  • No deal. Wouldn't touch a display phone with an AMOLED screen with a 10ft pole. Going to be so much burn in, or at least will burn in pretty quickly if it hasn't already from degradation.

    • +5

      and you've experienced this?

      I've had my s8 plus for 3 years… no burn in whatsoever…
currently on note 10 plus for the past year and i have yet to experience burn in on this screen.

You would be doing different things on the phone. Not have the same couple of things cycling on the display 24/7 most likely for probably a year

problem is majority of all premium phones carries AMOLED display.

I would argue demo phone might ghave less noticible sceren burn-in vs a normal use phone, all demos always have a screen saver/video loop, presumably cos a demo device exhibiting screen burn in will put off buyers.

From my exprience, my s9 has severe burn in, showing the notification/clock bar and the home button/nav bar, but i've seen presumably older demo devices look pristine and have never seen a demo device with burn in (maybe they cycle them every few months?)

It probably comes down to the retailer demoing the device? Presumably a 1st party Samsung store demo unit would be good but a harvy norman device might not be rotated/setup correctly

      • And here I am with my Note 8 and you can see the burn in from the triple dot settings buttons from my Reddit app

I purchased this phone last year and then switched to an S20 Ultra earlier this year. I've returned the S20 Ultra and went back to the S10 5G. IMO it's better then the S20 series besides the refresh rate. S10 5G has a better shape plus it has a headphone jack. Awesome screen and a massive battery (although it dwindles pretty fast on max settings)

    • Surely the S20 camera is better?

So where in Kogan's onlline store did they 'demo' these?

    • +1

They are getting the supply from Brus Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 82150976471) which has a business name as Digital store.

    • Likely they are stock used in local stores, that are returned to the manufacture, bundled up, and sold off to 3rd parties.

  • Only 6 m local warranty….

  • Manufacturer warranty?

    • Both seem to only offer an aftermarket local warranty

  • Sold by Eclipse BT Technology

Which is also BecexTech Australia (ABN 79349168813)

I have seen a lot of listings for "ex-demo" phones.

What ex-demo conveys to me: It is a display phone in a shop like JBHifi that customers look at. The phone is not really used.

Is this what an ex-demo phone is - or is it a phone that a customer has traded in?

There seems to be a lot of ex-demo phones around. What are they really selling?

    • My money is on refurbs and trade ins, where do you think all those leased phones go…

  • if the demo phone was shown for a year at a branch, should I expect big/small impact on a battery life as compared to a brand new 2020 model? Small scratches dont concern me that much.

  • Kogan is killing it with the marketplace. Should have gotten shares.

  • Does anyone know if it's dual sim or not!? The description says single or dual. Also is it true it weighs 198g.

Also does local warranty cover burn ins?

    • My S10 5g from Telstra is single sim. I'm pretty sure some international models have dual sim

  • +1

Two horrible companies that would be a pain to deal with warranty wise on a demo phone.
