Xiaomi Body Composition Smart Scale 2 - $35 + Shipping @ Dick Smith by Kogan

180

Was looking at smart scales and realised that the Xiaomi Body Composition Smart Scale 2 at Dick Smith are $35 + delivery. The regular Kogan website has them for $45.00 + shipping, so the DickSmith site is cheaper. General price seems to be around $60 everywhere else.

Seem to be a decent set of scales on the basis that you take the other metrics with a grain of salt.

"From monitoring body weight and composition to creating custom training courses and evaluating your overall fitness, the Xiaomi Body Composition Smart Scale 2 comes with a series of complex algorithms and advanced Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to accurately monitor your health."

If you have amazon prime this can be had for $35 with free delivery. Have been using it for a couple of months now and find it consistent in measurements.

Also has a LCD so you don't need to have it connected to a phone all the time to see basic weight readings.

I was looking at these and ordered one, only to cancel the order because I found this.

I have a Mi Fit Band 5 coming so I thought it would be easier having the weight integrate straight with Mi Fit. Also, these have an LED screen as well, they for some reason don't show it on in the photo.

    • Wow its just come on with a discount

I did email the rep asking for it to go up again, lol. Ended up purchasing this one.

Literally bought this about 2 weeks ago and loving it. Only issue I have so far is sometimes it won't update a weigh in on the app instantly but will catch up next time you use it (generally).

    • How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

      • +1

My old scale broke so wanted one immediately and paid $49 delivered from Amazon.

  • Has anyone used this with amazfit/notify & fitness app?

    • I am buying this for that reason and from what I understand, it should work, but I am not 100% certain.

      • This (I think) is the one listed in the latest update (Mi scale 2 vs Xiaomi Composition Smart Scale 2):
        DSE

        Kogan (Cheaper)

        • Yes, I am assuming that at least the weight will go through. I can keep you once both arrive if needed? Just PM me in 2 weeks once both have arrived and been setup.

@appxl: Received scales then - can confirm that it works with Notify and Fitness (Xiaomi, but I imagine Amazfit would be the same).

It shows up and gives all the data as well - and I don't have Mi Fit installed on my phone, it goes in direct to the app.

            • @appxl: Awesome. Thanks for the update. Very handy to know.

    • It doesn't work. I have both apps on my phone.

So why get smart scales? Apart from weight they appear to be as good as someone taking a guess at stuff ie. hopeless.

    • +1

They are meant to be somewhat accurate as an indicator over time - so ignoring the actual statistic numbers and just using the overall graph, they are meant to help with an overall picture.

Moreso, I just want to give them a run and see how they go, I like wanky tech and if I don't like the metrics, I will just use the weight tracking.

  • Dick Smith have listed in the Overview:

"Measures in kilograms, pounds & catties"

Is it only me who has never heard of "catties" being used as a unit of measurement?

According to Wikipedia, it's "a traditional Chinese unit of mass used across East & Southeast Asia, notably for weighing food & other groceries in some wet markets, street markets, & shops"

I wonder how many catties I have gained since WFH?

    • +1

depends on how many cats did you eat?

  • Seem to be a decent set of scales on the basis that you take the other metrics with a grain of salt.

I've bought a cheaper smart scale before and yes, take the other metrics with a (big) grain of salt. They calculate based on the stats you input (gender, age, height) and your current weight against the generalised standard. So what it gives you is an approximation of what your levels should be. I've compared it against the Aria 2 and the one I had, AstiVita, said my body fat is around 23-24% because of my height/weight ratio. Aria 2 has me in at 17% and actually fluctuates even when I have the same weight (because I had some naughty food the other night).
