    49 is B450

    • +2

      eh?

      • +8

        49 is before 50

    • +1

      rEaLlY nOw? Lol

  • If it wasn’t for this god knows why rear panel layout I would have gone with their B550 itx model.

So much space wasted on such a little motherboard.

  • +2

I have this board in my HTPC build, solid.

    • what case?

      • +2

Me too, mine is in an Inwin Chopin.

      • Fractal Node 202 - https://www.pccasegear.com/products/34470?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6575…

I used to have a low-profile case but gfx card options were limited and as my gaming needs grew I needed a full size card (while still trying to maintain a slim VCR-like profile) so now I'm rockin' an RX580 under my TV!

  • +7

Tempting, just need to find the Yeston Cute Pet case now

  • Dang missing a few cool features off the B550i though, mostly future proofing stuff but also USB 3.2 x 4 on the back and ram/CPU comparability.

But it's basically half the price… Tough choices

    • very niche use case to go with this board imo despite the price

  • +3

Are there people that patient that slowly gather parts as they appear on OZB?

Or is this the first part that will trigger spending on everything else in rapid succession?

    • +3

i am currently 18 months into slowly collecting the parts of a mini-itx build.

i've left the mobo, cpu and gpu to last because i didn't have an immediate need for an upgrade and i was always waiting for big navi (to table flip the gpu market) anyway

i want that gigabyte b550i, i want it, but i ain't paying 350$ for it

      • +2

But given that PC parts generally drop in price, are you now not worse off? It's this because you don't have the money or just really want to save?

        • +3

I've only been buying parts as they hit OzBargain.

I had the money, I was just trying to squeeze the most out of my money, such as NVMe drives and RAM prices coming down over the last few months or so.

For example, I waited until I got a deal on the Corsair SF750 for 198$ last Christmas

        • +1

Some things drop in price (or next gen is released and you get better tech) but others such as the power supply I'd be happy to buy earlier. Probably not 18 months, but certainly 6 months earlier if I saw a good sale on one. Those have a 5+ year warranty so 6 months without having it operating really isn't an issue. Same with a screen or storage HDD for a 2nd build, you may get a bit of value if you can add it to your current setup for a while.

Realistically the 5 builds l've put together have been find a couple of good deals in sales periods and then pull the trigger. Max 2 vendors so that I'm not waiting on the CPU when I've had the motherboard delivered. Had issues once with back order (was in stock when I ordered and then they couldn't fulfill, never again.

As you said, PC Parts generally become cheaper so you do lose value just having parts sitting around not being used.

    • +1

I ordered everything at once, june 16th. Everything arrived except my B550 ITX board, which should come August 15th .I'm still kicking myself looking at all the parts stacked around my home office.

      • +1

That's awful. It was killer waiting just a few days for my final part.

(It was an SSD, and I kept having to talk myself out of installing everything an old spare drive for just that one day).

        • +1

Wish it was just an SSD and i could do that instead of waiting 2 months for a crucial component!

    • +2

I slowly gathered parts, starting with the Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB for $126 that most people figured was a pricing error. When it actually arrived, I figured I might as well start a new build! Most of the other bits were also OzB specials (WD Black SN750 500Gb, one of the Noctua coolers off newegg etc)

  • please please be in stock when my new credit card arrives, need to hit that min spend.

    • Anz pointhack credit card?

      • No anz is garbage. St George card.

    • and it's gone T.T

  • Extra $20 for this Full size ATX model with more ports (USB C, 4 x ram slot etc…) https://www.amazon.com.au/Gigabyte-B450-Aorus-WiFi-Motherboa…

    • +3

Clearly you don't understand the sffpc tax

      • +1

He's just trying to be helpful - no need to be rude about it.

  • +2

Good price. Just built a pc last weekend. Ended up asrock itx b550 for double the price. Paid rrp from ple to get warranty support locally. Bought ram and case at same time.
Bought 3800x cpu from Amazon UK deal, and got chromax u12s from Taiwan @ $110.

    Now waiting for ampere -_-

Went with lian Li tu150 as it fits the noctua u12s.

    • +2

That case is so big though, why bother going mitx if your PC is still massive?

      • I like the nzxt h210i

        • Aesthetically nice case but very large for itx

I can't talk though I'm waiting for my NZXT H1 (still on the bigger side for itx) preorder haha

          • @myheaven: Small footprint though! Looks nice imo

          • @myheaven: True, it would be a nice build. I did a Meshify C build not long ago, nice case shorter than my old Refine R3 but wouldn't want any bigger.

I wouldn't mind a cheap htpc case to put my old i5 2500k in and old gfx card for media pc for the telly.. can usually chromecast most stuff but would still be handy. Probably not worth it (and isn't booting anyway).

