Free - COVID-19 Visitor Record Keeping - Restaurants, Cafes, Food Courts and Others @ GuestTrack

Visitor Record keeping is required by NSW, VIC and QLD during COVID-19. Instead of forcing my customers to use a shared pen in writing down their name and mobile, I just found this free app that allows customers to record on their own mobile.

The few that I have been to just collect the details when you book, which is how they are managing the patron numbers.

slightly OT, but i don't quite get why people didn't just bring their own pen.

even before the pandemic, i'd use my own pen to sign for click & collect orders, for example (no kidding, some people were offended when i used my own pen)

If I put it in my pants, the pen can either leak or go through the pocket.

If I put it in my breast pocket it might leak or scratch the phone.

I do have a gaming wallet, meant for a DS that I use for keys so they don't poke through my pants. I could put it in that I suppose.

      Curious how you keep yours.

      • in my car, mainly.
in my backpack or shoulder bag, when i used to take public transport.
i also have a pocket within my pants pocket for pens/pocket knives etc but usually have my wifi hotspot in there.

i only use retractable pens in the house; capped pens everywhere else

        • Ok thanks. I haven't kept them in my pants for a very long time. It only takes one leak and a messed up pair to put you off. If I go out I don't always have a backpack, but a small pen in that nintendo DS wallet is a good idea I think. Will have to do that.

          • @syousef: i used to have one of those victorinox swiss army knives that had a tiny pen instead of the toothpick. remarkably, it worked every time but wasn't very practical to use.

Telescopic pens are neat and they clip into your standard wallet. There's some at Kinokuniya if you're in Sydney.

…still ROFL… I am a "Lefty" and experience the same issue. As a lefty, my preferred pens which I carry with me at all times (with a spare in my backpack) are gel-writers which create two issues.

      1. Your issue above where people are offended when I use my own pen.
        or
      2. (pre-COVID-19 days) "This is nice isn't it" as they go to pocket my pen and I have wrestle it back from them. I even made a bet with a Doctor's receptionist that the pen she claimed was hers wasn't when I quoted the barcode number written on the side to prove ownership (I have purchased the same brand and style tip for 25+ years).

Anyway, I hope with this app that you are able to opt in to receive the marketing which would inevitably follow with this type of app rather than finding that you can't opt out.

      • oh yes something about gel pens being magnets for the "borrowers."

i was always a germaphobe and nervous about others asking to borrow my pen (mainly other women with massive handbags that could hold a stationery store's worth of pens). tired of having to ask for my pen back — and then washing it — i started pretending to chew on my pen without actually chewing on it.

      • I find the gel pens dont dry quick enough, and I still smudge.

Fellow lefty, which pens does thou buy?

    • Or a pencil?
      They don't leak

      • +2

i only have a pen licence now, after some kid tattled on me in primary school and i lost my pencil licence for "cheating" by using a mechanical pencil (papermate pacer 300 it was)

And how is the data used?

    • +1

      It says from their website
"Your information will not be released to the public or shared with any third party except the government agency responsible to contact people who may have been exposed to COVID-19."

The developer of this app is an accounting software company. Data should be secure with this kind of company as they have to comply with certain data security standards

      • +3

You would be surprised how "secure" it is.

Not a concern for Melbourne restaurants and cafes right now…

But might worth having it prepared before Melbourne reopens.

  • Actually, in Victoria it is NOT LEGALLY REQUIRED that a person provides their details. The LEGAL requirement is only for the provider of the service (whether that be a restaurant, cafe, entertainment venue) - whatever the business - to REQUEST that anybody who attends the facility or venue for longer than fifteen minutes to provide their first name and contact number only (no other details). See Section 15, clause 4 of The Restricted Activity Directions (No 12) that came into force at 11:59pm on 8 July 2020 and replaced the Restricted Activity Directions (No 11).
