Also a current deal gets you a free MSI G27CQ4 monitor (2560x1440p, 165hz, 27" curved free sync monitor)

Only things I'd note are you probably want more RAM and the PSU brand isn't mentioned - so it's probably not top tier.

      • +1

Still a bit overpriced for $2639, but with the M+KB and Monitor its okayish. (If you bought this for $3300 at any point, you got scammed)

You wont need more RAM than 16GB, but the single stick is a bit awkward.

And yeah, if they dont mention the brand of the PSU its usually a fire hazard.

      • Apparently only one slot for ram.
Also the processor is i7-9700F not the 9700K.

Single slot ram kills it I suppose.

They just had their 10% off Mac sale.

  • Damn, reckon if I bought another one they'd return the one I purchased a couple weeks ago at full price?

    • +1

I think JBHiFi will refund the difference if you take your invoice back to them, pretty straight forward. No need to return it.

      • That would be good, can anyone that works for JB confirm this?

        • My mum was able to do it after 2 weeks with her Macbook or w/e they're called

      • +1

Thank you so much for telling me about this - JbHiFi refunded me $610.80 today. Absolute legend!!!!!

        • No problem mate, at least now you don't feel ripped off :).

    • I did it with a Camera but it was only after 1 week.

      • yeah actually checked my receipt, bought it on the 8th July. Felt like longer LOL

Jb laptop at full price!? Ok hand in your ozb membership!

    • Official policy is a refund of the difference if a price drops within 14 days of you buying.

Since you're just outside the 14-day mark, I'd still say you should go in and ask politely, or just call the store and have a nice chat with the manager who should approve it unless they're in a bad mood for some reason.

  • Need a cheap laptop mainly for email and to apply for jobs
Can anyone recommend any of these ?

    • +4

Buy a refurb or used. Just isn't worth buying new if all you need is something to knock out a resume and check your email (and if you're job searching, now is the time to save cash). If it comes without a Windows license, do a search for cheap Windows 10 licenses on here. The cheapest laptop on there is a rubbish, old AMD laptop for $360 with barely enough storage for Windows itself. For $100 more you can buy a refurb from Dell that's way faster, better screen, proper 256GB SSD, and better in every single way.

But I wouldn't spend more than $200 and just pick up a 3rd-4th gen Intel based machine.

Personally I'd go a desktop simply because it's cheaper, look around for a refurb dell machine. I "upgraded" my parents machine from the 14 year old machine I left when I moved out to a 5 year old machine recently, I think I spent more on the SSD than the rest of the machine itself.

      • Agree with above, get a desktop if got monitor in spare.
DELL OPTIPLEX range is good for your purpose, add SSD or get one with SSD, min 8gb ram and you are set. They don't come with wifi, ethernet cable is way to go or get wifi dongle to attach

  • Any opinions on this as a Entry level gaming laptop?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-pavilion-15-6-full-hd-…

    • It's about average for the price but at this point in time. With the new Ryzen 4000s with gtx1650ti, this HP is slightly dated.
It'll serve you well to save up for newer model.

    • Do you need a gaming laptop? Your money would go a lot further with a tower when it comes to value for money. However, if you need a portable machine, this one is about average. As juciness said, a Ryzen 4000 machine will be a better choice.

    • I’m thinking of buying a couple of these for my kids. All they really play is fortnite. Will this suffice do you think?

keen to see further comments on this aswell… $1,038 seems OK to spend on the tax return money

Any good laptop's for gaming and video editing? ( sadly , cant use desktop)

  • +2

The HP 15s-EQ0110AU 15.6" FHD Laptop (256GB) [AMD Ryzen 5] looks like a decent value budget option for $799

    • Caught my eye too, but am pretty clueless. Would love to hear any thoughts on this one

      • +2

It is hard to find a better value available right now option
If you need a laptop right now, this would be comfortably good enough to use for WFH or home schooling
I bought a similar spec HP laptop about a year ago and it works great