      • +1

its only 23L - how much smaller can you get without using a riser and all the related complications? Also, has carry handle.

        • Exactly!! Not sure why people saying it's big. I was hoping for the Nr200 but delivery at ple was sept. Too long.

        • It's over 24L I think… But my point is that you're paying a cost premium for many of your parts when you could just get a mATX motherboard and case which is pretty much the same total volume but cheaper. My Inwin 301 was maybe 2L bigger but was mATX. People can put an itx board and SFX PSU into full ATX towers if they want to, it's up to them, I just don't see the point in paying the extra if there's no benefit. But that's just my opinion. I'm just writing words.

          • @scottySK: Specs online i can find say its 23L.

But anyway i digress. There is a market for having a desktop that is small enough to move around, but not too small that your making compromises on GPU and cooling options (while also not breaking the bank). Do you have any suggestions for a 20-25L mATX with good aircooling support and full size GPU without a riser? 25L is the limit because anything above is really not portable. 20L is the lower bounds as I dont even think I've ever seen a case (mITX or mATX) smaller that doesnt have a riser card.

I did search myself and couldnt find anything other than the TU150 and I'd be interested to see alternatives if mATX can actually fit the niche. Everything else was either too expensive or too big.

            • +1

@Kill Joy: If you're honestly asking for a sff case then I'd suggest the ncase M1 at around 12-13L, full GPU, no riser, accommodates decent air cooling solutions but is best used with an AIO

If you want a sff mATX alternative, you can fit one into the new CM NR200 if you're handy, or the metalfish S5 from AliExpress/taobao

              • @scottySK: ncase M1 - availability is low, price is high ($300+)
CM NR200 - actually a good option, but its not released yet. Sadly it only supports coolers up to 155mm which cuts your options down significantly for the common 165mm options the TU150 has. Would love to see how someone fits a mATX in there trhough.

So up until 15 August when NR200 releases there hasnt really been a good affordable option

        • Have a look at the Cougar QBX. It can take a full sized PSU and GPU at 19.8L. Lots of cooling options and is essentially a knock-off of the Ncase M1 at a slightly larger footprint - see pictorial comparison here.

I've built a couple of PCs for friends with this and it's honestly one of my all time favourite cases at this price point (around $90 delivered at the moment). Quality is pretty good for what you pay.

          • +1

@OSienna: The Cougar was going to be my pick, until i saw that it barely fits a 240mm rad (1 fan only?) and the CPU cooler is limited to 105mm which is embarassing. Though a good case, its not hassle free for compatibility. Add 3ltires and get the Tu150, then you can fit a fullsize radiator or 165mm cooler.

Again great size, price, and quality - but just too much compromise.

            • +1

@Kill Joy: The QBX can take a 240mm rad but you'll need to use an SFX PSU with bracket but I agree, it's not completely hassle-free for compatibility. For someone on a limited budget, I think the compromise is worth it.

I like the TU150 too and the glass panel and handle warrants the price premium but the QBX won me over with its full-sized PSU support.

      • +1

Also it's near impossible to get those real nice mitx cases in au without months of shipping and a kidney (Dan A4, Ghost S1, NZXT H1 etc) - I'd say the new Cooler Master NR200 is nice but its still 18.25L

        • The Jonsbo A4 looks nice for a larger (and available) mITX sandwich style case

      • I came from an atx board and mid size tower. To me this move is huge, or rather smaller!. Also for my use case, the case is on the floor anyway. So not putting the "big" case on table.

      • I've had PCs in 5, 8, 13 and 19 Litre cases. All considered SFF being sub 20L. I like moving my PCs around depending on where in the house I want to play. I also used to take them to LAN parties before COVID, when it was still a thing.

Furthermore, when you've got multiple PCs, real estate becomes a premium if you don't want clutter everywhere. For some, it's also more rewarding to build a SFF PC given the space, thermal and expansion constraints and aesthetically, I think there are more interesting designs in the mITX category. Definitely an enthusiast niche and not for everyone, hence the price premium.

        • I've had PCs in 5, 8, 13 and 19 Litre cases

Of those, which could support a full size graphics card and cooling? That was the biggest issue I had with SFF cases (let alone affordable ones) which led me to settle on the TU150.

          • +1

@Kill Joy: Only the 13 and 19 could take a full-sized GPU. Basically, the smaller the case, the more challenging and expensive it was to accommodate full-sized components without compromising too much on performance (compute, graphics, thermal or otherwise).

