  • probably better to bargain with this Dell to get this one cheaper, and then upgrade the SSD and RAM yourself, cause I honestly don't think that 256GB is sufficient these days

The one you've linked is the same price, but only has a 128GB ssd. Everything else looks the same. What is it's advantage?

      • show the JB deal to the Dell rep and ask that same question, then they would discount the one on dell for you, and since 256GB is not really that useful, you can use that savings and buy a 512GB or 1TB SSD to put into the laptop

Isn't the RAM soldered into the motherboard for the XPS 13?

      • ah yeah, you're right, doesn't look like the RAM is upgradable, thought it would be the same as XPS 15

    • To upgrade to 512 from dell website will most likely cost you another 600$ extra… Idk about other specs but that's what i found

Do correct me if i got the specs different tho haha

    • So if you have issues with dell retail, buy from JB in stead.

      • They are not selling 2 in 1 :)

Tl;dr seems to be you ordered the wrong laptop and the worst Dell did was respond to you slowly. I don’t know how this relates to buying a Dell laptop from JB

    • use chat support, they are the best, I recently got half of my laptop replaced without too much issues

    • +1

It's sad because on a corporate/enterprise support level they are really good.

We used to use them and we got to know the main tech so well that our internal team would often do the fixes and he would happily log them and give us bonus parts or help with other stuff.

But having helped a friend with 'pleb' level support for their laptop I know the difference is chalk and cheese.

So according to your Dell post, someone called you at 8:45PM and instead of bothering to cancel your order and re-order you just decided to cancel? I doubt it would have been that much of a hassle to place your order again, considering it was you that made the initial mistake.

If I purchase the wrong item online the usual policy would be return the item and purchase the correct one? Don't make it your agenda to flame Dell or to put off customers from using Dell products just because you made a mistake. I wouldn't expect a salesperson to rewrite their sales IT back-end to make sure they could change the colour of your laptop.

That's my point, the design of the website makes it very difficult. The website concept is around the user being able to customise the product i.e ram, hard drive etc. However Dell has almost identical products with different product codes to signal colour variations, this is really confusing for first time users. In mobile devices this is even more confusing.

My expectation was to be able to select the colour during the purchasing process. Furthermore, like Amazon, if I make a mistake after I have purchased the product, to be able to change it within a window period.

I guess I'm too used to shopping on Amazon but the world has moved on! But what came after was the back and fourth, speak to sales, sales said speak to customer care again. It was a nightmare trust me!

These days it really it shouldn't be that hard. It's not that I didn't try to change the order, I tried a fair bit, but their processes need improvement. It reflects poorly on their brand and service.

        • so how does it explain that Dell service is arrogant? It looks like they tried to help you with your mistake just not within the timeframe that you expected

        • +1

When i'm at the checkout of a high valued item i typically re-scan at checkout multiple times to ensure i've selected the correct product, if you had already concluded that the website was difficult to read you'd assume you'd carry through the same kind of checks to ensure you've selected the correct product/build not just rush to the 'Confirm Purchase' button.

Amazon is the only place I know of that orders a window to cancel an order. I don't think the lack of that feature on Dell's website gives you the right to call their customer service 'arrogant' - seems to me they're just doing their job (though the delays in timing can be annoying as with any other call centre). I guess one of the reasons Dell can offer discounted products at retailers is because those retailers provide the support aspect of the transaction on behalf of Dell.

Suck it up, you made the mistake and possibly missed out on using a great product because you got a tad annoyed. First world problems.

  • I have the 9360 variant and after an update I had compatibility issues with using an egpu. Just putting it out there for people who want to pair this with an egpu, double check online to make sure there isn't issues. Though then again, never know when an update happens and (profanity) it up like with me.

    • Not enough lanes?

      • Im not that much of a computer wiz, but why would it work initially and not later on if it was a problem with not having enough lanes?

  • Looks like the old model (7390), probably should put the model # in title.

  • XPS really needs to go 4th gen Ryzen.

Lenovo X13 AMD Ryzen 5 can be had for $1,500 with 16gb ram.

Dell XPS notorious for unbearable coil whine and general DOA.

      'Unbearable' is a bit rich.

    • Well i just bought an X13, but i do hope there's a review online on the particular model, i found some for T14 (mostly the same just bigger build) and tbh considering the size it's at i expect some over heating, but idk what to sxpect

      Hopefully it will be good

  • They are 1440 on Dell eBay frequently with 20% sale.

Ozbargainers are price sensitive. As long as the price is right, everything else is forgiven. Just whatever it takes to get the cheapest price. Stuff experience, loyalty, customer care, brand value….

    • +2

Well sometimes you get what you pay for, but exactly why i tend to avoid any company that is dodgy or try to not expect anything at all.

But this is just salty, you can ask them to cancel the order altogether and be done with it, then order a new one, if it's within that window frame you should not have been charged any money at all

  • -5

I have gotten over it now and ordered again. But yeah you do get annoyed. It's a little bit like how the applications are awful at work compared to the ones like fb and others outside. You get used to them because it's work and you have to get paid. The gap between Amazon and the rest are rising. A good product like xps 13 can get away but other companies won't be so lucky. The world is changing.
