  • Can you provide some recommended amplifiers to pair with these speakers?

    • If you're looking for a stereo amplifier I can recommend either the AMC XIA 30 or the XIA 50, both will do the job but the XIA 50 will give them a bit more power and drive them much nicer which if the budget permits I would definitely go for :)

      • How would the XiA 50 compare with the Marantz PM5005 which has good reviews for sound quality and is in same price bracket? Not finding much info on the XiA 50 but am interested.

    • I've got my Concept 20s hooked up to a Rotel A-10 and it's a great pairing. You can pick them up pretty cheaply on sale, sub $500.

I've also got some 3010s on a Yamaha n301 on the deck and I'm really happy with it. I paid like $200, but the brand new model is also sub $500 (and has a lot more connectivity options if that's your thing)

  • +1

I have the walnut 2020i's, they're my favourite possession. They look great, they sound better.

  • Hi Rep, Can I use 3000WB to hang a 2000 Series Bookshelf Speaker?

    • +1

According to the Armour Home support portal it is compatible with the 2000i series :)

      • Thanks. I have a 2000i series pack. And recently bought 3050i and Qi80c to pair it with it, to make it to a Atmos 5.1.4. Do you think I will have any issues with that?

        • +2

It should be fine. Tonally the speakers in your system will be very similar. Depending on how sensitive your ears are you may find that the 2000i speakers aren't quite up to the same standard as the 3050i speakers due to the improved speaker technology and the 3000i series will definitely pair better, but in saying that I don't think you will have issues at all with your current set up. Try it out and see how you go, if you feel like you need to upgrade the 2000i speakers you can always do that :)

  • Any deals on the Q ACOUSTICS: QB12?

    • At the moment we have the QB12 down to $1,199 from $1,449 :)

  • Stupid question - ive got a Sony ps-lx310bt turntable - I has a built-in Phono EQ. CAn i just plug these in and it will work'?

    https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/audio-components/ps-lx31…

    • +2

Unfortunately you can't just plug these straight in as they are a passive speaker and not powered. You will still need an amplifier to drive them because the turntable doesn't have speaker terminals for passive speakers :)

      • +1

Awesome - thanks for clarifying. Couldnt see on the website if these were passive or active.

  • Would these be suitable for a room about 9 x 5m? Or should I be looking at something larger?

    • +1

These would do the job but you might feel like the sound is getting a little lost. If you're wanting something to completely fill the room I would look at the larger 3050i speakers for a room that size :)

      • +3

Hm I take a punt, I'm sure I can repurpose them if I'm looking for more!

        • do it.

I use a similar size/spec speaker in a room a bit bigger than that and they're great, 99% of the time. Only lacking when have say 10+ people talking crap in the room or I want to listen unnecessarily loud.

      • I've just stepped up from the (admittedly even smaller) 2020s to the 3050i's and they sound fantastic and really do fill the room. The difference is immense.

  • I badly want these but my pissy little SMSL USB amp i have for my PC won't drive these and I can't justify the additional cost for a proper amp in these covid times…

    • +1

Minimum recommended stereo amp power is 25 watts per channel… if your amp can do it I'd snatch these up now while the price is great and upgrade the amp when you can later on :)

    • I have an SMSL AD18 and drive the Q Acoustics concept 20 well on my PC. I don't think you will have any issues.

      • I use the ad18 for B&w 683, highly recommend that amp

    • +3

Your 'pissy little SMSL USB amp' should be more than enough to make these sing. I say go for it!!! Best thing about decent bookshelf speakers is that they can be pressed into service for so many scenarios later down the track so you can get far more long-term value from them than other types of speaker. A very good investment.

      • +2

Thanks for the encouragement but I had already caved and grabbed these many hours ago

        • +1

That's the OzBargain spirit! Nice work :)

  • Hi @Funkydan,

What AMP would you recommend to run the Q ACOUSTICS: 3050i Cinema Pack?

I also want to use it with a 120FPS OLED TV eventually. Thanks!

  • Are these better than Paradigm monitor 9 speakers as I am planning to replace my paradigm monitor 9 floor standing
    5.1 with Q acoustic floor standing 5.2.2

Paradigmcentrer 1 vs q 3090c Which one is better for dialogue?

    • +1

Why is it that you want to replace the Paradigm Monitor 9s?

Would've thought they're no slouch as value range floor standers.

If you're just after 5.1, probably a few different options to take that would allow you to keep using the Monitor 9s.

      • +1

I don't feel that it has enough punch when playing music and I need to increase centre speaker volume to listen to the movie dialogue.

I have full paradigm 5.1set for a while but somehow I feel something missing and that's the reason I am planning to replace the centre at least to see if that makes the difference.

