Rip off. Poor specs cheap phone

      • At $199 maybe.

  • How long do these entry level phones last?

Looking for a dumb phone that will last atleast 5 days standby. Should I look for the Nokia banana phone or the updated version of 3210?

    • Not 5 days. Maybe try the new 3310 or whatever they call it.

Why do you want standby for that long?

cheap gps tracker when leaving car at airport

        • +1

Cars have batteries that would power a phone on standby for weeks if not months.

I have the 2.1 and it's genuinely the best phone I've ever owned ever (had numerous phones 5 times the price). Battery on the 2.1 got me easily 4 days at a time with a bunch of browsing and podcasts. 2.2 has less battery capacity, but more efficient components. My 2.1 is a couple of years old now, I'm actually hoping it breaks so I have a good excuse to get the 2.2 or 2.3. It's not made by "proper" Nokia, but it's a damn lot better than Samsung/iPhone offerings imo.

My kids have 2 of these 2.1's and it's about equivalent to a galaxy s6 though the camera is not. To say it's better than a phone 5x the price is correct, but only 5x $69.

      • This one has an "always on" display. Sounds like a drain, but IDK.
Also, the CPU is clocked pretty high, 2GHz.

    • If you don't need smartphone then get one of those HMD ones with epic battery life and no other real features. They work a treat if that's all you care for.

Otherwise if you wanted a smartphone then I'd have suggested something like Zenfone Max series which has low res screen, low performance (ie low power consumption) processor and big battery.

  • Works with Aldi Mobile?

    • +2

      No ….
Yes if you get it unlocked

      • +3

Just been thru this with the Nokia 2.2 sintro. Phone did not accept ALDI sim, asked for unlock code. MAY work with BOOST.

Telstra will unlock but the unlock system during Covid19 lockdown has changed.
        1. Go into store, pay unlock fee, get voucher.
        2. Ring Telstra, quote voucher, ask them to unlock.
        3. Wait

        Telstra unlock fees:
        $80 < 6 months since activation
        $25 6m-24m
        $0 24m+

        • I believe it should work with Boost.

        • Any other cheaper way to unlock this via a code please ? I wanted to send it overseas. Thx..

          • @FBI: Not sure the FBI should be asking that question. :-)

I looked for credible online unlocking services but didn't find any I'd trust.

If you're desperate there's a list of "secret Nokia keycodes" you could try, but I haven't got a clue if they work and I'm not suggesting you try.

        • Will it work with woolworths mobile which uses telstra

          • +1

@sub102: Probaby not as they're an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) like ALDI, Belong etc - . You could ask Ww and return if they say yes and it doesn't work. You best chance would be BOOST.

  • If you're after an unlocked one, check your local Aldi as Aldi at Rhodes NSW had a few unlocked ones for $119 when I was there last week.

Should stop manufacturing 16gb phone devices..

    • supports microsd

    • esp when 10Gb is used out of the box (not saying this one is)

    • +1

Yeah, 32GB should be the new base line.
It's interesting how few devices actually have 32GB of flash, seems that 16 and 64GB are both common pretty much skipping over 32GB.

      • what about ram? are 2gb enough?

        • For this price, yes, in general, only just

      • +1

Because 32gb is a feasible option, 16 isn't really anymore, so it's a dud option they make to force people up

    Forget $100's off a $1000 phone, THIS is value-for-money!

    12nm, 2GHz A53, 40GF, 2GB, 5.7" 720p IPS for $69

I'd been waiting for something like this but already settled for the $180 A20 - amazing AMOLED for the price, but this is better value.

    • +2

I bought one a few weeks ago when it was $75 at Woolies. Unfortunately it is very laggy, A20 is much better. But cheap for a burner phone.

      • A shame! I guess specs aren't the full story. BTW disabling apps that run in the background helped on my low-end phones.
The A20 is laggy too when switching apps.
