[PS4, XB1] Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2 - $54 + $1.99 Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi or $54/$55 Delivered @ Amazon AU

650

JB Hi-Fi have listed it for $54 which is the cheapest yet. The Amazon deal was $59 which was price matching Gamesmen and Mighty ape, Amazon then reduced it to $58 to price match Harvey Norman. Mighty Ape have since reduced it to $55 (+ Delivery) which Amazon matched, now JB is down to $54 (+ $1.95 Delivery), Amazon have matched it on the PS4 and I would expect XB1 price to be updated from $55 to $54 soon. If you already preordered on Amazon you don't need to do anything, as per their pre order guarantee, when it ships you only get charged the cheapest price it was listed as.

Amazon Link $55/$54 - Edit 14/8: Now $49 on Amazon

Amazon have free delivery, compared to JB $1.90, however some may prefer JB to use gift cards etc.

Release Date - 04/09/20

Edit 4/9: Release, no longer preorder.

Note: Amazon is since cheaper at $49 Delivered.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2020.

Great price. You do get the demo on Friday if you pre-order digitally, if that kind of thing interests people.

    • +1

Only issue I have with pre-ordering digitally is the fact you cop full price even if a local store sell it for cheaper on release day. I'll be price matching with EB as my local opens at 8am so I can grab my copy before work.

      • +4

Yep - Same point i was going to make. Only way to play the demo is to fork out what $89-$99? Whatever the digital cost of the game is through the official Microsoft and Playstation stores.

        • +2

It's $69 on the digital store I believe. So not outrageous.

          • @solidsnek: Thats quite decent compared to most new digital titles

          • @solidsnek: Tempting at that price…

            • +19

@JuryWheel: Back in my day, demos were free to everyone to give them a chance to see what a game is like before purchasing.

              • @Agarwal: Amen

              • +6

@Agarwal: Yeh, what’s the point of only releasing the demo to people that have already committed to buy?

              • +1

@Agarwal: Back in my day, I had to buy a monthly magazine for like $15 to get a demo disc.

Well I usually had the subscription that made it cheaper, like 10 or 12 a month, but still.

                • @TheDukeOfNukem: That’s also true, can remember playing buying a PS mag just to get the THPS2 demo.

    • Don't forget Xbox don't bill you instantly, unlike PlayStation… so you can preorder the game, get the demo, and cancel the preorder with no problems.

Edit: They DO bill you instantly if you pay with credit on your Microsoft account, so don't do that though, but bank card wise, you're fine. I should know, since I keep a card I cancelled over a year ago on my account solely to get the Gold 360 games.

I pre ordered on amazon at the start of June at $55 and i had a $20 voucher bringing it down to $35. Hoping this game is as addictive as it was back in the day

    • +1

I replayed THPS2 on my Dreamcast a couple months back, and I can vouch that it sucks the hours away now just as it did back in the day. I had a romanticised memory of the graphics though… it was pretty horrible to look at. In addressing that with the remasters, I can’t see how this can be anything other than brilliant.

      • +1

Yeah im expecting the same - Its always the case when you go back and play something from your youth and seeing how the graphics present today, not pretty. Playing this in 4K with modern graphics, similar game play, music etc is going to be brilliant.

  • Will we get this on next gen aswell if we buy it on current gen?

  • +5

I'm pretty keen on this as I was obsessed with these games back in the day, however I'd be waiting for some reviews to make sure they haven't messed them up.

    • +5

The same developers also made the Crash Bandicoot remastered trilogy so I based on that I'm going to grab it on release day!

      • I was never a Crash guy but I did hear there was some grumbling about the physics in the remaster, that said unless this is a complete dumpster fire I'm 99% in on this day one.

    • I guess you could download the pre-order demo when it's out then cancel if the demo sucks?

** Looks like the demo is only for digital purchased?

    • +1

Regardless of reviews, being locked in the house in Vic, this will be a well needed escape with all the nostalgia of grinding the hanger doors and hopefully the same soundtrack! - Just ordered mine, thanks OP

      • +1

I hear the sound track is majorly the same bar a few tracks they have had to leave out!

        • Correct, plus they have added a bunch of new tracks.

Fantastic price, do we know if there've been changes in the price for Marvel's Avengers which releases on the same day?

    2019: skate games are dead
    2020:
    Sessions
    Skater XL
    Skatebirds
    Tony Hawk
    Skate 4

    • +2

I'm really enjoying Skater XL, came a long way since beta. Great control system once you get comfortable and throw out skate 3 memory haha

      • Interesting, I was thinking of picking it up as the controls looked really unique, but I was/am a heavy skate 3 player, I take it there is a bit of adjustment?

        • +1

quite an adjustment, but then once you get used to them they just seem sooooo right
like full control over the angle of each foot for grinds makes them so much harder but way more fulfilling once pulled off.

It's not like an arcade skater though, there's no missions, just a batch of "follow the leader" style runs to practice and get you familiar with the controls.

          • @camshandez: Yeh sweet sounds pretty good then, that's what I thought that it's pretty technical trying to get each foot just right. Thanks for the reply!

            • +2

@easydys: I can also vouch for Skater XL being amazing once you get the controls down. Basically left stick controls front foot and right stick controls the back. So to kickflip you ollie (tradtional skate 3 style) but in order to kickflip you have to flick the left stick to the left at the right time. Its so awesome to nail a trick smoothly even if its simple. If youre a fan of games that are rewarding for the more effort you put in to refine your skills over play time then this is for you. Be patient. Its worth it.
And you know they are gonna keep updating it and its just going to get better. My opinion of course.