        • Not sure if a new centre will do much for music playback. Two decent floor standers alone (stereo) should be sufficient.

It's not an appropriately matched subwoofer that is the punch that your yearning for is it? The Monitor 9s should be pretty solid for music, but might lack a bit in the low end if your after thumping bass.

The low voice is a common problem in a lot of movies when viewed at home, due to inherent differences between home and cinema surround setups and movie audio being mixed primarily for the cinema setup.

Depending on your amp and/or media player though, you can adjust the balance of the centre channel to counteract this.

I have some very capable floor standers and a centre that aren't even being stretched by my needs. They are more than capable of tight, high volumes, but also suffer from the low voice problem with movies.

These days I just routinely adjust the centre several dB up at the start of watching a movie.

At $299 delivered for the 3090ci might be worth a punt, but suspect it's not going to do much better than the Paradigm Centre 1 - you're probably going to have to adjust the centre channel up for either to get clearer voices.

Everyone's tastes are different though, and nothing beats taking a sample of some of your typical music and movie viewing to a showroom to audition a speaker setup in person.

          • +1

@opposablethumbs: Thank you mate. I liked paradigm speakers but only a problem when I watch movies or Netflix TV series I had to increase Centre channel speaker volume to hear the dialogue. I am using Marantz 5007 amp and plan to upgrade to Denon x2400 soon.

            • @Iam4bargain: Also a fan of Paradigm and have heard that the Denon amp can really make them shine.

Unfortunately, no matter what your setup, think the real world work around for the centre channel voice problem is just to up it when needed.

Maybe check if you can program presets on your amp or your media player - to at least make it a little bit less fiddly one-button-press solution from a remote. Pretty sure Kodi allows you to set a range of settings as default, but that doesn't solve the problem in apps for Netflix.

I'm just used to doing it, as pretty much on autopilot when I adjust the settings every time before watching a movie.

              • @opposablethumbs: Yes, I have been adjusting the centre channel based on the content type. I better try with a new amp and see if that makes any better.

  • Didn't these launch at USD$300? How were they ever worth over $600?

At least the price drop is in line with global pricing, I guess.

    • Yes, when checking reviews definitely check the USD prices as most reviews are based on that. Personally I would spend a bit more and get the kef q350s when they go on sale at 700bucks on Amazon. They retail for about 700USD.
If you don't have the budget, this is an excellent deal. The only other option at this price range is to get the ELAC debut b6.2 from Amazon us, they were selling for about 440 last month

      • I mean you can snag a pair of Pioneer BS22's fairly cheaply on Kogan, and then modify them further (and quite substantially) through a tweeter and crossover change.

Definitely not an off-the-shelf experience, but you'd be getting a better quality experience than perhaps all of these, and the initial outlay would be at most $250 per pair?

    • And add 10% for GST.

      • I did, this is USD $259 without GST.

  • Alright OP you got me, think this will fit my needs nicely - great looking gear as well.

I pulled the trigger on these Bookshelf speakers and the AMC XIA 30 amp you recommended.

Whats delivery turn around usually like?

    • Awesome! You'll love your new system :)
You can find shipping details here and it all depends on your location.

  • Nice baby bookshelfs at a good price.

  • Going to be putting these on a desk - can anyone recommend some good small stands for these? Or a place to start looking

    • they look tiny enough to go on these audioengine A2 stands.
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/audioengine-ds1-desktop-s…

i'm planning to set em up on my desktop using those stands as well. had A2s which died.

      • I don’t think they are going to be anywhere near big enough. These speakers are around 11 inches deep

        • oh f**k. such an amateur mistake. bought them without looking at dimensions. I see 'bookshelf' and immediately made an assumption. I just paid for them as well. urgh.

          • @plentifoo: Yeah these are deceptively big bookshelf speakers - especially the depth on them, pretty thicc

    • +1

Ikea capita legs and a chopping board with similar dimensions

  • Is there a powered/active version of these available?

    • Unfortunately there isn't.. you can always pair them with a mini amplifier if space is your constraint :)

  • how are they for desktop pc use? i've got a audinst dac and matrix m-stage amp, i think they should drive these sufficiently, but how are they suited for purpose?

i really nejoyed my audioengine A2s when I had them, but they broke recently and in the interim i replaced them with some $90 edifiers which are doing a decent job.

    • These are almost triple the size of the A2's. Powerful speakers, big presence, larger frequency range. Depends if that is your kind of thing or not, but muhc more powerful speaker.

      • ya see my above post. Impulse puchased without looking at dimensions. they've also been shipped already - looks like i'll be looking to trade down or sell it once it arrives in perth.

