AeroPress & Porlex Mini II Coffee Mill Grinder Combo $109 + Free Delivery @ Central Coast Coffee

570

What is the difference between V1 and V2 Porlex mini grinder?
Porlex have discontinued the original Coffee Mill.

The new model is simply called Coffee Grinder II.

As before it is available in Mini and Tall version.

So what has changed?

On the outside nothing, it looks the same.
Same stainless steel body, grinds cup, lid, and handle.

On the inside everything has changed.

The inside body material has changed.
It is now made from a much higher quality (colour is dark brown) material.
This makes for much better precision of the rotating shaft while also improving durability.

The inner burr , inner burr insert and spring has changed.

The outer burr has changed, completely redesigned with over 12 months of r&d invested.

The adjusting nut is also completely redesigned.
16 clicks per rotation (around 37 microns between clicks) with a new claw foot type design that allow for the grinder to be stood upright when the grinds cup is removed.

Overall the result is outstanding.
Improved action of the rotating handle, it is very smooth and force required is constant
Porlex are very conservatively claiming a 30% increase in the grinds output per rotation. Our tests have given us 50 to 70%
Improved particle size distribution.
Still 100% made in Japan
multiple patents pending

I've got the v1 porlex mini and it's a decent combo with the aeropress as a travel setup. Not really suitable for espresso, but it reviewed favourably compared to other low price handheld grinders.

  • That's actually a very good price. If I didn't have my trusty Breville smart grinder pro already I'd be all over that.

I have had V1 for a few years and use it at work most days + bush camping a few times each year. I enjoy the consistency in grind and how quick it works (compared to a number of more expensive ones that mates have).

About the only thing that really bugs me is that the handle slips off (fairly) easily when grinding. I would have updated if they had fixed this but there is nothing to indicate that it had been addressed.

This seems like a much better deal than the aldi one everyone is going nutso over for an aeropress

    • Agree this is a great price, especially if you don't have a grinder. Grind fresh on demand > pre-ground.

Not sure on the deal but wanted to give this place a plug as I was suprised to see them on ozbargain. Their coastal blend has been my go to for many years now. I’ve tried heaps of places especially with the covid coffee deals (sometimes it’s good to have a change) but always go back to their coastal blend. Have got a few others on the bandwagon too

  • Great deal ! Looking to buy a coffee grinder but don’t really need another aeropress

  • Thanks OP. Been looking for a cheap Aeropress. You have tempted me to buy a grinder better than I would have bought otherwise too.
It's nice to be supporting small business who take the time to bring great deals.

      +1 from fellow Coastie

  • Thanks OP. Have been looking for a grinder for a while and I don't have an Aeropress so this is the perfect deal.

  • Thanks OP! Have some beans from some eng work in Timor-Leste, perfect excuse to get this!

Did not expect this to make front page! thanks everyone. Just letting you know we have 7 left as of 9.30pm

  • Can vouch for CCC.

Dealt with Graeme years ago getting an aeropress and porlex tall and he threw in a sample bag of freshly roasted beans

would invest in some new ones but alas the porlex and aeropress is still going strong

Cheers OP! Just grabbed one and 400g of coastal blend to try out as recommended by impulse555 above.

  • Awesome, if I didn't just buy a timemore slim I would consider this!

  • Is it possible to use a cordless drill to grind? This would be for my caravan where I carry a drill already

    • nope

      • Is this "nope" just due to the flat handle attachment as opposed to the old hexagonal one? I plan on making a fitting to make mine work with a drill but wondering if there is another reason I shouldn't?

      Received mine!

Infact I received TWO! Which is super awesome because I was considering getting one for my partner. But unfortunately, despite this being everyone's dream to get extra free stuff I guess morals are a thing and my win is someone else's loss, so I've sent an email to you guys!!
      Thanks for the deal :)

  • Just received mine. Awesome service, fast too. Thanks OP.
