Do people actually use money clips?

    • I would! Or save it as Christmas presents giveaways =p

    • +6

yes. when you go to the casino as a high roller and you pull out your money clip brimming with $5 notes.

    • Stopped using a wallet 20 years ago now and can't see the point of them anymore. A decent moneyclip with a bit of weight sits in the front pocket and the weight makes it settle to the bottom. Makes it harder for pickpockets.

As for cards, how many do you need? For me it's 3, licence, credit, and EFTPOS. Medicare etc don't get used much at all so they stay in the car. Or nowadays you can scan them to the phone

Rawr, no paypal option :( Good deal though :)

  • Yerp I do, its better than having a big wallet stuffed in your back pocket, which looks terrible.

Get a smaller wallet? I never used to put my wallet in my back pocket because it was so large but I got a new slim wallet which only holds the essential cards and notes and you don't even notice it. These days it's almost essential to have your cards with you like proof of age etc… so just having a money clip doesn't work.

      • Can you provide more info on your smaller wallet. Fat ones rip trousers around the back pocket over time.

Note it will struggle to hold more than 5 or 6 cards, but the whole point of getting one of these is to leave some cards at home and simplify your load anyway.

        • I got a really thin one from all-ett. If you get the 'nylon' version it's about $US20+Shipping, but it's probably the thinnest wallet you'll find(only holds 4 cards, including Window ID, two money/note sections, no coin spot).

        • if you only want to hold a few cards, a slim business card holder can do the trick (eg Bunnings card holder or visit a Daiso if there's one in your area)

      • just having a money clip doesn't work.

Pretty much everyone I know who uses a money clip has a separate card case for when they need to bring cards along. Some people also prefer to keep their money and cards separate, rather than risk having them in the same container.

That said, I generally use a slim wallet too. :)

        • rather than risk having them in the same container.

is some kind of "gremlins - don't get them wet" type of precaution?

        • I think the logic I've heard is, pickpockets pick one pocket as they bump you or whatever. If you have things separate and are marked as a target, they'll get one lot of things and not both.

@ Tilduke you just beat me with the response speed..i was about to write the same response to @marky..even I think we are in credit card age :-))

Have a look at the Jag wallets.

They are the same height as Australian money so are made as small as possible while still being able to hold money.

Don't keep your wallet in your back pocket either, it is much easier to pick pocket.

I wish had enough folding money that I needed a clip for it to keep it organised :(.

    Value $44. LOL! How ridiculous.
    Cost price: 50c

    • no way on earth it is worth $44

    • I bet you have in some way paid for printer ink before. Same deal there.

    • What they advertise value as isn't that relevant, and hence no reason to neg. Only thing you need to decide is whether it's worth $2 or not, and even if cost price was 50c, delivery alone would push it over $2.

      • delivery alone would push it over $2.

not when it comes from china

  • I bought a money clip this time last year hoping to get rid of the fat wallet. I found that the money clip was just too sharp (edges) and had difficulty sliding in the notes. I had to use a credit card to push the notes in. I guess if it was too easy to slide in, it won't have enough grip to hold the notes securely.

I decided to get a skinnier wallet instead from http://www.bigskinny.net/. IMHO, it is the best 'gadget' I've bought all year. I love it. It's amazing how much cards it can hold and still remain so thin. It's quite a bit more than the $2 money clip, but it is well worth it.

    I just use a peg.

  • er my Amex is only 15 digits, n it keeps saying "Please enter 16 digits only"…

    • Yep just send me your credit card number and I'll do it for you

      (don't actually do this)

    • no problems using my Amex. did you select the card type first before entering numbers?

  • Real high rollers use a rubber band around their roll

    • You ballin', homie?

  • If you were male and had any brains you would use a man-bag.

    what to do with coins?

    • +1

      Put them in your socks?

I recently upgraded to a manly man wallet (from my teenager wallet) and the sudden lack of coin storage ability is a problem for me too.
