Can it read body temperature as well?

    • +10

      depends where you stick it

    • To help prevent someone burning their tongue?

    • -2

Without being too weird.. it would be good if a thermometer could support both food and body utility (subject to cleaning of course).

As its not often you need to measure your body temp, but it kind of sucks just to buy a thermometre for that one purpose

      • The probe looks really sharp, I'd be very careful when sticking it up somewhere on your person.

damn so it can read colder than anything known between -50200℃ (-58℉ 392℉ )

Instant read…. Within 2-3 seconds. Sounds pretty instant to me

yeah I have something similar to this and they are very quick though.

      • I used this exact thermometer yesterday and the measured temp of my beef ribs was climbing for around 10 seconds before eventually sorta settling. Not exactly instant

      • I have the same one and it seems instantaneous, that is: you switch it on, stick it in your food and get the reading. No waiting really.

@WillisAU That might be as well the heat slowly reaching inside. Or more general: temperature changing.

I guess if I needed super accuracy I wouldn't be looking at this cheap thing. I use it to check if my food passed 60 degrees and is safe to eat.

In my case it was beef ribs that had been on for 6+ hrs, so the temp wasnt climbing by the second

    • +1

More instant than my analogue version that you need to wait for the needle to slowly rise.

  • Of course this would go on special when my Prime trial ends :/

  • Kitchen and dining is 0% cashback, unfortunately.. correct me if I'm wrong that this is under that category

This was 10 before, you can do better OP

  • Is this actually a good thermometer for a novice bbqer? Just got a Weber baby Q and loving home cooked steaks but it’s a little inconsistent.

    • +1

Yep, perfectly fine mate. Should serve you well.

      • Do you reckon this is a good value buy at this price? I have done minimal research other than to see it was $10 earlier this year.

  • I have one of these, very happy with it. Probe is sharp and reads quickly. Paid $18 so I guess I need to hand in my ozbargain badge now

  • Says 17 now.

    • Use the code to lower it.

      • Thank you, i found that later, but i can only buy one.

    • It's alright mate they always lie sometimes.

  • Got one of these last month. Build quality is fairly meh - mine doesn’t turn on when the probe is flipped out like it’s supposed to (have to push a button to turn on instead, no big deal). “Instant read” can take 2/3 seconds or even up to 10+ since I’ve been using it.
It is fairly accurate though, measured a boiling pot of water at 99.5.

  • Aldi has a digital thermometer currently available for $9.99.
It has an in oven style probe, except says not not suitable for closed door use.
