  • Worthing waiting on the barista express to go on sale or just pull the trigger on this now?

    • +1

Bite the bullet about the same!

The Barista Express hasn't gone on sale in ages and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of stock around at the moment. It could be a while before we see the Barista express around the $500 mark again. I would definitely pull the trigger on this. I got tired of waiting and bought the red model for $599 from JB Hi-Fi. Although I'm very happy with my purchase this is much better value.

      • Batista echoes from factory second for $399 year round

        • Which website do you refer to for factory seconds?

          • @karseeeejaaaa: I went to a store, bought it, walked out. It was called Breville factory seconds

    • How do these compare?

    • Look for a factory outlet for Breville. Picked one up for $399

      • Can you suggest such an outlet for Vic?

        • I have no clue, perhaps do some googling?

          Permanently closed
427 Smith St, Fitzroy VIC 3065

          Maybe COVID closed it

          • @spaceflight: Nah, it closed down sometime last year. Lucky I got mine just before they closed.

Great machine, I bought one when it was $1 more back in April.

Only'negative' I have on this machine is the lack of a low water level warning of some sort. The water tank is on the back of the machine and where it is in our kitchen it's a bit difficult to see the level markings on the side.

    • I just top my coffee machine water tank up after every few coffees. Pour a glass of water in and it's done.

Bought this when it came with the extra accessories. Can vouch it's a great machine. Only complaint for me is the grinder is a bit messy

  • out of stock for me in Melbourne

    • +1

Buy it on eBay. I'm in Melbourne and couldn't buy direct. EBay's stock comes from Sydney, and I also got 3% cashback through Shopback. It's not an eBay Plus item but delivery is free.

  • Anyone know where to get the bottomless portafilter thats compatible for this machine? S
I can't seem to find any online that fits this machine.

  • What does 'delonghi died' mean exactly? Just asking as they have thermal fuses that cost around $10 and take 10 mins to replace. My Perfecta has a dead thermoblock (heater), and even that can be sourced for $50. Be a shame to landfill it.

    • My Delonghi was dangerous to use - projected the steam wand fittings at some force intermittently. They were not designed correctly for the purpose.
Scultura model. Looked good in the shop.
It also kept shutting down every few minutes for economy mode.
Marking rubbed off the buttons after a few weeks.
Customer care were not interested at all - wanted me to take it to a service centre at the far side of Sydney and wait a month. There are similar reviews about Delonghi customer serice as my experience with them. Bear that in mind.
      Disaster.
Gave up after 6 weeks of ownership and took it back for refund.
      Bought a Breville. It works.

      • Fair enough, sounds like a dodgy machine. Will take note of that models issues.

      • +1

Thanks for the valuable feedback, these deadshit companies need to be called out and avoided like the plague.

        • -1

          Why? Because few defect machines?
I’ve had a few Delonghi up to date and never had any issue. I prefer a Delonghi over Sunbeam any day.

  • If it's a dedica I'd be interested in having a go.

  • Got this from last deal. Was worried at first coz of some negative reviews but happy to report that its a great machine.
take a bit of practise to get the milk right as the wand is on the weaker side but i find it easy and reliable for that morning caffeine

  • Buy it on eBay. I'm in Melbourne and couldn't buy direct. EBay's stock comes from Sydney, and I also got 3% cashback through Shopback. It's not an eBay Plus item but delivery is free.

    • $497 cheapest on ebay

      • All gone from the Appliances Online ebay listing last night form the looks of it.

      • Then you're too late. When I posted this comment yesterday (just after I bought one) it was $358 plus 3% cashback. Have to be quick to snag a bargain!

  • +1

Do I need this? No.. did I buy it YES lol.
Then again I needed an excuse to get a proper machine I suppose.

Bought this back in April, no ragrets. It's an awesome machine for the price. The grinder outputs wonkily though, so I use a container to collect the grinds then transfer to the basket. Steam wand is a little weak, but with practice you can create lovely microfoam.

Heats up in about 2-3 mins, or in the time I measure/grind the beans and get the milk from the fridge. Switching from extraction to steaming takes only <30 secs (the time it takes for me to pour the milk into the pitcher)

And Appliance Online delivery man actually waited for me to answer the door.

  • I saw this the other day and did not think to post it. JBHFI price matched even though the claim it was below cost. So far, it's a good machine.

Can't complain about the price, but having a separate grinder and coffee machine is definitely easier if one piece packs up. I'd recommend a breville smart grinder and a rancilio silvia as a good entry level combo. You can get the silvia second hand and it will go forever, it's the Toyota corolla of coffee machines and every tech knows how to work on them. The drawback to this machine is that the grinder is a compromise and the steam wand is pretty slow/weak.

    • Upvote for the Rancilio Silvia - great entry coffee machine! But the only thing is the price point (comparing brand new that is). If you're going to fork out anything > $1k you should go prosumer…. anything in the $300 range - you're probably looking at the Brevilles, Sunbeams etc. Still decent machines though

  • Looks like the ebay listing has sold out as well.

  • Is the only difference between this and the EM4300S is that this comes with the coffee grinder?

thought it was always better to get a separate grinder.

  • So i jumped on the band wagon and brought this from their Ebay store.
Noticed that night on 26/07 a tracking number of EBAYXXXXXX was added and marked sent. It suggested delivery on Mon 03/08.
I checked it today and it doesn't have any update on the tracking other than 'tracking number provided', tried Aust Post website with the strange tracking number that starts with EBAY, also without the word EBAY and just the number - nothing found. So I assumed they are using another carrier and I messaged their ebay store to check. This is the response I received:

    =============================
    Hi eBay,

Ebay had not updated its state stock levels for the website when it took into account the estimated time for delivery Australia-wide due to a system limitation. At the moment we are out of stock and waiting on the next shipment which is due in late August onwards. Should we organise a refund so you may source it from elsewhere or wait until that time? We apologize for the delay.

    Regards,

    =============================

First of all I'm not eBay (obviously), but it sounds like they selling stock they dont even have on hand, and uploading dodgy tracking numbers. Just an FYI - I figure I'll just wait it out, I'm in no rush but would have preferred the machine now yes.

Did anyone else receive a similar experience?

    • After a few messages about stock the clowns on their ebay store just cancelled my order and refunded it even though I said I was happy to wait for stock.

      Meh.. next!
