I haven't personally had the opportunity to taste this wine and I am not trying to say anything bad about it, but there are couple of points that I need to bring to fellow Ozbargainer's attention.

Firstly, with DM I found that unless they stock the wine, price on their website is meaningless as wine is shipped by the suppler. That allows the supplier to have a "reference point", i.e. $55 / bottle and if it sells - wow ! DM wins, suppler wins, etc. If it doesn't supplier can have a "sale" and bingo! people jump on the opportunity.

Secondly, points given for this vintage is not that impressive - 90 points Wine Showcase Magazine 2017; 88 points James Halliday Wine Companion 2018; 87 points Huon Hooke Reviews (source - https://www.riverlandwine.com.au/wine-medal-tally/byrne-vineā€¦); one may argue that James Halliday rated the wine 2 years ago and it might become better but again, I find it hard to believe that it improved dramatically to justify $55 / bottle price.

I also noticed that winemaker published 93 points GOLD Wines Showcase Magazine Australia 2015 award for 2015 vintage on their website but omitted 90 points Wine Showcase Magazine 2017 for 2016 vintage :-)

Vivino's review aren't that bad and at $99/6 bottles most likely this wine is a good buy, just keep in mind inflated (in my opinion) RRP.

  • i've taken a gamble and got a pack. See how it goes, at that price its worth a punt.

    • As I said, community on Vivino rated this wine quite well, so I am sure you'll enjoy the drop :)

It's a really good wine if consumed in a day. After a day in the fridge after opening it starts to smell bit funky, not bad to drink or anything but the smell can be off putting for some. It has happened with the last 3 bottles that didn't end up getting drank in a single sitting.

I bought a case when the deal was last posted.

A really powerful white, ideally needs to be drunk with food and cold enough to taste through the heaviness, entirely personal opinion from a red drinker, ymmv
