    • IT’S BACK TO ITS LAUNCH PRICE!!!!

        • It hasn't been available at this price since April, Nvidia increase RRP due to the falling Aussie dollar.
You gonna go neg every other current posted deal on this too?

          • -5

@nugstar: don't make it a bargain just makes it a bit cheaper ie introductory price.

not being under its introductory price in fact means it is not a bargain.

the amazon.com price would have been a bargain but since it was not available through amazon.au so as to gouge, there hasn't been one yet…

so its nothing to do with exchange rates mate is it? just gouging

            • +10

@petry: if this is the cheapest you can currently buy the product, it's a bargain. it doesn't matter what the history of the pricing is - it's about right now. we can't go back in time and buy it cheaper. (profanity)

            • +4

@petry: Official AU stock with warranty. Find a better deal on it if you can, otherwise you're welcome to hop into your time machine.

                • +1

@petry: Just stating facts, the Amazon price you keep referring to does not have an Australian warranty nor is it directly covered by Australian Consumer Law, and it's unattainable as you state. The introductory price is not available today. The manufacturer increased the RRP as the AUD devalued.

                  • -3

@nugstar: and amazon.com have run several lower prices than this which were not made available to australians because of gouging

                • +1

@petry: To be fair it isn't gouging at all, it's supply and demand, Nvidia don't seem to make too many of these units and whenever they're available they're sold out within a week. Why would they bother dropping below this price if they can sell out at said price every time? If you're in the market for one this is the 'bargain' price to get it at.

                  • -2

@BeerCrisp: rubbish - if they are up for sale its a question of access to the market - australians are no longer allowed to access american or english amazon deals on availalble nvidia goods ….

                  • @BeerCrisp: @ hiiamhello
Careful… don't try to be too logical… our resident pedantic with the semantics doesn't like it ;)

    • Again and again….
It is a bargain as you cannot get it cheaper, and the common price was higher than this in last months.
I could put your type of comment on almost every HDD deal in last 6 months for example, as I stocked up on 10TB HDDs at price which was not seen since. I got the Sony WH1000XM3 for $269 and you can seen those posted here for >$300 as a deal.
      Get over it!
If you know a currently obtainable better price, post it and you can neg this deal. I will be the first one to upvote yours.

Was thinking about getting this to replace the ChromeCast, so my better half would have a remote control for her Netflix.
It appears to be the best Android TV box you can buy but it does cost quite a bit.

As we were just using it for streaming I went with the MiBox S which is about quarter of the price. We have been so happy with it we bought a second device for the second TV. So if you just want to stream Netflix etc and want to have a physical control this is a cheaper option that has worked for us.

    • How is the Mibox for playing X264 and X265 files?

    • i've got a shield and a vodafone box and think the voda box is very well priced for what it is. highly recommend it if the shield is out of your price range

We do a lot streaming of geo-locked TV from overseas. I have tried the earlier Shield with the single USB but found it very hard to find TV APK's to side-load. Even when I had APK's, they often wouldn't parse, then if they did the streamers server even with a DNS service or VPN masking my IP address, could somehow see that we're located overseas.

I really liked the shield because it has all the widevine certifications for HD streams. On the other hand my Ugoos can sideload and play all of the UK streaming services we like. The Ugoos however doesn't have the certification required by some streamers and this can limit the stream resolution to 480p. On a large screen 4K TV, it's unsatisfactory.

So we make do with an Intel NUC mini PC running Win 10, this plays all the Highest adaptive bitrate streams, but they have to be played via web browsers, meaning no DD5.1.

I'm guessing, that there's still not a comprehensive list of Shield compatible TV APK's. Unless some ozbargainer knows differently. I'd like to buy this device.

    • well said

@ philart… If you can't find what you want @ Google Play for Android TV, try Aptoid. Care needs to be taken though as there are many older apk's which are not always identifiable.
For the mainstream apk's, and using NordVPN, I have easy success running most UK and European plus US and Canada to date.

      • Thanks. The streaming apps we wish to use are: Zattoo Switzerland, BBC iplayer, ITV Hub, Britbox UK and Prime Video UK.

I wonder is the TV version of those APK's all available on Aptoide TV? I fear that even if listed, some might be the phone/tablet version which means they can't satisfactorily be controlled by the supplied bluetooth controller or a USB airmouse.

I know for sure that Google Play won't install apps from a foreign jurisdiction to an Android device, which rules that out.

    • If you can sideload apps to the Ugoos, you should be able to sideload and play them on the Shield. I have BBC iplayer, ITV Hub, and Channel 5 all working perfectly on my Shield Pro with the remote on Android TV. Also All4, though I have to run an older phone version (6.6.0) to use the remote. They did require some googling and hunting through the Shield forums to find them, though.

Your problem is with Android TV, not the Shield as such, or rather UK TV companies that won't release ATV apps (all the Aussie TV channels do). ATV is coming along in leaps and bounds but still very limited compared to the apps available on the Android phone os. But, hey, you can still run phone apps on the Shield, just need an air mouse, like you do on the Ugoos. The Ugoos won't give you anything more than the Shield, except maybe CoreELEC, though if you want to play everything, Windows will probably always be better than Android. I've been down both those paths and, personally, I prefer the couch potato ease-of-use of Android TV.

The Shield is better integrated with ATV than any other box, except the hybrid version of ATV on Amazon devices. Amazon has developed its own apps for the UK market. Maybe the Fire Cube is for you.

What's in it that its price is competitive to PlayStation 4. Just checked PS4 with 500gb is for $399. These days my kid is happy with Apple Tv and Arcade as he's young but have to look for sheer gaming experience device eventually. PS5 digital is expected around the end of year..so those who are in expert here, this vs PS ?

xbox currently has best graphics in 1x, but new model due out with ps5.

whatever has the best graphics wins really - xbox gamepass is superb but ps has more oz tv apps I think currently than xbox

    • Expert here. Don't bother and let your kid stay happy with Apple TV + Arcade.

From what you're saying, you don't have a particular reason to spend $350.

Any way to get free Kogan first trial without paying for a full month?

    • Get a kogan credit card. No annual fee and kogan first included plus reward point earn rate of $0.01.

  • My TV can do all these things already. Why would I need this or how is this better than a $50 android tv box?

What TV do you have? It really just depends on your needs, would you want to use GeForce Now to play games? Is your TV currently Android TV OS, this may give you access to more apps out there. Does your TV do 4K AI upscaling? If you're watching a lot of 1080P content on your 4K TV this may make a lot of difference. Does your TV have Dolby Atmos? Would you ever take advantage of a Plex server? etc. etc.

      • Thanks dude I'll have a look at that 4K AI upscaling and Dolby atmos. Not really interested in plex or playing games on my tv.

        • No worries, you may not need the pro version in that case, take a look at the standard one here.

  • Anybody know when/where I'll be able to get the Toblerone remote locally?
