  • New services only?

    • Ah yes, I'll update post

  • "Bonus data offer ends 30/09/20." (i.e., if I am interpreting it correctly, it's essentially 20GB/month after the end of next month)

    • +6

I think it means you have to sign up before 30/09/20 to be eligible for the bonus 20GB data

      • Extra 20GB every month

    • +2

Imagine you just have to sign up by 30.9

God, I'm paying $40 a month for 80gb on optus, sim only plan I've had for a while. Hard to get excited about this…

    • how you get that

      • There was a 20% off deal on the old plans, which comes down to around $40 at the time. I almost signed up for the same plan but decided to stay with my $10 a month Belong mobile. 😂

      • +1

I reckon I've had it for at least two years now. Was one of the 20% off deals as jezza p mentioned.

        • that's very good imo, tablet plans were very competitively priced and network was very good but since last year June, Optus aggressively raised prices and quality worsened(you could imagine their network is not that great to begin with especially in Sydney).

        • +2

Mine literally just expired as of 3 august. So I got slugged with the full amount this month. No more 20% discount.

      • you can get vodafone prepaid sim $40 starter pack for $14 includes 45 GB data and intnl call allowance until dec 2020 must agree to auto recharge and also $10 each month as bonus when you recharge before time with 35 day expiry

    • Does the $10/20% discount on that plan ever expire? Otherwise… no reason to leave it.

That plan also included 4GB international roaming which is incredibly useful.

      • Im still getting charged only $40 so I assume it's ongoing. Mine is the one just before they brought in the 4gb monthly roaming unfortunately. When I go overseas I use an optus prepaid sim with their international roaming pack (worked great in Japan last year).

No rewards for the loyal who have been with them since 1995!

    • +1

I believe you're confusing "chumps" with "loyal customers". If you have been with Optus since 1995 and you've only just noticed that if you stay with a provider without asking for better you're getting screwed…then you must have been in a coma since 1995. Optus will freely match any deal on the market if you're out of contract and if they don't just port your number elsewhere.

    • I use the term 'loyal' loosely. I have 2 phone services and 5 no cost data sharing sims (in tablets etc) for $51, which reduced from 40Gb to 20GB earlier this year after a 12m contract ended. So I am looking for a data upgrade!

If you know of another provider that can offer better data or lower fees with same sharing options, I'll jump at it.

      Oh, I didn't say I haven't asked. I've changed plans many times.

  • Thanks OP, just went from Optus to Vaya and will likely port back to Optus to take advantage of this.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just what I was looking for. Can’t wait to get off Telstra and their shit reception.

  • Interesting deal. Paying much more for my Telstra plan and patchy coverage at home, might give it a go!

  • This seems like a good deal and I'm thinking about signing up because its the best value plan I can find out of the main Telcos. The $50 Flybuys Points is a nice bonus because it offsets the first bill but I'm going to switch because 40GB data seems good value for $35. It also includes free Optus Sport which is handy while being in lock-down because I can watch the Champions League finals. Does anyone know how long the process takes to sign up?

  • Does it mean not for re-contracts? So I cannot change my current Optus plan (out of contract) to this one?

  • Can you add $5 international call pack with this plan?

edit: Found it. $10 for the international pack.

  • Anyone thinking about this plan I would strongly advise against it and Optus in general. I originally tried ringing Optus to see what they could do for me as an existing customer wanting this deal or a similar value one and was told "sorry cant help you and you will have to port out and back in to qualify as a new customer" I then ported out to Aldi and am now trying to port back in to this deal but so far have spent about 7 hours talking with idiots on chat from Optus.. about 2 hours talking to Optus on the phone and have also been to my local Optus store as well… AND NO ONE CAN HELP!
It seems like this deal is on ONLINE only thing and no-one at Optus is able to process it or deal with any problems with it so when the online portal doesnt work they can't help you at all and just try to upsell you to a more expensive plan. I have already put in an ACCC report as to me this seems like "bait and switch". I keep getting a message saying that the deal is "not available for existing mobile number upgrades" even though my number is now with Adli. SOO FRUSTRATING!
Previously have had no problems with Optus and would have recommended them to anyone however now am beginning to question if they are really worth the hassles!

  • Can you add the 10% student discount?