I ended up getting rid of the lot and settled on the 13L but they ALL had their pros and cons and I admired each them for their individual strengths. Strangely, I have a particular soft spot for the Optiplex 9020 SFF with it's tiny 8L footprint and big bang for buck value! If you can find one for ~$150 and pair it with a relatively cheap RX550, it's an extremely capable gaming rig for next to nothing..

Isn't it still better to get the Intel considering that they overclock to 5Ghz with ease where else there is virtually no overclocking on AMD CPUs?

  • I think you will need an old Ryzen to update the BIOS?
Before you can use the Ryzen 3600X?

    • Was going to say people should be careful, Ryzen 3000 might not work without a bios update which may requires a 1st or 2nd gen CPU.

      • I thought the MSI Mortar Max B450M was a good choice for around the same price.
Only thing that would have been nice would be front USB C header, ARGB headers and included M.2 heatsheild but don't usually get that unless buying a higher end board. Had no issues with Ryzen 3000 cpu working and bios updates

        • +1

I have the Mortar Max which is great.
But would have liked ITX rather than mATX.

      • I read that when choosing mbs on pc part picker. I'm looking at a ryzen 7 with a gigabyte b450m, but may go msi. EG: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4
I was looking at buildings a dual boot hackintosh using Logic Pro.

    • I bought this board earlier this year and it was compatible out of the box with Ryzen 3700x. My understanding is all new versions of this board are pre flashed to work. If it’s old stock it might need to be updated before it works with Ryzen 3xxx

      • Just curious where did you buy it from?

        • Sorry just saw this - Skycomp

    • I bought this board 6 months ago from amazon and it was compatible with my 3600 out of the box. Can't guarantee that it would be the case here, but suspect it would.

  • +2

I have this board. The WiFi chip is hot garbage.

    • Interested to understand why, maybe I'm comparing it to my metabox laptop cause I'm seeing similar / slightly better wifi performance with this board

      • The WiFi device completely disappears intermittently. Tried various driver versions, sometimes drops out as well.

Sending it back as RMA as we speak, was fed up with it.

        • Oh okay that's not my experience at all, unlucky mate but I'd imagine in a similar situation I'd RMA and switch brand

    • Interesting that you have a negative experience with the wifi. That's one of the key selling points of this mobo: Intel wifi and bluetooth. It's considered to have the best stability and compatibility. Do keep us posted on your RMA though

      • After seeing his anecdote I can say that that's not my experience at all

I run a full Bluetooth peripheral set up (keyboard, mouse, speaker) and have no issues with that or wifi

      • Just chipping in to say my board is perfect. Wifi strong and stable.

    • I have this board too. My WiFi is ok but the Bluetooth is horrible. Can't seem to sustain a connection. Is your BT ok?

      • +1

My BT was workable but not great. Seems to drop a lot more often than I would expect.

    • +1

I have this board, and the wifi chip seems to be the same Intel 9260 i have in my laptop which has been superb (and was actually what i bought to fix my laptop's terrible wifi) and whilst i have only used wifi briefly on the desktop, i have used the Bluetooth extensively and they both seemed to be very solid. Maybe you got a bad chip?

      • I would assume so if so many people don't have any problems.

That being said Im cursed when it comes to hardware. Went through about 5 1080ti's until I got one that didn't have a leaky AIO in the box

      • Thanks for this feedback. I've reached out the seller for some assistance. Hopefully driver update or checking the board will suffice. I'd hate to send it back.

    • If it's not Intel WiFi then it's probably subpar yes.
An Intel WiFi add-in card would run $100+ on its own.

  • This board work with ryzen gen 3 cpus?

    • +1

So some are compatible out of the box like mine was but it's always best to check with the retailer to confirm if possible

When I was shopping around for this mobo that's what I did and PCCG and an eBay retailer I queried with were able to confirm

If it comes from gigabyte compatible out of the box the packaging will have a ryzen 3000 ready sticker on it

    • +1

Given the shortage of stock for the past couple of months, these would be fresh from the factory. I doubt they would still be rocking old versions of the BIOS.

  • +3

Great motherboard. Used 2 recently to build some new gaming systems for family with 3600. Fortunately the ones I got were already flashed for Gen 3.

    • Damn I can't believe I only learned about this today. Probably lucky app the b550 itx boards I've been looking for have been back order or out of stock

      • Yeah B550s are only trickling into supply now, almost 2 months later. I fear the same will occur with the GPUs slated for release later this year which will see even higher demand.

  • +1

Thanks OP, was weighing up between this and the MSI version

  • Damn. Looking for a mini-ITX board for a few months, come in late on the only deal in that time. Now $314… which is about $80 more than it usually retails for.

    • yep.. gone already

  • Good price. Held back on it because I'm waiting for the next gen™ but good on the people who got one and are building now
