Samsung PS64D550 64" Full HD 3D Plasma TV - $1996 @ JB Hi-Fi

280

Not the top of the line model with all the bells and whistles, but this is the first time I've seen a 64" screen for under $2k - might be of interest to some.

  • not bad, friend of mine paid around $2300 about 3 months ago for this tv, and that was a jbhifi family discount!

How did this comment warrant 6 negs?? On whirlpool people have reported buying this for 1890 including free delivery and an extra pair of 3d glasses and a 8 way surge protector board thrown in.

This man speaks the truth. I have the 59" version of this set and it sounds like there's a beehive behind my television :\

  • when the PS64D8000 version starts popping under $2000 i'll be happy :) i'll settle for $2500 though.

Now I just need a loungeroom big enough to put it in…

    • Just my thoughts exactly…
Walked in to JB got excited seeing a 64" TV for under 2k, then went "oh wait… I don't have space for this thing…."

      • Also something people should consider.
This thing has a sticker rating of IIRC 960kWh (that energy rating thing), and is REALLY REALLY warm to run, it can almost double up as a heater. Might be okay to run in autumn and winter but would be a pain in summer and if the current weather is to go by spring here in Sydney.

From discussion on Whirlpool some people have picked this up for ~$1800

  • :O

maybe it's time my current tv had a little 'accident'….

Say wat?!! 64inch for under 2k……my dream of "TV/digital wallpaper" is getting ever closer….

  • Saw this in the JB Hi-Fi brochure yesterday. Very good price for an ENORMOUS television. I don't quite understand the need for such a large TV - especially considering 42 inchers are such good value at the moment - but I'm sure buyers will be able to justify it somehow!

    • people might have a dedicated home theatre they want it in. When are we gonna have 75" TV's?

      • Panasonic actually sells lcds over 80inches in size. But you'll be looking at around $80,000 and they weigh atleast 100kgs

edit: 80cm is not that big!

        • Bang & Olufsen have a 103inch plasma panel too.

      • The 2012 Samsung and Sony LED retail ranges include 75" models…

At the moment those two brands only make 60" in the retail space for Australia.

        LG does a 65" LED already…

  • Nice though 50 ish was largest in market? Prob not many would buy a 60 since to big for there rooomsz? :D

when is all this going to end ? save us all the time and release a 100" for under $2k and stop milking us lolz.

good deal though, if i didnt already have a lowly 51" 3d tv

    • maybe I should buy it. I have a 37" Lcd non 3d.

  • Bought this exact same model, agree with the buzzing sound, thought it was quite loud. Was awesome for 3 weeks until one night while watching a movie the screen started to fade to black from one corner of the screen to the next. No picture and no audio.

The next day upon closer inspection we found an internal crack across the screen:

Samsung customer service has left much to be desired so far and have insisted that we have damaged the screen, even though the technician who came to inspect the TV and take pictures saw that there was no impact damage and that we had not physically damaged the screen. Said something along the lines of thermal expansion - the crack was behind the glass, on the actual plasma panel.

Now waiting for some manager from the warranty claims department to get back to me - don't know how this is going to pan out now :/

hope it all works out for you!

For those people who are short of space or believe TV are getting "too big", can't you just hang it on the wall?

    • +1

In this day and age, a good portion of people probably don't even have enough wall :)

    • "Too big" usually refers to not having adequate viewing distance, rather than being able to get it in their rooms.

      • That i agreed..

  • 64" isn't all that big. I've got a 100" projector screen and a 50" plasma in the living room. Bigger screen allows a more immersive experience in a movie. Isn't that why cinemas have big screens?

Just thinking… no flaming pls :D

    • Cinemas have a much bigger viewing distance. Ever sat at the front seat at the cinemas? Most people don't like it.

      • I agree, for a 100" screen, the viewing distance is perfect for viewing at 4-5 metres. I guess that's a pretty average distance at most living rooms. Unless it's an apartment.

  • So having inadequacy issues with my 58" now :(

  • Seriously looking at buying this tommorrow. Will see what haggling/bonuses I can get. I will be buying a 3D capable AV receiver as well, and possibly an Ipad2 in the same purchase. Has anyone seen any alternatives to this? other models/brands for similar/better value?

  • Hi guys,

Just both this one for JB in Osbourne Park, they have 10% off this weekend. The guy at first told me the 10% was from the original price. I told him on their website was advertise for $1,996 plus 10%. After back and forward with the manager they agreed for $1,797 plus I squeeze an extra 3D glasses.
The only catch is that they don't have any in stock, then I'll be getting my tv from the Bumbury store delivered next week. Fingers crossed.
