Register for Managed Payments to Receive $50 Invoice Credit @ eBay Australia

80

Just received an email with this.
My second eBay account isn't able to register for managed payments yet and hasn't received this email so i think this is targeted towards those who are able to register for managed payments on eBay.

    What are managed payments?

  • Where's the link to register?

    • No Link sorry,

We will email and notify you in My Messages on eBay when you can register to have eBay manage your payments. All sellers will progressively be activated on managed payments in 2020 and beyond.

This is what eBay shows till whenever they decide to let you register.

  • How do they ask you to verify identity

    • Licence .. I used proof of age card, no questions were asked

  • You’d need to have ABN, right?

    • Nope, i don't have an ABN.
At least i don't think so feel free to correct me.

        10/10 can confirm.

        You don't have an ABN.

  • Has anybody done the analysis if this is better or worse for sellers?

I have been selling heaps lately due to lockdown and having time on hand however not sure if its beneficial or not

    • Here is the fees for no store.

Here is the fees for stores.

Just did it for an item i am selling for $16.99 each free delivery
The following is profit after fees delivery cost and item cost.
      No ebay store yet
      No managed payments - $7.16635
      Managed payments - $7.18334
So 1.6 CENTS better off lol

      • so would I be better of getting Ebay store?

        • Depends if you sell enough.

          • @Axelstrife: What’s the approx number i should be hitting for it to be worth it?

            • @eckers19: Enough to cover the Store monthly fees,
So work out if the difference between no store and store seller fees is enough the cover the store cost.

              • @Axelstrife: How much are the store fees
                Is there a link
And is it worth it if I sell on off

So this is like a legal version of extortion then?

No doubt eBay must have crunched the numbers and in most cases, managed payments will be slightly better than using paypal.

        eBay plus PayPal:
        - 10.9% FVF (inc GST)
        - 2.6% + 30c PayPal fee (inc GST)

        TOTAL: 13.5% + 30c

        eBay Managed Payments:
        - 13.4% + 30c

        —-> So slightly better

As a seller, I think the big question is, which service offers better protection and less susceptible to buyer scams.

PayPal, as we all know allows the buyer to easily file a SNAD dispute and send back the item in 180 days!!!

        • don't forget that theres 10% GST at the end of each month you have to pay.

unless you're registered an ABN for a company, you'll pay close to 23.5% of the final value of anything you sell

          • @timmy_tam: The GST is on the fee, not the final value selling price. So it’s nowhere near 23%

        • Well, eBay says Seller Protection still applies, so the advantage is that PayPal is no longer involved (for the seller). For the buyer, PayPal buyer protection no longer applies so there's no real advantage to paying through eBay vs buying direct from the seller.

@[Deactivated]: Pfft. Ebay always sides with buyers. So this is worse for sellers.

Ebay will lie to your face and say it's case by case, but that's bullshit.

            • @justtoreply: That's right.
Scammers routinely play the system and eBay always sides with them as 'buyers'.
eBay has been broken for many years

            • @justtoreply: Ebay refunds buyers when they can clearly see the package is being investigated by the courier and not even really late in covid territory.

              • @dmbminaret: Huh? Investigated by courier? Happens never.
Scammed by lying ebay dipshit? Rare, but common enough.

          • @[Deactivated]: Isn't eBay's protection only 3 months, where PayPal has 6 months or more?

  • Sad we didn't get the email.

I've been wanting to sign us up for this for ages, even contacted ebay about it they said I just have to wait

  • I like managed payments for the following reasons.

Ebay disputes are better than paypal, although they do still pass chargebacks onto the seller which is unfortunate, but at least when you do a dispute with eBay you feel like someone might read it and read any eBay messages with potential extortion unlike paypal who will just auto side with buyer.

No more listing fees, now I can list more than 40 things without having to worry about them autorenewing after 30 days and being charged 1.65 for each item.

Fees are taken right away rather than being billed at the end of the month, while technically this is a disadvantage, I would rather know the money in my bank is mine and a fee bill isn't due.
Auto cash out into my savings account every week.

    • PayPal will only auto side with the buyer if you do not contact them. You get an email giving you a timeframe to provide evidence. I agree it's chancy anyway, just less so.

Ebay will auto side with the buyer even if you do contact them. I've even tracked through previous purchases of one buyer and messaged the other sellers they bought from. From the responses I confirmed they had scammed others with a stolen credit card. Ebay sided with them anyway.

PayPal doesn't usual get involved in the dispute, they just scam using eBay's staff.

As a seller if you don't elevate your request to a manager you're pretty much guaranteed to lose. Even then you need a very good argument.

What should be happening is it comes out of eBay's profits if questionable, not your pocket. Then maybe they'd give a crap and start taking fraud seriously.

I only list when fee free and $1FVF for less than 40 listings and don't hit the retarded auto charges from ebay. Keep in mind this is their fault and they're essentially charging you money to fix a problem they created.

The rest of your points are fair.

      • I've had ebay refund the buyer out of their own pocket a couple of times during the initial lockdowns when the mail system wasn't coping and some packages were being delayed for months leading to a few not received cases.

I used to list only during the promotions also, but it's been like a year since the last no final value and the $1 weekends don't seem to be coming back, the last few ones were list as many new listings as you like, but if you want to sell a lot of the same product, you need to have a lot of sales on a single listing for the ebay algorithm to preference you.

  • Money is stuck with eBay while it's procesing. Takes 3-4 days to reflect in your account.

  • Does anyone know when you get the $50 credit..

Signed up, waiting to be swapped over..

No sign of credit in current invoice..

Maybe it only is applied when you have actually been cut over..?
