  • Great watch at great price.

I mean sure the new Snapdragon is coming out but if you need a watch now it's a great deal.

Holding our for that pixel watch. Only been waiting 3 years. Must be just around the corner.

    • I'm with ya, but couldn't wait and went ahead and bought Gen 5 last year (for $399), and it's been awesome.
Last rumour blog I read is that there's a tiny slim chance of Pixel Watch being revealed in Oct but highly probable in 2021… Take it with a grain of salt I'd say.

      • Yeh seeing as Google have actually purchased Fitbit. One would think they'll eventually get a watch to market. But hey, no one really understands Google's hardware departments.

        • The possible problem is Google/Alphabet waiting for the FitBit acquisition to pass through all jurisdictions. Latest was EU was holding it up.

Of course it could also just be that they don't care. They seem to have taken their eye off Wear OS, and when they're not interested, nothing seems to move.

    • There has been some movement lately, apparently Google did just place an order with Samsung for a large quantity of body movement tracking chips. Which likely indicates they are destined for a watch like device.

  • Very bad reviews on their website

I own one and it's a great watch. You do need to know what you're in for regarding WearOS though.

    • Is maybe that common for SmartWatches though? I think a lot of people expect it to be as easy to use as … well, a watch. Apple users seem to be happy, but I'm not sure if that's because its good, or because they are just happy they are wearing what other people are wearing.

  • How much of an improvement is this over the Gen 4 Explorer which was on sale for $130 in May?

Gen 4 was riddled with hardware issues and low battery life, can anyone attest to how Gen 5 performs?

FYI my Gen 4 (which I got for $150) is fine, not slow nor has battery issues.
Maybe just check what you're expecting and see if this lives up to it.

Why did I go with a Fossil watch?
Still the best looking smart watches in my opinion and do not regret my purchase whatsoever. Constantly get questions on my watch when I wear it and they usually say "Wow, $150? Where can I get one?"

      • Same here. I got mine for $130 from that deal and haven't had any issues with it. The battery actually lasts longer than the specs say it should.

        For a <$150 smartwatch it's brilliant.

    • My Gen 4 has been pretty buggy but usable - but on monday it died - screen went static and then doesnt show anything anymore - still vibrated with a notification though.

    • Had Gen 4 for 2 months before it broke (Charger ring peeling off and not charging any the watch any longer). Fossil can't replace with the same Gen 4 stainless steel model which I love. I didn't like the Gen 5 model as it has smaller screen but I had to choose so I picked Gen 5 stainless steel.

Before anyone ask, yes Gen 5 screen is a tad smaller than Gen 4 hence I wasn't happy however Gen 5 is more bulky.

Battery life?? They are both bad. The only thing why Gen 5 do better because it uses the ambient always on mode. If you switch that off then the battery life is the same as Gen 4 and sometime worse (using the same watchfaces as testing). That does not reflect any advantage of the newer Snapdragon chipset.

This will be the last time I buy WearOS watch cause they frustrate me a lot. The only reason I bought Fossil is their nice design, the best smartwatch design out there. I rather have Amazefit in Fossil case.

I do have Samsung Watch too if you must know how I compare the usage.

      Hope that helps.

  • Have had both gen 4 and 5 smartwatches die several times. Once because battery ring fell off, the other 2 or 3 times because it would just keep crashing and not turn on until battery fully drained, which takes a couple of days once the screen is off. Battling to get a refund since I'm done with multiple failures.

  • Thanks, bought the Julianna in rose gold. Perfect timing with a birthday coming up.

  • Will the 5.6% ShopBack work?

Generally if you use a code it negates any cashback.

This vs Galaxy Watch 3, besides the ~$140 price difference?

    • They look very very different.
Galaxy watch also has better hardware.

Love my Gen 5 Carlyle + Marine Commander face. Definitely recommend this watch.

  • Thanks OP for discount code, went for a Collider HR instead. :)
