This is still a pretty crap price for an inferior 2020 model FYI. But.. I can't see anyone with a better price. Even good guys commercial are charging 1033 for it.

    • I am looking a new 55" TV. Can you please let me know why this is a inferior model. Thanks.

        • +5

x9500h seems to be a lot more expensive than this rather than "few hundred more", I'd personally prefer hisense q8 or tcl c815 etc at this price range

        • +1

hahaha good one. x9500h is more than double the price. And if you're into gaming you want the 9500h NOT the cheaper x8000h. far out.

          • @arcticjuggernaut: X8000h has extremely low lag times and all your requirements for gaming. When the x9000h comes out. That would be a good choice for gaming too

        • Sub $800 then this would be good

        • +3

now that's a sick website. Comparisons for every possible metric you could ask for with displayed weightings for scores. Amazing.

          • -4

@Sporange: Yea it's been around for years tho…

          • +3

@Sporange: Only downside is that it's a US site and you start learning about all the amazing cheap TV's the Americans get that we don't.

      • I've got one of this tv's after upgrading from a 14yr old plasma. Maybe it's not the bees knees but for the price it's pretty good. Yes you can get better tv's spending hundreds more, but for the price, can't be beat. Very easy to use and hasn't skipped a beat.

For some reason Samsung has been lowering the quality of their 8000 models every year. The 2018 model(NU8000) was fantastic, last years RU8000 was a small step down, and this one(TU8000) is a small step down again. It's a huge shame.
Same thing seemed to have happened with with the Q6 models. My 2018 Q6 model seems on par with the current 2020 Q7model.
They seem to have poorer brightness, and colour reproduction. Even a loss of the 24p judder module. The only upgrade seems to be the inclusion of the 2.1 HDMI, and eARC, and Atmos inclusion.
In terms of colour/brightness this one is more similar to the 2018 7000 series.

$889.85 in my EPP store, may vary for others

      • Got this one last week from the employee portal and using 50$ promo for $839.85

      • could you please tell me what price the 43" is? thanks :)

        • +3

          43" is $662.35 and 50" is $733.85

    • +1

Last year $700-$800 average for 55” model, tv prices are shit atm, you’d be looking at 65” for this price, better off waiting few months for better deals

      • Whats happened to tv prices :/ even the runout models from last year if you can find any aren't a good price.

        • COVID, nobody is traveling and spending up on home entertainment.

          • +1

            @andysa: and a lot of factories are shutdown… supply/demand.

  • +3

Get CBA low rate card and buy this, it will cost you $795 after the cashback :)

    • You’ll have to buy something else for $5

      • $5 spent at Colworths.

  • I’m in the market for a new TV, but don’t want to spend too much. Would you guys recommend this or the TCL on the good guys website (there are two 65” for $900 and $1000) or the Aldi one this weekend?

    • +2

Have owned ours for 6 months, absolutely love it. Can easily recommend. Couldn't imagine Aldi tv being better. The smart menu is very easy to navigate. Just need at least a soundbar to improve the sound

    • +2

I'd say the TCL at this price point $700-$1000, would avoid the Aldi, just warranty etc would be frustrating. Samsung for anything above $1000

    • +1

check out tvs in store. im in the same boat. one feature i think is worth considering is local dimming. go in store and look at tvs from the side (if viewing angles are important to you)

    • -1

Just make sure you get external sound sorted + a fast android tv box so you don't have to put up with the slow menus

    • I can't find the 65" TCL for $900? Anyone have a link?

My relatives had the ALDI one but it got dead pixels after a few months. Eventually got a refund under warranty but they took ages to process the claim.

      • Sorry. Looks like that one is out of stock now.

  • +7

This one is more comparable to the RU7100 model from the previous year which was often under $800

  • +1

Bought tcl recently fro Costco 55 inches for 589$ , pretty happy. Now Looking to replace Aldi one for living with big size TCL QLED. 3 years warranty is a bonus too.

  • +5

Really disappointing that the entire Samsung range is inferior to their previous years model.

