Garmin Forerunner 935
Premium GPS Running/Triathlon Watch
Features Wrist-Based Heart Rate
Multisport Features
Advanced Running Dynamics and Smart Notifications

I currently have the Garmin 735XT which is a great all round watch as well.
There is the latest version Garmin Forerunner 945, but still quite pricey above $650.
Pulled the trigger on this 935 which I think is pretty good value at $369.

Incredible deal, these are one the best watches ever. Awesome battery life. Basically does everything except fancy stuff - I would get another brand of watch for other things. If you're into Tri, this is perfect.

    • +1

Main reason for me is for triathlon training. Looking forward to seeing what the newer metrics tell me.

      • +1

I went from 735 to 935 and was very happy. 735 is a good watch, this is a great watch.

      • Don’t forget to get the HRM tri if you don’t have it already, awesome combo

  • You can get it from Rebel Sport for about $350 if you buy their gift cards from The Entertainment Book (10% off) and with the 3.5% cashback (so it ends up $3-4 less).

    • +3

      Conditions for cashback:

Cashback is ineligible if a gift card/eGift card is used as payment or part payment.

Also, there is a charge for buying gift cards from Entertainment Book(Credit card fee is 1.25%) so you won't get the whole 10% off.

      • +1

I had included the credit card feee, but didn't realise there was no cash back if paying with gift cards. So scrap that :-)

  • +1

I owned this watch and it was rock solid. Great value at this price. I eventually upgraded to the 945 for tap/pay and music but I still think the 935 had a more premium feel about it.

  • Rebel is at $399 which is still a good price, but more effort to do the gift cards (plus I don't have the entertainment book this year).

  • +1

Is this overkill for someone who will be using it for weight training around 4 times a week and to check notifications? no running etc etc. Am I better off buying a cheaper alternative?

    • +2

Almost certainly, this watch does everything you could ever need (e.g including open water swimming which most lower level garmin devices don't do and I needed) except have music/garmin pay. If you only need it for weight training you can likely get something cheaper or that includes music/pay for a similar price.

I've had my 935 for 2(?) or so years and it hasn't missed a beat, awesome watch that I never take off except to charge (lasts about a week with notifications etc on and using it for gps sports 2-3 times a week).

Will upgrade to the 945 when/if this breaks as I love the smaller/lighter form factor compared to the fenix series.

      • Is the 945 the cheapest model that has music and Garmin Pay?

        • No
Garmin.com.au and filter .. nice website .. works well

        • Vivoactive 3 music

    • Couldn't you do that with a Xiaomi Band? They're around $40 and a lot smaller so may not get in the way so much though they have a funny band catch. You might be better with the Huawai one which has a normal buckle.

      • Doesn't have a notification icon on the homescreen .. so if you miss the flash of the notification, then you have to go digging through the menus.

Instinct has a notification icon on homescreen

    • +1

Yeah definitely overkill. If you are keen on a watch type interface then the Garmin Instinct costs a little less https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555871 but for what you need something like the Xiaomi Band could do as well. The Garmin's have a rep count feature but it's never accurate.

      • I need a heart rate sensor but I can't stand the "fitbit" bands.
Do you guys know of any good watch (with a decent size like 42mm) that does time + HR?

        • The HR sensor of any band/watch released in the last one year is pretty good and come with 24 hr logging. Even the $30 Honor / Xiaomi band track 24hrs. You can pick any that you like.
I personally prefer the Garmin VivoSmart band (has the key things I want from Garmin software), light weight to wear 24hrs was a steal when I got a brand new one on Facebook for $90.

      Yo,
It’s definitely for cardio more than weights. It has some ability to create weights workouts and track activities but it’s pretty clunky to use. It’s supposed to pick up reps using the accelerometer but it was hit and miss. I love this watch but it shines with cardio activities.
That said, I had a knee reconstruction 6 months ago and haven’t run since and still wear it daily. 24 HR monitoring is neat. Battery really good.

Probably overkill for your needs though.

    • When you select the item it comes up as $399? I checked this earlier. Can someone else confirm?

      • +1

Actually you're right - $299 on that page then $399 on the more detailed page.

        • I would have shared that price point if Garmin were honest with their site!

          • @chrisher78: I would screenshot the false advertised price and shoot them an email as chances are they will have to honour $299.

      • It says $749 on the main page for me but when I click on it it comes down to $399.

    • May be it will go down to $299 in next few days. For now, when you click on it, it goes up to $399. $299 will be such a good price.

Remember when the 925 was $220?

The price of brand name watches got stupid.

Owner here. This is a pretty nice watch. It has almost every piece of function that you can think of when it comes to sports logging. It's also a good small daily life companion. I bought this model 37 months ago for $600, which was pretty good deal at that time. It never brought any trouble to me, battery still going strong. I would definitely recommend this watch based on my experience with it. Considering the price, this deal is kinda no brainer if you're looking for such type of a watch.

    • I read people complaining about HR monitor cracking after a year or so on these. Have you experienced any such issue? Also sleep tracking is really important to me and I am very happy with Fitbits's tracking but read terrible reviews on Garmin's ability to track sleep. Any experience with sleep tracking?

      • +1

HR monitor is all good. Never had any issues about it. As for sleep tracking, I don't have much to say about it because honestly I don't wear electronic devices at sleep lol. Just my personal habit. But one thing worth a mentioning is that if I were you, I would keep using the Fitbit for sleep tracking as it's more imperceptible, and this watch for logging workout. It's kinda big compared to those lightweight sleep tracking bands, thus less comfortable when wearing at sleep.

        • Thanks for your inputs. Appreciate it!

      • +1

My HR sensor glass cracked as per common reports online around 14 months into ownership. Mine didn't happen slowly. I took it off for a shower one day and immediately noticed multiple fractures.

I contacted Garmin support even though it was just out of warranty and they offered a refurbished unit replacement so I hope that lasts.

I use Sleep as Android with my 935 for sleep tracking and find it decent enough but I don't delve too far into sleep science so I couldn't tell you if it was accurate or meaningful.

        • Thanks for sharing your experience.

Owner here as well. 935 has been a great watch for the past 2 years. I'm an open water swimmer so mostly ocean, river and pool swimming. Also use it for bike riding and the gym. The only thing that isn't working any more is the temperature function, which stopped for some reason. Great watch though and paid closer to $600 I reckon.

  • If anybody here wants it quick on the spot, I got my Garmin watch in Rebel Sport when they PriceMatched to Kogan website last time. and slashed a few more dollars too. That was awesome.

  • +1

Got the last one I think :)

The tri bundle is good value at $549 too. Comes with hrm-tri AND hrm-swim which are easily $120+ bucks a piece.

  • do you really want to upload your data to such an unsecure company

    • I don't own a Garmin, but I guess no company is secure, and we might have to choose between one or another if we wanna use a track device or smartwatch, and an assistant (Google, Alexa). Apart from the recent ransomware attack (Garmin), I see no difference between giving my data to Apple, Google, Microsoft, Garmin, Fitbit (might become Google in the next months)… After last week, Garmin might be the most secure…

  • back in stock by the looks of it

  • Alright who else has theirs lost somewhere in WA? :(

  • Price is now showing $398.80
