  • Still deciding between Crash and Mario Kart, and have their opinions?

    • I've got both and prefer Mario Kart. Crash is a bit more of a steeper learning curve so not as great for playing with friends that aren't familiar.

It's tricky, they are pretty different.

As 3L said, crash has a much steeper learning curve, but it feels much more rewarding once you get the hang of it.

Mario Kart is probably a game every switch owner should own though, especially if you ever play split screen with friends as most people have played Mario Kart before and have some form of nostalgia.

Mario Kart is a great game, but because it's a re-release (originally on wii-u or DS?) it comes with nearly everything unlocked, all levels all characters. Only vehicles and parts are unlocked by playing, but there is no career mode as such.

Crash has a much more fleshed out single player campaign, with cutscenes, 'bosses', and progression. However, that being said all levels are unlocked in arcade mode if you want to play any specific level with a friend for example.

I have put probably the same amount of time in to each game on the switch, crash was mostly single player/online and Mario is almost always local multiplayer.

Unfortunately with Crash you missed out on all the online tournaments, no idea if there are plans to re-release them. However all the skins and unlocks from the tournaments can still be unlocked just by playing normally, although there is A LOT of customisation, especially when compared to Mario Kart.

My advice is if you have a particular nostalgia for crash or Mario, get that one.

Otherwise get Mario Kart if you're planning on playing mostly multiplayer, or crash if you think you'll mostly be playing single player (although multiplayer in crash is also great!).

Mario kart is normally $80 but when on sale it's $50 (digital store prices).

Crash is normally $70 but when on sale it's $40 (I think the title of this might have a typo?) So arguably crash is 'better' value.

I'm sure that didn't help at all, good luck!

      • I own PS4 only and I have been considering buying this Crash. I've never played it, but also on PS4 I can't get Mario Kart, which I like a lot. So I'd hope it would be a substitute, but I'm not sure now.

Especially I've been burned recently by buying nickelodeon kart racers on PS4, which feels like a MK knockoff.

        • If you're looking for an arcade kart racer on PS4 I definitely recommend CTR.

It easily holds its own against Mario Kart!

          • @SiliconBased: Thanks for advice!

            • @pizzaguy: Woo! $39 on Amazon for all consoles:

              • @pizzaguy: Just confirming the game is well done and pretty awesome. It doesn't feel very technical, but it's not the fun mayhem that MK provides.

MK is still better for kids and parties and I prefer it, but CTR seems like a decent substitute if you don't own any Nintendo.

Personally Mario Kart. I was surprised how technical Crash was and I didn’t really want to invest the effort to master its sliding techniques, which is essential on harder difficulties. Mario Kart for my mind is funner and also is more pick up and play friendly, which makes it good for when friends are about etc. Crash felt closer to pure racing though, so if you don’t like Mario Karts random attacks maybe it’s the better pick.

Just because I'm curious, do you actually own a Switch or PS4, Lysander?

    • ¿Por qué no los dos?

      • Él tampoco tiene

  • Note: normal edition of crash racing nitro fueled is $41.97

Extras in nitros oxide edition are cosmetic + auto unlock of some characters/karts you could otherwise get by gameplay.