    • -1

Only skate 4 will be any good

  • +2

    So many memories!

    • werd… 14 years old, at an old person NYE party with my parents for NYE 1999 into 2000… me in the empty kids room playing this all night… good times

  • +2

Cautiously optimistic… but which platform to go for.. Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro… or do I hold out for the PC version (and whether it'll support ultrawide?)

    • PS4 for sure

      • +1

        Why's that?

        • +2

My guess is for the closest to an OG experience with the dual shock controller… but I'm a sucker for making the most of my Pro/X console and 4K TV.

          • @jace88: Oh I thought it might of been coming with extra stuff, the controller thing is a good point.

          • @jace88: Definitely Xbox One X, that boi will look crisp… has PC been announced? If so ill wait for that

            • @clanton: I thought it said somewhere that it’ll be an epic exclusive. Shrugs if it supports ultra wide I’ll go PC otherwise I think this feels like a definitively console game.

    • +1

The Xbox page for it has the XBOX ONE X ENHANCED logo.

      https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/games/tony-hawks-pro-skater

  • +1

They had better not ruin the music on this.

    • +1

Its only missing a few songs, I'm actually surprised by how many they got. The new songs sound pretty 90's too, so it works.

    • +4

Spotify have the official playlist up at the moment. It's about a 50/50 mix of originals and new tracks.
I think a lot of people will have an issue with the rap/trap tunes on the soundtrack (e.g Sketpa), but I think it's pretty tight.
Alex Lahey, DZ Deathrays and Baker Boy are all on there for some Aussie flavour.

      • When wipe out remake came out, people put up their own playlists with all the songs

I reckon you'll get that for thps

Love games you can play to music

        • +2

Playing the 360 port of Crazy Taxi (RIP KFC and Pizza Hut) is great via back compat because I can mute the new soundtrack (that honestly, I don't actually mind, but it's not the real soundtrack), and play the real songs through Spotify on the 'Bone. This is honestly my new go to example when people say they don't give a shit about what the console can do outside of games.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Different crazy taxi soundtrack?

            Dang

But it's cool you can have a solution now though

I love custom music and gaming

Gta 3 after pc patch 1or 2? you could play your own music, wanted that as feature in every sandbox style game going forward.

Only game where it's not needed is brutal legend of course

            • @iamhurtin: I have no idea why they got rid of the option to listen to your own music in games. I used to listen to my own music with Dreamcast car racing games all the time

              • @JuryWheel: How much did you pay a month to listen to your music haha :)

                • @iamhurtin: Gone over my head sorry….

                  • @JuryWheel: Oh you were saying you had no idea why they got rid of the option to listen to your own music or make it difficult in games.

I was alluding to the fact they can potentially make money by making Spotify or whatever the default or only way to do such a thing.

If the ps4 media player didn't suspend my online games when I wanted to chose a new album, no way I pay for Spotify

      • will have an issue with the rap/trap tunes on the soundtrack (e.g Sketpa)

Skepta gonna shut it all down?

  • +1

You should really try to avoid pre-ordering games until some reviews/previews have come up and everything looks ok. It's just fraught with issues, even with well known/liked developers as people stuff up development all the time.

    • +1

Generally i wouldn't ever pre-order anything. But even if they half butchered this game up im still going to be playing the shit out of it.

Plus being in Melbourne right now, literally anything will do right now.

  • Don't really buy games on release. Generally, is this the price after release as well or only for preorder and then it goes up?

    • I think this is the standard price for these remakes on release

I paid 55 for wipe out and 50 for crash and ctr

Probably get it for 40 at Christmas from some deal

  • Anyone seen any good deals on the Xbox digital version? Was gonna go physical but I only have an Xbox One SAD edition at the moment, sold my PS4 earlier today to a dude on Gummie where I was probably gonna buy the disc version to save 15. At least digital on the 'Bone will carry over to next gen when I get the S/X and then when I throw my old Xbone at the missus' place I'll have some THPS there too. (profanity) I love me some THPS. YEEEEAH.

    • Apparently $69 on the digital stores which is as good as you're gunna get. If you pre-order the digital you get access to the demo tomorrow i believe

      • Yeah, I was hoping there might be codes or something for cheaper :'(

I preordered on Xbone digital the other day with a dead card since they don't automatically charge you for preorders, so I could check out the demo. Keeeeeen.

    • Could you get discounted gift cards for eb /jb and then order the digital currency?

      I often do that.

      • Probs. Any active deals you know of at the moment then, buddy?

        • Just the ones through providers like suncorp HCF etc

If you're cool with sending internet strangers money, ask in the classifieds forums for someone with access to them if you don't yourself.

The margins and amount that can be claimed might be effected by covid, so it might not be as simple as before.

Not sure which it is, but one company was doing 8% off eb gift cards!

Would eat in to the PS5 /xboxssxsxs1080 price

          • +1

@iamhurtin: I don't mind, but I mean to save 15 idk if it's worth the hassle, I just thought someone might have a 10/20% off vouchers deal or something, never gonna know if I don't ask.

I'll have to keep my eye out for deals I guess, but given the jacked up demand for EVERYTHING at the moment, I don't see myself being too lucky. Maybe I should try to burn through the Game Pass quests and shit, might be able to knock a fiver off at least. Cheers.
