  • I have the U31F and am quite happy with it. One thing to consider with the one on offer is that like the U31F it appears not to have a DVD drive.

For the decrease in weight and extended battery life I considered this a reasonable trade-off, given that external dvd writers are not that expensive.

    • So no optical drive?

      • Yep - no optical drive.

    • How long does the battery actually last? Dual core i7… have my doubts about 10 hours. 5 seems more realistic.

      • i was wondering this also, i know the i5 runs for 8 even with heaps surfing/word processing, so would this be the same for the i7? is the i7 dual core much faster than the i5 anyway?
was considering just get the u36jc model with i5 if the i7 costs battery life.

    • I have the U31F too! It's great but after a few months of owning it I've wanted to play games again, and obviously it can't handle that. I've put an SSD in it which is awesome. But yeah..can't seem to sell it off even for $600 with the ssd and the extra 2 year warranty, I guess it's gone a lot cheaper than that now. I haven't actually checked

      • $551 at DSE right now.

        • Oh wow that sucks. How much do you think is a reasonable price with a 120GB OCZ SSD? (Vertex 2) + the 2 year warranty

        • ~$500

  • Hmmm i wonder if MLN will respond to this?

similar to that HP deal on officemax and auspost.

THIS IS A DUAL CORE NOT QUAD CORE.

    http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-(4M-Cache-2_70-GHz)

Also note that this laptop may not come with bluetooth. (ASUS have it as an option)

    Still good specs.

Please dont compare to 15.6" spec laptops.

    • Which by the way, is "better" if you prefer a lower TDP 35 vs 45, and higher clock speeds.

  • the asus zenbook is expected to come out next month so prices are epected to go down

  • I've got the U36JC (i5 model). Great laptop. I used to get ~8 hours for the first week that I had it - I then threw in a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 and since then I get an extra hour to hour and a half.

The best upgrade you can do for this laptop is to replace the HDD with the SSD - the speed and increased battery life is just awesome.

Good price! Even the i5 version (and no MS Office) is still $887 from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230…

Is it possible to sell the bonus Ms Office?

    • I assume so if it's a retail copy.

      • It's not a retail copy but a PKC. Basically you're buying a CD key to activate office into a full version (most PCs come with some starter or trial which you can convert)

you can see the CD key to someone else if you dont want it :)

  • Great deal, time for a new lappy tomo…

  • Any idea when this ends?

    If you want a 15" i7 for an even lower price, check out our current special at The Laptop Factory Outlet;
    http://www.lfo.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&fl…
$948 with bonus $99 cash back, 3 years warranty. Includes MS Office starter (word and excel) 2010.

Same specs the whole way through except, our Acer has the QUAD CPU, a bigger 15" screen, built in DVD burner and 3 years warranty!

  • im thinking about getting this.
    read reviews online and youtube.
it seems like a decent laptop.

    HN says deals end 23-10-2011

so after this date the price will go back up?

and $997 a bargain price for this laptop? i check everywhere its around 1300+

has anyone tried to haggle lower than the $997 price at Harvey Normans?

My girlfriend bought this yesterday and they told her you have to be a student to get the bonus Microsoft Office, as do the terms and conditions on the site.

    • Wow, that sucks! Very misleading advertising then. I guess you can just bring a sibling or any child with you for the purchase.

    • how much did she end up paying for hers?

    • i just grab one yesterday at chatswood chase syd, they didnt ask for my student ID card, but the conditions said must be a student who are from kindergarten to year 12 or college. It really depends on the sales in HN i think.

  • so I went to HN this morning to have a look but deal ended already.
it's back up to $1600 cries.

    guess I missed out.

and I asked, if I brought it on the weekend could he discount the price anymore from $997 sale. he said no.

stupid glossy screen made me' hesitant in purchasing it on the weekend.