    • Not in all ways though. It is odd comparing say, the Q80R to the Q80T, surely you’d just make everything a little better in the new model. Some things are better in T, some things worse, odd. Least the pricing is reflecting the differences, though getting 2019 stock is proving difficult

      • Done quite a bit of reading on Samsung QLEDs today.

        2020 Q80T = 2019 Q70R.
        2020 Q90/95T = 2019 Q80/85R
        2020 Q800T = 2019 Q90R

Im thinking that the bells and whistles of the Q90R (ie 480 local dimming panels, for the better blacks) to be on their flagship 8K TV.

Was a bit disappointing as I was looking to get the Q90T (but only 120 local dimming panels).

        Either way, it’s super annoying.

    • +1

It's a bit misleading. Would the best way to compare Samsung TV's vs last years model be based on price? I still remember the year a particular series model dropped in price by 50% but now I'm thinking that it was an inferior TV.

      • Price is hard to compare completely due to our dollar shitting itself a bit too.

  • -1

I just bought it 2 weeks ago at full Price

    • +10

      Hand in your ozbargain badge

  • 65 inch needs to be this price and it still wouldn’t be a good tv, last years had more features, shame on samsungfor cutting our features

    • +1

Well we can boycott by not upvoting and not buying their TVs.

  • Just wondering how's the LG 86" 86UN8100PTB? This one's got native 120 Hz (LG TruMotion 200). It's expensive though $3795. LG reduced the refresh rate to 60 Hz on its 75" UN8100 but kept it 120 Hz on the 86".

  • In case anyone was wondering, Samsung student store:
    43"
    $764.25

    50"
    $846.75

    55"
    $1,026.75

    65"
    $1,274.25

    75"
    $1,941.75

    82"
    $2,954.25

    • If you had an option to buy Samsung 82" TU8000 for 2954.25 or LG 86" UN8100 for 2999.00 (both delivered prices) which one do you think would be the better choice?

  • FYI despite the website saying it is compatible with Google Assistant, it is not. Just Alexa and Bixby. (it does say may not be available at time of release in the fine print).

  • T-NKLUABC_1115.5
This is the upgrade firmware file name.(From samsung support page).
NKL is an external chipset, not the superior in-house Samsung chipset, and is used in mass market low end TVs. For this much price its better to steer off this TV.

  • Very glad I was able to grab an ru800 model at the beginning of the year. Much better than the 2020 version.

    • I was fairly unlucky with the RU8000 TV which otherwise is a good TV. I too was able to snag one a few months ago just before it got cleared. Mine came out faulty.

First issue - random restarts fixed by flashing the software by Samsung. Second one regular Clicking noise from both sides of the LED - most likely backlighting issue. Samsung classified it as Minor and offered repair was to replace the whole LED screen. I told them to profanity off (because it's a new TV) and didn't accept it as Minor because I feel it's Major. Went back to retailer with request to pursue… Still sitting tight - no outcome yet. Hoping not to end up with Fair Trading.

I know that retailer or Samsung doesn't have the stock to replace with the same older model. Will most likely have to pay the difference to get another (potentially inferior) model or fork out more to get an equivalent model from another brand.

Whenever there is an issue, Samsung really strings you along to the end of time and then some. Personal opinion is that I am going to avoid purchasing Samsung products and also make close friends and family members beware of the predicaments we have had with Samsung.

  • Anyone know how easy to install app (apk) with Samsung Smart TV? it's not run by Android so unsure if you can install app.

    • +1

Don't think you can do it…. it's locked down to Samsung App store

    • -1

You need to first install Android. For that step one is to return the Samsung TV and buy a Sony TV.

      • I was looking at TCL or Kogan as they are both using Android TV.

        • You could also consider getting an Android Box or Android Stick instead.

  • +2

I wonder everyone said TU8000 series is bad compared to old series, if so which one you recommend to buy for 50, 55 inch with good quality and similar price?

    • Try to find last years RU8000 series if you can. These main sellers (Samsung, LG) seem to be effectively monopolizing because of their size. (milking the cash-cow) It seems they will keep charging same money for downgraded products until people stop buying that particular line altogether .

  • Same price at The Good Guys.

  • How the picture quality of TCL in below deal compare to this Samsung? 9/10 or out beat completely?