  • rear bass port

    some people allergic to that

  • Hi mate,

Looking to upgrade my speakers too. I don't know much and don't own an AMP. If I wanted to run this off directly my computer is that possible?

And then i can get an amp later on?

    Cheers!

    • +1

They are passive speakers so you will need an amp of some sort.

      • yeah.. just realised that .. these things are HUGE!

I don't know if I can accommodate both an AMP and Speakers on my desk :(

Anyone recommend any ok amp that's not huge in size or price? (Possibly with included cables or recommend any cables?)

Might buy 3010 since they seem ok and smaller.

        • Regarding the size of the amp - you can get heaps of mini amps. I’m unsure what would be suitable with these though

          • +1

@TightTerry: I have a tiny Douk Audio G3 - Usually fairly available over amazon.

        • We have the Elipson MC Mini Stereo Amplifier which will power these no problem at all!

  • +2

Great seller got the 3010i's in the last deal..shipping was quick to melb!

Just using them as desktop pc speakers atm with a cheap Douk Audio G3 amp that I had lying around for now. Does sound pretty good still.

  • Small issue - no photo of the rear connections panel would be nice.

    • Sorry! You can definitely find a photo of the rear of the speaker on Google. It's just a single pair of terminals and a rear port :)

  • +1

These are great. I have them paired with Yamaha R-N602 plus a Klipsch Subwoofer. These speakers also have speaker stands which just sit on. Not good with pets which can be knocked over :(

    • How do you like that amp? I'm looking for a good pairing to combine my TV and record player. Having airplay is a big bonus for music/audiobook playback too.

      • +1

I like this amp it is my first stereo amp. Full of features, music cast is great. Not hooked up to tv though. Great sound stage For room about 5m x5m . The amp has phono input so can hook up turntable . I was planning to do turntable but never got around to it. It gets used about once a month maybe. airplay was easy to use when I had an iPhone but been on android for about 18 months now. I mainly stream via NAS as I converted my CD collection to flac. It has native streaming service like tidal, Spotify and deezer. I have google music to stream if I need to, trialed the others couldn’t justify the price. Hope this helps

        • Yeah it does, thank you

  • +1

God that walnut is so sexy

  • Bought a pack just now from you guys.. Just miss the 3050i floor stand speaker. Any deal on that in walnut colours? I found deal on ebay for 1150 with code, but walnut colours has been sold out. Any chance you can do price match?

    • Give us a call and we'll see what we can work out for you :)

  • +1

Thanks. Grabbed both the 3020i and the matching 3090i center.

  • Hi Dan,

Is there a deal on the 3050i pack minus the sub??

    Cheers

    • We currently dont have any packages on our website but if you give us a call we can definitely work something out for you minus the sub :)

  • These look like a great deal but I'm not sure if I should / need to upgrade. I've got a pair of B&W v201 from the 80's I think (bought 2nd hand a few years back in almost mint condition). How would my vintage 30 year+ speakers hold up against the 3020i?

Cheers if anyone can chime in.

Businesses aren't supposed to quote RRP in advertisements as a comparison. They are only supposed to quote what they last sold it for, which you have also done. Check the ACCC website to see what you can put in advertisements.

  • drat… all gone :(

    • IM plentifoo a bit further up. Looks like they want to offload theirs as an accidental purchase

  • How do these compare to JBL 305s? I know these are passive and the JBLs are powered monitors. I'm interested in the difference in sound.

    • Take this with a handful of salt because this was over a year ago and I didn't get to listen to them both at the same time/same place and the Q Acoustics were literally brand new out of the box when I auditioned them but from memory I thought the JBL 305P II (which was what I ended up with and am still rocking now) had a bigger, more open sound but beyond that I didn't think one necessarily sounded much better than the other. The JBL being powered monitors too and not having to spend more money on an amp (and also space saving on my desktop) sealed the deal for me.

  • Bought the bookshelf and the matching centre speaker. Really wanted to get the floor standing speaker but don't have the cash atm.

I'm mainly trying to set this up for home theatre and use the bookshelf occasionally for music.

@funkydan will there any more sales in the future for the floor standing speaker? What amp do you recommend?

Is there a amp that has a walnut colour / retro feel?

    • +1

Look at some of Peachtree Audio's amps for a wood finishes.

  • +2

Can we please get a black centre at this 299 price? I have black speakers and walnut just doesn't go …

    • Yeah, can we have this deal in black? All my furniture is black

  • +1

Yay, finally got a centre speaker after missing out on the previous 3090i in white. I like walnut better, it matches my rear speakers. It would not be good for my OCD to have a white centre, two black concept 20 fronts and two rear 3020i in walnut.

But actually , if we are able to switch to black, order #14553 in black would be even better :D
