  • Good deal. Next cheapest is around $295 delivered. These phones are suppose to be quite durable, but otherwise i'd say the Galaxy S is a better option with a higher clocked CPU and better GPU.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3514&idPhone2=…

  • I am using it, its a great phone, you can even wash it under water when its dirty. Voice effect is great. The only pain in the ass is the screen, you almost cannot see anything under strong sunshine, to a durable phone which most of time you carry it outside is such unbearable.

  • +1

Equally spec-ed phone Acer Liquid Metal - $128 at JBHiFi.. I personally have one, and its superb, no-complains.

    • +5

but is it waterproof? ruggerised phones usually comes at a hefty price premium

    • +2

      Unfortunately your Acer is:

      1. an Acer
      2. a Scorpion CPU not Cortex
      3. No onboard memory
      4. Not Durable, Cheap plastics
      5. No radio
      6. No Proximity sensor
      7. Heavier.. O.o
      8. Yours is PRE-Paid and locked to Telstra i think…

No where NEAR as good in specs…

      • +5

The acer is no where near this price.

        • +2

The acer is no where near this dust proof / water resistant either.

The key selling point of this phone is its ruggedised.

All other specs are secondary, the Liquid E and Defy offers completely different value propositions. If your criteria is water proof. The Defy is a million times better than the iPhone4S, Galaxy S2, etc.

Obviously, if you don't care about water proofing etc. The Acer is a better deal, but the two ain't that comparable.

          @garratt torlesse

I agree, just made that comment, because he only listed the cons about the acer.

        • Yes it is, the Acer costs $128 + $100 unlock fee(Telstra) = $228… extra $50 get urself a Moto. lol

        1. what's so bad about acer?
        2. i'll give you that.
        3. 512 mb onboard memory :) with micro sd card support, can use link2sd to move all my apps to my sd card.
        4. It comes with a case.
        5. It has radio.
        6. Why would you need a proximity sensor?
        7. I'll give you that.
        8. You can easily unlock it, I'm using pennytel on my acer liquid mt at the moment.

It has some better specs such as having HSDPA, 14.4mbps and is upgradable to gingerbread, while the defy is at 7.2mbps and is stuck at froyo.

        • The screen visibility of the Acer is pretty poor in sunlight. Just something to keep in mind when deciding between the Acer's TFT screen or an AMOLED or SLCD phone.

        • a) of course the Acer has a proximity sensor. Any touch-screen phone would have problems otherwise.
          b) the Acer is barely readable in sunlight, but plenty of TFT displays are better. They are "transflective".

Both decent phones. Price aside, the most important factor would be 850 vs 900 MHz, unless you want neither.

          1. we all know Acer is crap at making Mobiles…
          2. Its a FACT… lol
          3. No it does NOT !, you use your SD card as memory, its got the same 512 MB ram and 512 ROM.
          4. Who cares about a case ? O.o
          5. It doesn't have radio…, prove it !
          6. To auto-adjust brightness…
          7. Again its a FACT… lol
          8. You can root or hack anything illegally, legally this is unlocked.

The 14.4Mbps is useless in Aus… LOL
Anything can be upgraded from Froyo…

          Your reasons lacked substance. :P

      • I'll give you a +ve for being an Acer and having cheap plastics. Though this phone is unlock able for free.

        1. Acer vs Motorola - Motorola isn't that good either (Motorola's Android customisation isn't well liked).
        2. Scorpion CPU is based on the ARMv7-based Cortex-A8 core.
        3. You mean not much free phone memory? Okay, that's a fair point.
        4. Defy is water-resistant. So, yes, it is tougher.
        5. Liquid Metal has radio.
        6. Liquid Metal has proximity sensor.
        7. Yes, it is 15% heavier.
        8. Can be unlocked relatively easy.

        How about these?
        A. HSPA+ 14.4 (Telstra NextG) - vs HSDPA 7.2 (YesG). Pretty sure Liquid MT will work fine on Optus network in most areas. I doubt you can say the same for Motorola Defy on Telstra network.
        B. Half price ($128 vs $259) - actually less than half price.
        C. Defy can only take 480p video. Liquid Metal can do 720p.

Overall, Defy is a better phone. However, neither is really that good… hence the price drop. Now that Apple has released iPhone 4S, I think it pretty much means single core phones will/should be heavily discounted.

I bought two Liquid metals at JB unbeatable for the price, unlocked/upgraded easy (free) Battery life and aftermarket gear is where it falls short. Elijah is wrong on half of his statements.
This Defy deal isn't too shabby either!

      • -4

No you did not…, Telstra/JB Hifi has an Unlock fee of $100 on this baby. Wht a liar ! lol

        • Official Acer firmware for Australia is available on their website for download and upgrade. Is it illeagle?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motorola_Defy_Plus_in_a_gl…

PS: Double check if this is the same before you drown it.

    • +5

Watch out! Defy+ (plus) is waterproof to 1m, Defy is only water resistant. There's a good chance this would kill your phone.

  • +2

$259 vs $128 is quite a big difference in price especially when you consider you can buy a cheap android phone for <$30!

    • Agree that the Acer is great for the price but under $30 for an Android phone? BS

    • -4

Telstra unlock fee for the Acer is $100…

  • +1

One plus for me about the defy is it's size. Same size 3.7 screen as a htc but much smaller overall size, good size to put in your pocket.

  • -7

Beware defy has very high ear speaker failure rate. I am neging it on this base. nothing wrong with price. please check the whirlpool link below

The old batch have lots issue, the new one much better.

14 Days return policy if you not happy with product, and 12 months warranty.

    • +1

Read the forums mate that batch was 2010…, your neg was for a silly reason not even related to the seller…

  • I'm waiting for an unlocked defy+ from http://www.clove.co.uk at the moment. It was $350AUD delivered which was the best price I found if you're credit card has low foreign transfer fees.

A mate had his Galaxy S2 stop working when he went jogging with it. Telsra were reluctant to honour the warranty.

    Rugged=good.

    • My Defy+ arrived last night. It's light enough and fast enough and it went jogging with me this morning. It was happy to connect to the telstra EDGE network but has no NextG. If I wasn't in Tasmania I'd use a cheap optus reseller and use YesG.

  • Can anyone clarify the difference between the "free shipping" and other options (eParcel) on the postage quote?
