230

Double-sided anti-fog high-transmitting PET the film, anti-scratch, strong acid and alkali resistance.
This is the cheapest deal I ever found. Works out to be $3.80 each for a bulk purchase. Or about $7 each from retail shop.
This is a great item for making visor for cosplay helmet.

I see people wearing these while shopping, what does this even do for anyone?

    • +3

well it protect you from liquid flying to your face

    • -6

A whole lot of Jack s***

The idea is to prevent peoples sneeze droplets etc but nobody is getting close enough to do that, let alone cough then the whole shop runs out lol

Leave these for people who need them for work

      • +2

i do think store workers could benefit from these - rather a mask they put half on and touch half the time with their hands or gloves

    • +2

For fuller protection — a mask, gloves, and even eye protection, such as goggles — might help those taking care of a COVID-19 patient at home, Manche says. “If you’re caring for somebody, that’s a much higher risk because they’re shedding viral load. You lessen the chance of transmission.”

      • +1

At home, not out shopping, i use these at work not on the street because im not in peoples personal space on the street, mask is enough

Gloves are for use when you have a chance to come into contact with bodily fluids, just using them for the sake of it is redundant

  • PET the film

Pretty sure the aerosols don't travel in a straight line. The amount of gap between the shield and face renders it pretty useless in my opinion especially if you are not wearing a mask.

    • Yet you see front line health workers wearing face shields all the time,
I think I'd trust their evidence over your opinion.

      • Agree

      • +5

they tend to wear masks in conjunction to the shields. I always assumed the shields are to protect the eyes from aerosols

      • You need to get your eyes checked. The health workers wear a mask as well.

Also, I am talking from what I learnt in science. Obviously, you didn't

        • +1

Masks don't cover their eyes, hence the screens - which are primarily for close contact environments, not for protection against possible general aerosol infection.

          • @[Deactivated]: Exactly. Have to use both to be safe.

            • -1

@RSmith: But what protects the eyes from aerosol in that case? Masks for public use are mainly to limit droplets from (asymptomatic) infected people, not for protection from aerosol. Most masks won't filter tiny aerosol particles anyway.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Only thing I can think of is the swimming goggles. They are fairly good for protecting the eyes.

                • +1

@RSmith: There's little solid evidence to date that the public has anything to fear from aerosol infection in most circumstances.

                  • @[Deactivated]: I think there is, that's why the need to maintain distance and wear masks. Whether aerosols can transmit covid through eyes, I haven't seen any evidence of it.

I disagree. Edge isn't sharp enough. Stick with knives.

    Need one with RGB

  • -4

Work supplied some of these a week or so ago and while I was skeptical at first (mainly for looks) I prefer these as they allow you to breath MUCH easier (obviously🙄) especially when lumping multiple 80kg beasts! However they do get foggy and the foam padding will get dirty. Nice tight feel with minimal movement. If you prefer to have open breathing at the expense of minimal vision loss then yeh fore sure.

    • I'm tired. Read beasts as breasts and had no idea what you were talking about.

      Nice tight feel
      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • Pig carcasses if that helps 🙂

    • +13

you're supposed to use these with a mask

      • -5

There can only be 1 jv

        • +8

Seriously though they're for use with both not as an alternative

            • +6

@BL1TZKRE1G: No you need both, the shield stops splashes into your eyes, the mask stops you inhaling droplets. Both are equally important

              • @minimum-size: Yeh makes sense, just makes it super difficult for me if I was required to wear both, and yes I'm sure other professions are struggling and have to adjust and so on

                • +2

@BL1TZKRE1G: PPE sucks to wear, some tape across your nose mask bridge can help with fogging.

A good mask fit will protect you.
A poor mask fit will protect others.
                  Either way it's worth wearing.

The face shield then is a great splash barrier.

Having to wear PPE isn't fun, and the hassle to put it on and off whilst sterilising your hands repetitively is tiresome.

At the end of your working day you know you've been as sterile and clean as you can be and go about your normal live without worry, as best you can in a pandemic.

But seriously I appreciate your work, nothing is easy and under stressful times thanks for working on.

                  • @minimum-size: Thanks for the input and appreciation, we are all trying our best through this difficult time. I dont have any hassles with the repeated sterilization, mask on/off, being boring or anything like that, But mainly the struggle to breath when I have to jog with a carcass on my back, the mask sometimes moves around up in my eyes which then hinders my sight. Its hard to enough to breath with a mask while jogging just imagine doing that with 80kgs of extra weight 60-70- times a day with limited eyesight. For that reason the company brought these screen guards in and honestly its been amazing

                    • @BL1TZKRE1G: I don't fully understand what you're doing, but I'm imagining your outdoors with a pig strapped to your back and running through a field, and that sounds amazing!

6m is the real safe distance, and outdoors with a breeze you can relax a lot more.

If you're outdoors and 6m away from people the risk is extremely low, but the mask, even a cloth or surgical will protect when taking to someone nearby

If you want to look in to tape to go across the nose bridge I believe transipore is the brand that sticks well.

It's also important to not touch your mask once on, if your inhaling virus from your surroundings and people, then physically touching your mask, then touching your eyes, or mouth ENT your mask might has well been a virus catcher to collect to your finger tips.

                      • @minimum-size: I supply the carcass to your local butcher to break down, I don't see most of my customers as I'm usually in and out before they arrive.

                • @BL1TZKRE1G: If you're just going to use just one, a face mask will offer you more protection than a face shield. Face shield offers zero breathing protection by itself

Saw these at Bunnings today for $3 each (Stafford, Qld)

Can’t find a link to them on their online store so might be store specific.

    • Yeah same, local Bunnings had heaps

    • -4

Sadly in Vic bunnings are only open for tradies. It will cost couple hundreds dollars to call a plumber to fix something when the parts only cost $5 at Bunnings

    • +1

Bunnings is $3 as their normal price Australia wide.

  • Don't need so many, does anyone know where I can buy just 1 or 2 for a reasonably cheap price? Can't go check bunnings because of lockdown…

    • yes you can, I brought stuff "drive and collect" from bunnings during the week

You can now Drive & Collect at our warehouse during the week.

We’re adapting how we operate to make sure we keep everyone safe while they shop with Bunnings. When your order is ready to collect, we will organise a convenient time for a contactless pick-up. Simply drive to your local store and we will load your products into your car for you.

      • What if you do not have one within 5 km?

        • I have two within 5km, they are like subway stores, I thought everyone had one near by lol

Yeah that would make it difficult if you don't have one close :(

@Trantor: I checked Collingwood one. Out of stock there.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the extra effort gone into placing a moustache on that mannequin… given that it is a mannequin.
