Coffee Beans - Can You Recommend A Victorian Roaster?

I'm looking at trying to support a local roaster.

Can anyone recommend anyone? I'm happy to pay a little more for a decent bean.

I was purchasing from coles/woolies, but in these times, I'd like to try and support a local.

My go-to this lockdown has been Inglewood and their Nicaragua. Highly recommend all their stuff though (and they do pretty good deals from time to time)

Rumble Coffee Roasters in Kensington are great - we buy their Shadow Boxer blend.
We have tried Market Lane, Five Senses, Manna Beans and The Beanery and Rumble are our favourite.

has anyone compared the beans at aldi and other roasters/producers like fivesenses/axil/industry beans etc. and can tell a difference? i can't - maybe its my brewing tekkers being off but $12 vs $50 is not yielding a better cup overall

Normally comes down to being freshly roasted is the common denominate that can't be found in supermarkets .
Some people will never understand that !

If you like it, and it’s cheaper, it really doesn’t matter what other people think.

I like their Lazzio Medium Dark as a mocha drinker - nutty/choc flavours. The other Aldi lines have the fruity or floral description. I also like Lavazza as a supermarket bean, though from memory would rate the Lazzio higher.

Tried various "fancier" (read costly) brands like Ona, and the recent Crave and AIRJO deals. AIRJO haven't had enough yet to really judge. Crave was "ok", I preferred Lazzio. I really liked Ona "Black Betty" but they are expensive - they aren't local VIC but just to give a comparison. In general, I have found many premium type brands NOT to my liking, because it seems part of requirement for that is to be as floral/mixed/fruity/unique as possible!

And then I see OzB deals where the roaster's special price still costs the same as Ona RRP :P. Lucky I'm not a coffee snob.

I like women like you like your coffee

    • But how would that look in a MS Paint picture?
I only know what dignity looks like.

Inglewood has been my favourite but I wait for a sale.

    Beanery from Coffee Snobs

    • Keep forgetting to try them

Always end up ordering from some deal or roaster that I've ordered from before.

      • They are more expensive without discounts, but are very consistent with their roasts.

I have been ordering from here - Very small microlot roaster in Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Tried most blends and loved all of them when making with an Aeropress. Owner is super friendly as well.

How much time do you have :)

For those notes (chocolatey/caramelly) - these blends work nicely and cut through milk for a nice flatty white/latte
    Fitzroy Street - Industry Beans
    The Humbler - Proud Mary
    Race Collab - Criteria Coffee
Lal Lal Falls Blend - Karon Farm
    Brunx Blend - Founder Coffee
The Axil Seasonal Blend usually hits those too.

My favourite is Georges in Brunswick.

Looks like they don't have the full range on the website but I usual go in person.

Inglewood Coffee Roasters. Roosevelt or Sunset Blvd were the ones we recently tried which were good. Look out for sales. There should still be a code available.

Give the Aldi beans a try! They are roasted in Melbourne I believe so you can support local and not be gouged on price.
I have just started using them. Started with their single origin Brazil and been real impressed for about $14.
Reviews seem to rate their normal Medium roast as one of their best, so I'll be giving that a try as soon as this bag runs out. And they are cheaper again.

I was never a fan of Harris coffee beans in supermarkets (tried their ground coffee a million years ago) but When I read they were donating $1mill in beans, lending coffee machines and grinders for free to cafes that are struggling I decided to buy a few bags of their Organic beans. Roasted in Australia, but I have opened them yet.

CoffeeSnobs. These guys are really great. I get my green beans there, but they roast lots too.
Lots of different beans from all around the world.
Really great forum also for coffee "snobs" to chat about coffee :)

    Ditto: Coffee Snobs.
I have been ordering roasted coffee from Andy for at least 11 years now.
I am in Vic now, but was previously in Qld, still got my coffee express post the next day after roasting and posting.
They roast fresh to your order every Wed, and Sunday, and express mail the next day. If you live in Geelong you can pick up.
For the taste you are after, I recommend the Columbian Volcan Galeras, as that is the one I buy.
Membership is free, and its also a great forum as well.
As I am the only coffee drinker in the house, I buy the 500gm pack, so that its always fresh.
