Best before 15th November - might be worth noting if you've got a small/medium dog that might not be able to get through 11kgs of dog food in a month :D

  • OK, What will it do for my dog??

    • I thought so….no answer!!! = nothing!!

Why have you not listed the BB date in the description? That's dishonest in my eyes.

  • They have done this deal before.

  • Will this also suit a Wet Dog? Sorry, just kidding, I actually have No Dog.

Given it expires in less than a month should definitely have made this very clear in the post, especially as it's such a large bag.

    Pretty bad form imo.

It's not particularly prominent in the actual webpage either.

Assume that if you buy organic dog food that you would want what's healthiest for your dog and so wouldn't want to give it expired food!

  • just a question. Would organic dog food (with less/no preservatives) be less likely to last after a "best before" date than some commercial dog foods?

    • if you're only concerned about shelf life, the commercial dog foods in supermarkets will outlast ANY organic product. hell, it'll probably still look the same in 10 years!!!

but the real question is do you want all that crap going into your dogs body?

here's a test, go look for a "best before" date on most of the commercial supermarket products…. you wont find one. so who knows how long its been sitting in the warehouse for?????

Comparing more comparable "premium dog food" Eukaneuba and Royal Canin have best before dates on the packets, and price wise that's more comparable to this product than supermarket varieties.

this is actually a pretty good deal…. let me explain why.

first ingredient listed is "organic chicken", then "chicken meal" as the second. a lot of 'quality' dog foods have the first ingredient listed as "chicken and chicken meal"… which makes a big difference to what you are actually feeding your dog.

and remember- pet food doesnt actually require a "best before" date…. as it's not for human consumption. any dog owner knows that dogs will eat some pretty crappy things (pun intended literally), so the fact that this product has a best before date shouldnt sway people from buying it. also, it doesnt say "used by"… so it's still going to be ok to feed your pets after the date.

half price for pet food that appears to be of very high quality (regardless of "best before" concerns), is still a bargain in my book. i feed my dogs eukanuba, so I'm set in my ways in terms of quality food for my pups…. but i wouldnt have an issue buying this product for them. i just dont need it right now because I have plenty already.

If someone is concerned with what goes into their dog (so they're considering organic) then they would also be concerned about being within the suggested best before period for the food.

Nobody said shelf life was the only thing to be concerned about.

Even if you have plenty of Eukaneuba for your dogs if you would buy this because it's "a pretty good deal" and if feeding it to dogs after the best before date isn't an issue, this shouldn't prevent you from stocking up.

  • Pssh, everyone knows that 'best before' is only a recommendation…

    :D

Good price for organic natural dog food.
Saw many sales for natural pet food recently due to short dated. They do have shorter best before date than commercial grade due to ingredients/preservatives.
It's a shame in Australia natural range (Artemis, Eaglepack, Canidae, Nutro etc) is not as popular as the commercial range (Eukanuba, Hills Science Diet), maybe because of lack of promotion as well as availability. They are about similar price with much better ingredients.
Hope those brands will stay in Australia market, the result on my dog is so much better than other dogs in same age which have been feeding commercial food.
Raw and fresh cooked food is still the best, unfortunately not many owners have the time to cook for their pets or cannot afford it.
