Definitely far from the cheapest, but in this current climate, it's a good deal for local Australian stock of Seagate Ironwolf 8TB drives (ST8000VN0022) fulfilled by Amazon AU. Interestingly as at 25 July 2020, this is cheaper than any of the eBay Plus 10% off deals which hover around the $360 mark, and compared to the inflated price of external drives even from the US for shucking (8TB Elements is around $230), this is not too much of a premium for a NAS drive.

For comparison, I posted a similar deal last year at sub $300, but with Shopback/Cashrewards and discounted egift cards, this deal isn't too much dearer (net of both, around $310-ish).

FYI the ST8000VN0022 is the old version.
    ST8000VN004 is the new model.

yes, 0022 is the old. should buy 004

  • Is it SMR or CMR?

    • +1

All ironwolf drives are CMR for now.

Meh, I bought one for $280 last year- I just can’t justify getting another one until an under $300 deal appears.

This is me, and I'm dying because I'm waiting to do my ITX OpenMediaVault build.

      • Yeah im up to the last TB in the one I bought in November. So by this rate will probably last me another 2 months lol. Hoping something comes soon.

        • I've had some NAS issues recently and just did a massive cleanup of files I no longer need. I'm at 9% free space so not ideal but it was cheaper to do that. The plan is to get 2x 10TB or 2x 12TB the next good deal I see on ozbargain but until then I can wait with my 4TB and smaller drives. If I get desperate I'll jump on this 8TB deal…

Western Digital Ultrastar 8TB is $286.45 LOL :)

That has to be a pricing error, surely? These things are usually $500 odd for 8tb

Wow, I'm guessing this would be a much better drive choice for a simple 2 bay NAS!

EDIT: Tried to cancel my order but couldn't even though it hasn't shipped. Got told to refuse delivery.

yeah get your money back …!!!

        FYI
WD Gold and WD Ultrastar are the same platform 😁😁😁

        • Yep will do. Ironwolf seemed like overkill anyway but I wanted long term reliability for my parents. Besides, I have 2x3TB HGST drives from 2015 in there currently. Time to replace!

@jace88: Managed to reject the delivery (thanks AusPost!) so hopefully will get the refund sorted. For more archival needs, I'm pretty sure the Ultrastar will be overkill but it sounds more reliable.
