitely recommend it for free.

Is Udemy really worth your time? Seems like too many crap courses making the site more like a scam. They always have a sale - hmmm that’s really concerning. What’s the quality like? Do they verify the credentials that the instructors say they have? How often are the courses reviewed for quality and correctness?

    • Udemy is a site where anyone can create a course. The individual users set the sale terms so they make a discount or give the course away free, normally the free giveaway is in the hopes someone actually does the course and leaves good review so when it's not on sale people might pay to do the course.

I don't think courses are reviewed at all unless they're reported for whatever reason. They let you preview any course for free though so you have some idea if it's worth taking or not.

    • Udemy is like the youtube of eDuCaTiOn

    • In my experience there are a few good courses, usually with sales in the tens of thousands and a copy easily accessible via other means. However the majority of them are pretty meh.

I have done courses on there where I have gained way more knowledge than through the official learning platforms/courses. I can see how it would be very hit and miss but if you find a good author it can be very valuable.

  • For those looking to get a job, it's pretty useful. You make regular income, which helps you acquire goods and services.

  • Weird it says free but then $12.99 when I go to cart?

Edit: my bad, it was trying to use a previously applied promo code.

Obviously, there are much better courses. Pay $15 and continue those rather than wasting time on non-popular ones! Time is more valuable!

    • Which are the better ones in your opinion? I’d really like to flip my career to data science and this seemed ideal.

Do you mind pointing us to the much better courses you have? Like you said, time is valuable.

      Hi guys,

Courses by Jose Portilla are great:

There are other good-selling ones as well; But he is the best in my opinion.

      • Thanks, @mah65!

I also have no idea how to tag other OzB users. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:formatting doesn't help.

      • I logged in just to +1 this comment. Jose Portilla is an amazing teacher and his courses are sensational value at <$15 each. I've completed his SQL bootcamp and two python courses. Highly recommend.

  • as OP said, Watched a few lectures and seems to be pretty good and the guys teaching are quite knowledgeable. Definitely recommend it for free.

Style is like learning something new from one of your colleagues(who has a bit of Turkish accent - but definitely not hard to understand) rather than from a boring teacher..
