Australia's Best Internet Forums

What is Ozbargain's opinion of Australia's leading internet forums?

The main one's I'm familiar with are

  • Ozbargain for purchases and general discussion
  • Whirlpool for telecoms/IT/computers and general discussions
  • Bushwalk for bushwalking
  • Aussiehomebrewer for homebrew
  • Hotcopper for investment
  • Reddit can be good for niche subjects where it doesn't need to be Australia specific

What else is out here - what's your niche forum? I'd be particularly interested in hearing about parenting and renovation forums.
There's also reddit and facebook, but I find these aren't as good as traditional forums.

    • Looks like this one is mostly focussed on investment properties (how to find/manage), while homeone is more focussed on renovations?

    Toilet walls.

  • subreddits are best for specific stuff.

For general chitchat, OzBargain forums are probably bigger than anything else, actually.

OzBargain is best if you rear end a Rolls Royce and don't have insurance but want advice.

    • +2

… and then get the sh1ts when the advice isn't what you want to hear (i.e. there's no magical way out of having your keister sued in half).

You're already here, it's called OzBargain. Once you discover OzBargain, all other internet websites become irrelevant. Youtube, news.com.au, reddit, pornhub. You can get all of that right here.

r/Ausfinance and r/fiaustralia are both great finance forums.

  • I think theres a surprising amount of car/automotive specific Australian forums. Although I'm sure they're dying out/dead with the lack of enthusiasts.

    • yeah, I just bought a Skoda a few months ago, I have to use international forums for that

  • tapatalk might have lists

i just read twitter and watch youtube at 2x speed these days lol…

If you love it, why let your eyes wander?

Depends for what though - bargains or just anything? Whirlpool is ok. Reddit is too grossly infatuated with sycophantic leftist values for me.

      • -5

Saying Reddit leans one way or another in ANY regard is such a weightless statement. Don't like what you're seeing on your feed? Change what subs you follow.

      • -3

Let me guess, it all went downhill for you when they banned r/the_donald?

Basically all of reddit, even r/melbourne r/australia

Still remember that time when I got a global reddit ban 🤣

        • +1

Yeah, it's really annoying. I appreciate both sides of the debate, but Reddit is genrally a one-way echo chamber. /r/Australia is absolutely horrible.

If you love us you wouldn't leave us. Don't leave us. Please.

    • You risk being banned for even suggesting such a thing.

There is a new forum - Ausgeek just days old worthy of being an alternative to some.

    https://ausgeek.net/index.php

  • LydiaG, Had a look. Very new, not many posts. I did join up and made a post, good knowledgeable response by someone…

Too early though to give them a gong for being better then any other forum. See how things are in a year or so.
