Buying New TV, Either LG C9 or LG CX

First time buying a tv, in anticipation for the new gen of consoles. I´ve done my homework on OLED and QLED, technically anything will beat my current TV and look extremely better but I´m torn on the OLED, even tho burn in is a bit of a concern and there´s no shop that covers it on their warranty, as far as I know.

I´ve been working my ass off on a second and a third job to make "enough" money during the school holidays as I want it asap. A LG C9 65" would be the dream and also affordable right now but for the life of me I cannot find any where I live, I alredy rang all major retailers.
The LG CX 65" is nearly 2k more than a C9 would cost. I have no problem waiting for black friday, cyber monday or any random price drop in between, the question is, what will be the aprox price by then on the CX model, or is there any probability that the C9 will be back in stock?

Can't help but am in the same position as you (looking for new TV to get the best out of PS4 Pro / PS5) so here for the replies !

Same situation as you, would definitely jump at the chance to buy a C9 but there’s no new stock anywhere… I saw a display model C9 at a JB Hifi but that’s always a risky proposition when it comes to OLEDs and not something I would recommend.

Guess we’ll have to wait till later in the year around November when the big discounts on the CX start to kick in. Based on the heavy C9 discounts at the end of last year as well as the fact that the CX is currently cheaper in its lifecycle vs when the C9 was at the same stage, I wouldn’t be surprised if a 65-inch CX got down to the $2700 mark.

    • Same, out of all the big retailers I got a call from myer offering a c9 display model… not worth it IMO

How much was the C9 when it first came out VS november sales? Cannot find much intel about that

C9 65 started off with an RRP of $6399 whereas the current CX 65 RRP is $5399 with most retailers offering for $4500 right now, though it got down to $4300 as part of EOFY sales.

Good guys had the C9 65 at ~$2800 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/505325) in December last year, and Videopro bettered it in Feb though via ebay plus at $2670 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/518461).

Based on that and the much lower starting RRP for the CX, I think it bodes well for those of us willing to wait till the end of the year to early next year.

        • Wow based on that it will definitely be worth it waiting to nov-dec. Thanks for the intel mate

        • I think it bodes well for those of us willing to wait till the end of the year to early next year.

There's rumours among the YT reviewers of panels like HDTVTest and StoptheFOMO that manufacturers are now moving to bi-yearly updates, so imo we won't see much of a price drop at all come Black Friday. Not to mention the damage Covid19 has done.

If any bargain sales were to happen it may be next year when the manufacturers make a push for 8K and want to clear out 4K stock. But even then its only Samsung at the moment making a push for 8K.

      • I got a C9 55 for 1900 at Good Guys about 3 months ago when they were clearing stock. I think it was one of the last new boxed ones available.

Was pretty much in the same situation but unfortunately have concluded that the C9 boat has long sailed. Had ordered a 65" from Myer instead of Appliances Online the very last time it was on sale to save an extra $50 which they cancelled. I really doubt there is any C9 stock left anywhere - everyone knows it's not a real upgrade so there's huge demand for it. Currently the stores are in no hurry to get rid of stock because they're all on backorder so you can only play the waiting game - when the next gens are coming?

I was salty about paying the $900 more for pretty much the same TV ($3600 vs $2700) so ended up ordering a 77" GX for a bit more than the 77" C9s were going for.

    • New gen most likely coming in November this year.

Damn mate enjoy your big ass tv that´s awesome!

  • About 1 week go I found out 3 Harvey Norman stores in NSW had stock of the 55" C9. One was Bathurst (1 unit), another was Parkes, and the name of the third town escapes me. I called the Bathurst store and they wanted $2,200 for it. Not a 65", but still. No idea if they're still available, either.

    • I would go for one of those if they would deliver (I´m in QLD). Don´t think they do tho

      • You could probably find a 55" somewhere.

        See this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/8695356/redir
        1) Go to your local HN
        2) ask them who still has stock
        3) go home and call the shop that still has stock
        4) google a courier company in that city and give them a call for a transportation quote to your address
        5) call HN once again, make the payment, advise who is collecting and when
        6) call back courier, make the payment and provide pickup and delivery details
        7) wait for the TV to be delivered to your place :)

        • I would never have thought of this. Gonna try and get it this way if there´s some stock left.

          thanks a lot!

    • So I rang Bathurst, and Parkes, they didn´t have any, only display model and a 65" for 3.400$ which they weren´t willing to negotiate, Parkes checked for any stock left, pointing me to Castle Hill, which don´t have any left either.

Also rang 3 different TGG shops in 3 different states which checked for any stock all around australia but no luck.

I guess it´s the waiting game for me.

      • TGG didn’t have any stock back in May, and Bing Lee either.

Instead of calling every HN store, just ask them to check their system and let you know which store has stock (probably at this stage all gone). They can see stock for an item across all stores.

I did that with HN, the first shop I called (Cairns) told me there wasn´t any stock in QLD so I asked if they could check for any stock out of QLD, he just gave me a quick no so I supposed he didn´t check, then I called couple shops in NSW which pointed me to other shops. Anyway, there´s some c9 around for a ridiculous price or display models.

          • @Bermudas: How much are they charging out of curiosity?

            • +1

@SuperFly 420: I came across 2 of them, one at 3.4k and another at 3.6k. I never asked about the display models

Wait until December. You'll get the CX for ~3 grand. This is the only OZB option.

  • Myer had the e9 this year for that price, maybe wait till next year then.

  • Got a 65 cx for 3800 hn 3 weeks ago

  • Im looking for a c9 as well. If not il just wait for the cx 48 inch until it comes down in price. I want it as a pc monitor

Bought a 65" CX from The Good Guys recently for $3500 and am very happy with it.

Here's a link to the receipt in case you want to try to price match. I found the negotiation very easy.

    • Much appreciated! How did you drop the price that much?

    • Thanks mate!

    • Interesting - got a very quick no from good guys in Victoria sadly, they said it was an internal promotion they were running.. but I'm skeptical. I shall keep trying!

      Well done!

      • I saw CptTerry's post on whirlpool and rang my local good guys store, they are happy to do $3500 on CX and $4100 on GX. Contemplating if GX is worth extra $600. Also confirmed GX comes with table stand and wall mount included.

Just had a bright idea - buy CX at lowest price I can negotiate with 28 Degrees credit card which has shoppers insurance on it.

Wait for maximum of 1 year when best sales are present (now not specific to retailer)

    Claim money back.

This is literally the point of the card.. how did I not think of this earlier.

65" CX this week woop woop!

    • Now you're thinking!

    • Price protection will be limited to a store advised deas and won't extend to a negotiated deal. For example currently CX 65 is listed over 4k in many places but you can negotiate one for $3500.
Then again what's the possibility of CX 65 selling for less than $2500. :)

      • Cheers for looking out for me :)

The Good Guys had a 10% promotion on Thursday and brought the price down to $4295, so got it delivered for $3865.

Fingers crossed it comes down to $3,000 in the next 12 months!

  • Would i be crazy to do something like this…

$2k for 3 months warranty on a 2019 panel? Not sure what the ACL says about refurbished products, I just know I wouldn’t be so brave.
