BlackBerry PlayBook for $294! (Postage May Apply)

51

Hi everyone, new member first post. Please be kind if I missed something.

Last post at the same price was with HN: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54984 (description of the PlayBook herein)

Should be the same Aus stock, but distinction from the current deal is that the HN deal has expired (but if they have stock it doesn’t stop you to get them to beat the price (HN’s “best price guarantee”). Don’t know if OW has any in stock.

Seems like can pick up from Sydney, with several stores available.

If pick up, can pay cash at store also. Otherwise Paypal is OK and shipping is $25 flat it seems.

Cheapest on StaticIce is listed as $324

Cheapest on eBay is $370 with postage

I reckon it’s still a very good bargain for BB quality, dual-core, 16Gb internal mem, 1024 res, 7” portability and built-in micro HDMI port. Pity it’s not Android but can run a lot of Android apps, albeit there are some limitations. Read this link for an idea: http://www.slashgear.com/rim-playbook-android-app-limits-det…

Thanks!

Mod: Use direct link to the product.

    Can I neg for that?

Pity it’s not Android but can run a lot of Android apps,

If you want Android, you really should get Android.
What are the advantages of Blackberry's software?

      That's not being kind.

Indeed. PlayBook can use some Android apps but with lots of restrictions. Many HoneyComb tablets would be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich I think and apps would be supporting Android 4.0 — which again there's no guarantee that PlayBook would be able to run them.

It seems fair enough. It's not like we're dealing a total noob who just fell onto the site here.

If they're familiar enough with how things work to pick that up, I call blatant trolling with the "first post be kind" crap…

I am a noob posting first time.

Having recently got quite a few good bargains from the community here (hence the login "OzBargained"), I thought I'd contribute with my finds.

Have read enough bargains (as well as a few first timers advice on posting by Mod in the forums), I include as much comparisons as possible. (similar posts, StaticIce prices etc)

So I may not be falling onto the OB site first time but I am new in posting. Hope I could find some more cheaper bargains (especially popular ones that have expired) and post them here in near future.

        • I call blatant trolling with the "first post be kind" crap…

I honestly though he was doing the cliche as a joke - tongue in cheek. And my response was likewise.
I must learn to put a smiley after jokes, no matter how obvious I think they are.

yes you can …with a small side effect (a neg from me)

  • Silverwater store is closed and hurstville is not open today. So no love for sydneysiders

Yeah manic I know it's tempting (like placing a red button in front and has a sign saying "don't press") :)

I cover everything I could, especially the bit in Android support limitations. But that didn't stop people getting the Touchpad did it? (yeah I know is 1/3 cheaper, but it doesn't even have partial support for Android without an alpha ROM flash)

There are news that BB would allow more Android support for the PB (i.e. official firmware update) in case it ends up like the TouchPad… well, gotta learn your lesson! http://www.securityweek.com/failure-blackberry-playbook-mean…

Still reckon it's worth it if all you need is best security in tablets, built in full version of doc editing and BB email. Well, it also plays video OK.

Any more than that we'll have to wait for another Galaxy tab bargain~

(oh, and thanks Mod for fixing the link—when I first submitted with the same link OB site told me the link is not valid for some reason…)

  • The RIM conference has confirmed that Playbook 2.0 firmware will support Android and RIM has made improvements to the android player app. (wait n see)
    http://nerdberry.net/2011/10/18/blackberry-android-app-playe…

Only negative thing about playbook for me is there are restrictions and crappy integration with google and other online services….

Battery is good, solid feel, best multi task, great web experience…

2.0 will make huge improvement to the playbook..

  • Seems like the special has expired. Title updated
